“HAPPY HERITAGE DAY”

I n a country with 11 official languages, one may be obliged to ask whose heritage South Africa is

being called to celebrate, as 24th September annually, South Africa marks this day as the day to come together as a nation in celebration of our heritage. In a South African context our heritage marks all the treasures that is found in our very complex diverse cultures.

This can be in form of habits, customs, signs and symbols which are either known or practiced. While South Africans heritage defines who we are and how we do things, King Cetshwayo District choose to embrace diversity, recognizing the rich natural resources and our potential as people. Heritage day was celebrated on 28th of September 2018 where all employees were encouraged to show up at work dressed in different cultural attires. The heritage celebration was not only for individuals to embrace their own cultures, traditions and history but it also

served as an opportunity to show case and teach to others about your cultures, traditions and history. As King Cetshwayo came together to celebrate each other’s differences by having different components within the district perform different activities show casing dances, music, poetry and plays. The day was full of fun, laugher and great lessons to take home.

With great performances that took place, there were prizes based on performance, EMS went away with the first prize as the best performers as their dance and singing skills were the best. The second prize went to GOSS team who showcased Umbondo and then the Human Resource team received 3rd place for the incredible poetry performance.

After so much energy that was fueled out certificates of appreciation were handed out and a culturally buffet lunch was served.
