the Man and his Mission

Swami Chinmayananda was born Balakrishna Menon in the aristocratic Poothampalli family

inErnakulam.As a young boy, Balakrishna had sworn off religion. To him, it was nothing but a bundleof

religious superstitions practiced mechanically by the elders in his family.A good student, who could grasp

his lessons effortlessly, Balakrishna breezed through school, where English was the medium of instruction

and Malayalam the second language. In fifth grade, he switched to Sanskrit, studying it forthe nextfive

years.

He spent his after-school hours playing football and badminton. He excelled in swimming. Even as his

reputation for intelligence grew, he was also becoming notorious for being a fun-loving prankster.

Balakrishna enrolled at Lucknow University, from where he graduated with a master's degree in English

literature, as well as a preliminary Law degree. While

he was pursuing a full degree in law, the freedom movement grew intense, with leaders going in and out of

jail and frequent student protests. Balakrishna left the university to do his share in the freedom struggle,

going under cover whenever he got word that he was on the British rulers'wanted list.

In 1947, Balakrishna left for Rishikesh to write an expose forthe National Herald, which at the time was one

of India's leading newspapers, on the 'sham'practiced by the swamis in the Himalayan regions. Balakrishna

never got to do that. Instead of gathering incriminating evidence on the holy men as he had set out to do,

the self- styled agnostic unwittingly let himself be taken in hand by Swami Sivananda, whose Godliness

and love overwhelmed him and stirred up dormant spiritual feelings deepwithin him.

On February 25, 1949, along with five other students, Balakrishna was initiated into 'sannyasa'. Swami

Sivanandagave him the name 'Chinmayananda Saraswati '. A Sanskrit word, Chinmayananda translates to

English as “filled with the bliss of pure consciousness". Seven years later, brimming with Vedantic

knowledge, and his heart overflowing with love for his countrymen, Swami Chinmayananda was ready to

execute what he called 'the Gangotri Plan', a spiritual initiative tospreadthe message ofVedantatothe

masses.

In the 42 years of his service to humanity, Gurudev left his footprints in a variety of projects he initiated

which his disciples continue to build on under the banner of the Chinmaya Mission.

His vast spiritual legacy includes about a dozen Sandeepany Institutes worldwide, 72 Chinmaya

Vidyalayas, 6 colleges, an international residential school for children of non-resident Indians, over 30

temples in India and abroad, numerous Bala Vihars for the younger children and Yuva Kendras for

teenagers,a hospital, primary health care facilities, vocational training centers, an orphanage, and senior

citizens homes.

Chinmaya College bows to his supreme intellect and upholds his teachings as our guiding light into the

world of knowledge, wisdom and happiness.

Chinmaya College was founded in 1995 in keeping with the ideals of the great visionary and sage Swami

Chinmayananda. Janaki N. Menon, one of Swami Chinmayananda's earliest disciples, is the founder of

Chinmaya College. Kamakshi Balakrishna, a renowned educationist is the founder director of the college.

She also contributed in a big way to the organic growth of the college.

Chinmaya College is under the auspices of Chinmaya Mission, the nucleus of a spiritual renaissance

movement that now encompasses a wide range of spiritual, educational and charitable activities,

enriching the lives of thousands in India and across the world. Presently headed by His Holiness Pujya

Swami Swaroopanandaji, the Mission is governed by the Central Chinmaya Mission Trust (CCMT) in

Mumbai, India. Under Swami Swaroopanandaji 's guidance, the Mission now has 300 centers in different

parts of the world and continues to expand.

Chinmaya College is managed by Chinmaya Educational and Cultural Trust (Greater Cochin). CMECT (GC)

also manages other Chinmaya Vidyalayas in Greater Cochin as well as in Alappuzha and Kottayam.

The beautiful, serene Chinmaya College campus in Tripunithura, is separated by only a few kilometers

from the vibrant city of Ernakulam.The college comprises of knowledge-rich, wise, compassionate

individuals capable of making themselves as well as others happy, who belong to the revered seat of

learning, culture and metaphysical exploration. The college aims to provide world-class education in

Kerala, to offer the most promising courses in diverse disciplines to create a community of well-evolved

Choose the course that best suits your interest and goal

Chinmaya College currently offers bachelor degree courses in five highly preferred disciplines: Business

Management, Computer Application, Commerce, Economics and Communicative English. The courses

are designed to provide students with a proper grounding in the respective fields preparing them for

postgraduate studies and a rewarding career in India or abroad. From 2013 we are offering the M.Com

course too.

B.Com Model I Finance & Taxation

Eligibility: Pass in plus two or equivalent examination recognized by the university with 45% of the

aggregatein part III optional subjects.

The course is designed to equip students with managerial skills, while building competence in different

areas of business. Students are exposed to Accountancy, Financial Management, Income Tax, GST,

Entrepreneurship Development, Business Law and Corporate Law etc.

Three students secured A+, 21 secured A and 39 secured B in 2015-18 batch.

No: of students placed in 2018-2019: 40 students got placed in companies like IDBI, Sutherland, SB Global

etc.

BBM

Eligibility: Not less than 50% mark for qualifying exam.

