So I tried to appeal to them, on the basis of their vast educaon and the fact that they were now graduates, to give careful consideraon to this knoy problem. I was afraid of what they were going to decide, so I held them off as long as possible. But when I finally asked for their answer, every one of them chose the same thing. The dollar! And I could tell by their pleased expressions that they knew I would be impressed with their careful thinking! Did that problem end at Kiddie Kampus? No, the whole world is hooked on the same thing. Steps to Christ, p. 10

Our mission is to be fully devoted followers of

Christ who help others stand with honor for

Him in the Final Conflict.

I was invited one time to give an address to a class of kindergarten students who were graduating into first grade. That was an ominous honor. They all came marching in, wearing their little homemade gowns and cardboard mortarboards with the tassels hanging down, and I was supposed to try to say something appropriate! I had decided that I would have to try to involve them in the address or I would nev-er be able to keep their attention, so I had a problem for them to solve. The problem was this: “Let’s pretend that in my left hand I have a note for a million dollars, to be payable when you are 21 years old. And in my right hand, I have a dollar that you can have right now. Which would you choose?” I could see the lollipops and ice cream bars and bubble gum going by in their minds. So I tried to appeal to them, on the basis of their vast education and the fact that they were now graduates, to give careful consideration to this knotty problem. We’ve been called the “Now Generation.” And until we realize the need for something beyond just the here and now, we will continue to make the same choice these graduates did.—By Morris Venden, Signs of the Times, September 1984. Quote: “I would think it a greater happiness to win one soul for Christ than to gain mountains of gold and silver for myself.”—By Matthew Henry, Signs of the Times.

Church News

ROK Ministries has been preparing for our 2020-2021 School Year! Our main goal over the next few months is to welcome our stu-dents back to campus with open arms and provide a safe place for them. Our first event for this year is to connect ROK Friends (Church Members) with the ROK Students. Soon we will be talking more about this and will be providing forms to sign up for this wonderful ministry. Prayerfully consider what you can do to Reach Our Kids!

Grief Support Group will be meeting, Monday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the Junior room. Women’s Prayer Group is meeting Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Junior room. Save the Date: The Church Campout is scheduled for October 23-25, at Highland Retreat. Church Reopening. The New Market Church Board voted this week to reopen our sanctuary for in-person services beginning August 1. This service will begin at 10:15 AM Sabbath morning, and will continue to be livestreamed as in the past with minor modifications. Our academy dorm students will not be joining us in-person until August 29. The outdoor service will contin-ue to be an option, weather permitting, for the foresee-able future. Please note that in order to attend the in-person/in-building worship service, you must comply with some very specific requirements, such as the wearing of a mask at all times, maintaining six feet of separation from others at all times (except those you live with, of course), etc. These requirements are available on the right-hand sidebar of our website, www.newmarketadventist.org. Please be familiar with and agree to upholding these requirements prior to attending the indoor, in-person services. Looking for-ward to seeing you there!
