Brothers of the MonthAlpha Chapter – University of Michigan, MI

There are four people Alpha would like to celebrate asBrothers of the Month in December. Rona Jin, Mabel Wong &Victor Nguyen all helped to plan initiation. They workedclosely with our WIG & WAM to plan out the schedule andgather the supplies needed for the night. All their hard workpaid off tremendously as initiation was a huge success. Alpha’sother Brother of the Month is Riad Dabaja. Before initiation,Brothers gathered to eat dinner and go over the logistics ofthe night. We usually get pizza at meetings, but Riad boughtMediterranean food for everyone from a great restaurant inDearborn. All the Brothers of Alpha appreciated histhoughtfulness and absolutely loved the food!

Alpha Phi Chapter - Butler University, IN

Alpha Phi’s brother of the month is Christina Thomas! Christina served as the Worthy Master at Arms over the past year. Christina worked continuously through the Spring to develop new programming and plan out the semester for our candidates in the Fall. Throughout the Fall, Christina served as a leader, mentor, and friend for the candidates. Her efforts culminated in the initiation of 21 new members this December. Christina joined Phi Delta Chi as a Freshman (PP1) and has been involved on school visits, membership, and social committees. She loves the bond that brothers of Phi Delta Chi have with one another, and she has instilled in the new members the same passion that she has for Phi Delta Chi. Great work, Christina!

Brothers of the MonthBeta Gamma Chapter – Duquesne University, PA

Josh McAuley is our Beta Gamma Chapter nominated Brother of the Month of the month! He is a fifth year pharmacy student. When asking Josh about his impression on being a brother of PDC, he replied “Joining PDC has been a great way to make life long friends and connections while learning more about the profession of Pharmacy. PDC has also given me insight into future career paths in which I may pursue.” Josh is currently doing extensive medicinal chemistry research focused on the structural variations of psychiatric medications in effort to find possible analogs that have more favorable drug-receptor profiles. In addition to his research, he is also very active volunteer in the many service projects that have come his way. Thank you Josh for all that you do!

Gamma Pi Chapter – D’Youville University, NY

This December our brother of the month vote landed in a tie between our two athletic co-chairs; Brian Buttaggi and Peter Cao. These two brothers have worked extremely hard for our fraternity this past month. As co-chairs, they design athletic events for our members to partake in such as flag football games, and winter ice skating at the Harbor Center. Before the end of classes for the semester we had our final recruitment event for potential brothers. For our chapter, this always includes a huge thanksgiving potluck dinner put on by our members where we all wear ugly Christmas sweaters. Each year we try to design games for the potential candidates to keep the evening fun. This year our two brothers of the month went above and beyond to design entertaining games for all of us to enjoy. It was a huge success, and I could tell the potential candidates enjoyed themselves. Peter and Brian went so far as to dress up as thanksgiving turkeys and hide throughout the school to be “hunted” by groups of potential brothers. We are extremely thankful for all that these two do for our chapter, and cannot wait to see what they come up with next year!

Gamma Zeta Chapter - St. John Fisher University

The Brother of the Month for the month of December was our WMA, Jessica Colmerauer. Jessica as our WMA oversaw initiation, just as with any other chapter. What made Jess stand out was just how much effort and dedication she put into initiation. With the new national standards, it wasn’t the easiest to get every brother up to speed on what was required. Jess held a training the morning of initiation and got everyone informed on how the day would go. She also took it upon herself to make sure there would be plenty of food for the event, for both brothers and the candidates. This was also one of the first years we did not have an unofficial pledge house. She made sure to find a house to hold the initiation and got some alumni to come as well. Everyone was impressed with just how much she did to make the weekend successful. One of the best things she did in the weekend was delegate, she assigned people to roles to make sure everything was taken care of. Jess made the weekend a memorable one for our newly initiated brothers.

Together for the HolidaysAlpha Phi Chapter - Butler University, IN

The Alpha Phi chapter held its annual Day of Service on Saturday, December 2. Members were spread out and volunteered at three different sites in Indianapolis: Indiana Historical Society, the Hot Cider Hustle 5K, and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. At the Indiana Historical Society, our members helped the organization set up for an author fair by organizing books and aesthetically preparing the space for the fair. At the Hot Cider Hustle 5K, our members helped by directing participants on the course, distributing water, or helping with registration. At Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, our members planted trees throughout Indianapolis as part of the Ugly Sweater Tree Planting event. Each of our chapter members in attendance provided 3 hours of service to their assigned site. 83 members attended this event, which is over 90% of our chapter. This is equivalent to 249 hours of service.

Gamma Zeta Chapter - St. John Fisher University

On Sunday, 12/17, four carloads of Gamma Zeta brothers packed up the grills and made the trip to the Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins game in Orchard Park, New York. This was our “end of the semester” event that was a great time for all and was an opportunity to bond with brothers from other chapters. We invited the Beta Tau’s from Buffalo and we all tailgated, cooking hotdogs and hamburgers, and played touch football in the snow! It was a fun day that ended with a Bills victory and chicken wings at the local bar. As I told all of the brothers in Gamma Zeta, this was the type of event where I really could see what brotherhood means, and why I joined this fraternity. We were able to get fat and full with all of the food everyone brought and we sat together at the game. I hope this becomes an annual event for our chapter as well as the Beta Tau’s, and hopefully next year we can convince the crew from D’youville to come as well. It was quite the way to end the semester.

Gamma Phi celebrating Fratmas at the last meeting of the year

Katie Hettinger, a current P2, said "I have always loved Day of Service. I think it is a great way to come together as a brotherhood and do something for the community we have become a part of. As someone who has had the pleasure of planning the event in the past, and has attended the event for a few years now, we really get to make a difference and our incoming new members get to see how important service is to us."
