Pat Angove is a very easy

going, unassuming person and

is always ready to help.

She was born in Minneapolis, the oldest of three

girls. Growing up, her fondest memory was vacationing

at a fishing camp on Basswood Lake, near the

Canadian border. Many times they would catch their

own lunch from the lake and their fishing guide would

then clean and cook it right on the shore. In the

evening the resort would put on a fabulous dinner

spread for everyone to eat.

Pat received her Elementary Education Degree from

the University of Minnesota. She taught school in

Minnesota for three years before moving to Poway, a

town east of San Diego. Taking a break from teaching,

she spent the next 15 years raising her two children,

Mike and Stephanie.

Pat and the family followed her husband’s job to

Spokane, Washington, where she continued to live for

the next 45 years. She feels it was a great place to

raise a family. She loved the array of outdoor

recreational opportunities offered all year long.

One of Pat’s most fulfilling jobs was working with

visually impaired students. She described herself as a

“braille-ist”. This work was very close to her heart and

she loved giving all of herself to her students. She

remains friends with one of her students, recently

meeting her new husband.

Pat knows the most important event in her life, at age

39, was accepting Jesus Christ as her personal

savior. This experience has changed her life. It

remains a transforming process as she continues

learning how to trust and live every day in His

presence.

In Spokane, Pat started her own “Retirement Home” as

she and 3 other ladies designed and built a home

together. The plan was to extend years of their lives

together. This worked for many years, until it became

time to take new pathways. The house was sold and

Pat moved to Courtyard near her daughter, Stephanie

and family.

Health Matters:

Add the Sweet Spice of Humor to your Life “You don’t stop laughing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop laughing.”

-Michael Pritchard, Comedian and Counselor

In countless moments of your life, you’ve enjoyed a belly laugh along with a wide smile followed by a big happy sigh. In addition to the gifts laughter brought to that moment, you were also improving your health. Why? Extensive new studies are revealing more links to laughter as a nourishing addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Researchers from Loma Linda University examined cortisol, a stress hormone that influences memory and learning in older adults. Post study group tests revealed improvement in memory scores and lower cortisol levels with the group that viewed a funny video.

It’s not an illness, but it’s very contagious

Laughter helps us see our own humanness and bonds us. The immune system functions better. Other benefits include:

-Body relaxation, stress level and pain perception reduction

-Reduction in blood pressure

-Enhancement of memory and creativity

-Increase in blood flow and the release of endorphins and dopamine in the brain.

Am I funny?

“Before I go out, I put a slice of bologna in each of my shoes. So when I'm on stage, I feel funny.”

-Steve Martin, Comedian

Though some may have more of a gift of making people laugh than others, that fact should bear no limitations for you. One of the greatest gifts of a humorous perspective is that it helps you to not take yourself, others or circumstances so seriously. So often we are impressed by people who suffer from severe limitations and yet still have the ability to laugh frequently. If being human is a great privilege, then a laughing human is truly blessed.

“There is a silver lining to being a cancer survivor. People say to me, ‘Are you freaked out about turning 50?’ Hell, no. I’m thrilled to be turning 50.”

-Fran Drescher, Comedian and Actress

Here are some more tummy tickling tips:

-Make sure your humor is appropriate. Instead of encouraging harmful sarcasm, seek out “clean” jokes that poke fun at situations. Share jokes that heal and support laughter and mirth.

-Schedule humor into your daily life. Seek out the comics in the paper, subscribe to a joke of the day email, or schedule a funny TV show or movie.

-Laugh with your belly. It will exercise your breathing system and massage your organs.

-If you find a good joke –share it!

A young woman wrote a letter to the tech

support to find her answers about love and

relationships. She sent the letter as a joke and

only remembered about it when she suddenly

received an email notification with a response.

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to

Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown

in overall system performance, particularly in

the flower and jewelry applications, which

operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many

other valuable programs, such as:

Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and

then installed undesirable programs such

as: NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House

cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging

5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed, Desperate

(please see response below…)

Resident

Snapshot

If you have something to

contribute to this section, please

see Michele.

Dear Desperate,

"First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an

Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an

operating system. Please enter command: I

thought you loved me.html and try to download

Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0

update. If that application works as designed,

Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the

applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above

application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to

Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.

Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program

that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT, under any

circumstances, install Mother-In-Law 1.0

(it runs a virus in the background that will

eventually seize control of all your system

resources.)

In addition, please, do not attempt to

re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program.

These are unsupported applications and will

crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great

program, but it does have limited memory

and cannot learn new applications quickly.

You might consider buying additional

software to improve memory and

performance. We recommend: Cooking 3.0

and Hot Lingerie 7.7. Good Luck!

SPRING BIRDS

Chickadees swoop into my garden

From surrounding trees,

Scratching the moist earth

Finding insects to eat.

Little black heads bobbing,

Pecking, searching—

Bouncing feathery bundles

Inspecting the lettuce.

I, too, welcome the spring—

The chance to find

For my life

A fresh direction.
