NEWS FROM THE NURSE: FLU SEASON IS HERE!
The Arizona Department of Health Services has reported that the number of
Influenza (flu) cases so far this year is almost triple the number that was seen
last year at this time. All counties in Arizona have reported influenza cases. Please
help stop the spread the flu by getting your child vaccinated for the flu and
talking to your kids about frequent hand washing and covering coughs. Please do
not send your child to school if they have a fever (temperature over 100.0),
vomiting, deep or frequent coughing or a very sore throat. As a reminder, the
nurse does not and cannot keep any stock medications in her office and no student
is permitted to have any medication in their possession at any time without
specific prior arrangements with the nurse. If you want your child to have over
the counter medications (ie. Tylenol, Advil, cough drops, etc) available to them at
school, please contact Nurse Langdon at [email protected]
ATHLETIC ATTENDANCE BEHAVIOR
Students, thank you for supporting our athletes during our home games. All
students must remain in the gym during the game, you may use the restroom but
need to return to the gym. If the students leave the gym completely they will not
be allowed to return to the game. No food or drink allowed in the gym. Thank You!

I remind parents that if this is not adhered to that they may be given a citation by the Glendale

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY
Dear Hillcrest Parents and Guardians,
This is a reminder that on Friday, January 17th, School will end 90 minutes earlier than our usual end time. That early release time will be 1:30 pm for Hillcrest Middle School. Lunch will be served.
Education is a field that continues to change rapidly, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our staff are able to fulfill their commitment of meeting the challenges of today’s educational environment. Supporting this commitment includes providing the time for staff to work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) each week, at a regularly scheduled time, to collect, review and utilize student data to more effectively serve our students’ academic and behavioral needs.
We are looking forward to collaborating and looking at pre-assessment data to create goals for student learning.
Thank you!

MESSAGE FROM THE NURSE
Nurse: Kristin Langdon
Contact: [email protected]
Any student with excessive medical needs can apply for Medical Exemptions and Exclusions or
Homebound status if it's causing an excessive attendance issue. Forms for the student's
physician to complete are available from the nurse. Please email her to request the form(s) at:
* Prior to obtaining the form, please speak with Mrs. Linda Lowe at Hillcrest Middle School's
front office about DVUSD's attendance criteria.
Student(s) must apply for medical exemptions and exclusions or Homebound Status every school
year and the final decision is made by staff at DVUSD.
*DVUSD has a new medication policy – A Doctor’s Medication Authorization Form and Parent
Medication Form must be completed for any and all medications (including over the counter
medications) that are to be given or available at school. These forms along with the medication
are to be submitted to the Nurse’s office by a parent or guardian. These forms are available
from the Health Office.
