It used to be that all jewelry was handcrafted by real artists in their studios. They hand-picked their gemstones and worked devotedly on each piece. Now, most jewelry is mass produced by machines and factory workers paid for quantity, not quality. I founded Elle Bernard & Company with the goal of creating gorgeous, handcrafted jewelry: inspiring and inspired by heart and soul. In my 20 years working with artists and designers inspiration proved itself to be as vital to the creative process as oxygen is to life. If I had a nickel for every time an artist sat in my offi ce stalled out on a project, up against a looming deadline, and seeking inspiration — well, I would have many nickels. Getting an artist back on track is an art form in itself and was one of my favorite parts of my career. Artists aren’t the only ones who need inspiration. We all need it — every day.