The BBM degree aims to nurture the skills necessary to perform leadership roles in the business and

corporate world. The programme allows students to specialize in specific academic areas including

management methodology, organisational behaviour, EDP, HRM, Marketing, Accounts and Law, Business

Maths and statistics etc.

*In accordance with the latest syllabus from MG University, all the students will be given Tally 9.0.

Eligibility: Pass in the Plus two / Equivalent examination in science stream with Mathematics or

Computer Science as optional.

It is a technical degree that prepares students for careers in the field of computer applications and software

development. Students gain expertise in fields like Cloud computing, data mining, android applications

etc.

BA Programme in English Literature and Communication Studies (Double main)

Eligibility: Pass in plus two or equivalent examination recognized by the university with 45%

aggregate in PART III optional subjects.

The programme gives equal thrust on two diverse disciplines; English Literature and Communication

Studies. The course offers a comprehensive coverage of History of Literature, Methodology, Poetry,

Fiction and Drama. Students are also given hands-on training in core aspects of Media Studies such as

Journalism, Public Relations, TV/Radio and Cinema.

Eligibility: Pass in plus two or equivalent examination recognized by the university with 45% aggregate in

PART III optional subjects.

The programme aims to provide analytical and technical skills to meet the requirements of a competitive

job market. It gives an insight into areas like Micro and Macro Economics, Development and Environment

Economics. The programme stresses upon the detailed aspects of foreign trade, exporting procedures,

documentations and financing on foreign trade etc.It also offers a course in computer applications.

M. Com

Eligibility : B.Com/BBA/BBM under Part-Ill Core Group (Core + Complementary + Open Courses) with

not less than CGPA of 1.8 out of 4.B.Com/BBA/BBM under Part III (Main/Core + subsidiaries /

complementary with not less than 45% marks.

The course is designed to train students in specialized areas of business thus making them competent to

face the job market. Students are exposed to Accountancy, Financial Management, Income Tax, HRM,

Security Analysis & Portfolio Management.

Course in New Media

Tally GST is a 50 hour course offered by the Department of Commerce and the Department of

Management. Tally GST course is provided by Tally Academy - LCC - a Tally authorised training center.Over

the years, the success of Tally software has fuelled the demand for Tally trained and certified professionals

across the nation. The latest Goods & Services Tax (GST) compliant version of Tally ERP 9 is meticulously

designed to address the industry requirements.

The department of Communicative English offers a 40 hour Business English Certification (BEC) course by

the Cambridge English Language Assessment, a part of the University of Cambridge. The course is

specifically designed to give the students work-focused English language skills needed to communicate in

an international business environment.

The Department of Computer Applications has proposed to start a short term course in Web Designing and

MS Office from this yearonwards. Through the course, the students are expected to acquire different skills

in disciplines related to the production and maintenance of websites. The course also offers a

comprehensive study of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Access.

The Department of Commerce is planning to offer a 10 hour course on GST from this academic year. The

course will provide an in-depth understanding of GST provisions, impact of GST on various sectors and

different business models; practical training in GST Registration, Certification and GST related issues.

The Department of Communicative English is initiating a short term course in New Media from this

academic year. New Media Studies have become increasingly popular with the rise of newer technological

applications in the recent years. The stream explores the usage of new digital media in communication,

education and other social and intellectual facets.

EXCEL WITH CHINMAYA

Placement Cell

The College has an active placement cell that coordinates the hiring activities

of the students and serves as an interface between the students and the

corporate world. Our focus is always on inviting companies with varied profiles

to suit the requirements of our students looking for jobs in finance,

accounting, and marketing, sales, computers, audit and research background.

Students from various streams were successfully placed in reputed

organizations such as Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Deloitte, TCS, UST

Global, CTS, Sutherland, Muziris, Spectrum etc.

Sports

We believe that sport is vital in maintaining a healthy mind and body. We have bagged high positions in

fencing (6 medals in State Fencing Championship), Table Tennis (Ist runner up in university), Judo (two

bronze medals in university) and Taekwondo( one bronze medal in university). Participation in major

competitions are also ensured in Power lifting, Basket ball, Cricket, Football, Badminton and Athletics at

the State and University level.

N.S.S

The college has an active N.S.S wing with approximately 100 students enrolled.They practice the motto of

"service". Over the years our students have served the less fortunate and the needy in all way they can. In

addition to the regular activities, this year,Chinmaya students have extended their helping hands at flood

relief camps, supplied medical equipment to Taluk hospital Tripunithura and served the needy sections of

Valanthakad Island in Maradu.

Club Activities

Various clubs function to encourage literary, cultural, sports and entrepreneurship activities among the

students. COMPAC - The Computer Association, EXCELSIOR - The Management Association, EMPORIO -

The Commerce Association, SEVANA - The Charity and Social Service Club, Entrepreneur Development

Club, Mercadeo - The Marketing Club, Krithi –TheArtsClub, Women EmpowermentCell, theSportsClub,

Quiz Club, Literary Club, Dramatics Club and Media Club organize various activities from time to time to

help promote the holistic development of the students.
