Neo-Classical Realism Morgenthau: ‘science of international politics’ – positivism ‘Six Principles of Political Realism’: Politics is governed by objective laws which have their roots in human nature. (predict rational pol. behavior) National interest defined in terms of power. Idea and concept of INTEREST remains constant – forms and nature of state power will vary in time, place and context. Universal moral principles do not guide state behavior. There is no universally agreed set of moral principles. Intellectually, the political sphere is autonomous from every other sphere of human concern – legal, moral and economic – interest defined in terms of POWER.
