THE CHOICE KINDERLAND HANDBOOK 2020-21 8
Dear Parents,
We are in the “new normal” of living owing to unforeseen world situations of a pandemic that made its epidemic appearance in December 2019 from a localized impact in China to an international level across Europe, Asia, America, Africa and soon the whole world by March 2020. We are in the responsive mode of concocting measures and solutions to fi ght this COVID-19 on diff erent fronts, dimensions which have not only brought relief but also unanticipated side- eff ects. In the midst of these, there are births of many new opportunities, perspectives and a whole new adaptation to the restrictive norms of living. The economic impact of the COVID-19 is worldwide and we are all striving to create the normalcy we enjoyed and perhaps tolerated during the pre-COVID-19 times. What are the ways forward? What are the sorts of engagments that need to be restored? We have faced lockdowns, containments, quarantines, speedy manufacturing of life-saving equipment, the rush to fi nd medical cure for the pandemic and still we are in the constant fear of the impact of the pandemic. Our education sector has transitioned into the digital learning dimension all of a sudden. What an opportunity if we deem it to be so! We realize that we could do many things diff erently and still be accepted and appreciated. We oft use the phrase “blessing in disguise” and this is certainly true of the pandemic. In all situations in life, there is the birth of new solutions that are going to be exciting. We are in planes of living that mankind has never seen before owing to the advancements in science and technology. We are constantly evolving. There is no progress without the concept of change and evolution beating the odds and setbacks be it war, disease, disasters, accidents etc. The digital form of learning is here to stay to aid the physical reality, to preserve Nature in ways we have never explored before. The large-scale worldwide adoption of online lessons and tools proves that technology is crucial in transforming the impact of digital life of world citizens. Where we have been reluctant to go digital, we encountered situations impeding progress. It is clear now that it is a necessary form of survival but not evil although we continue to debate on banes and boons of digital infl uence on lives and specially children.
THE CHOICE KINDERLAND HANDBOOK 2020-219
Greater dimensions of learning are to be explored with speed. Work from home, lessons delivered at homes, schools being experienced from the comforts of our personal rooms are a reality now and an acceptable way of living because we are in survival mode. The change of mindset, the paradigm shift of possibilities and methods to live and learn are tremendous. Does it take a pandemic to make us realize these? Do threats to our lives have to be there to adopt positive changes? It all amounts to the practice of open-mindedness, acceptance of diff erent ways of thinking, exploration of ideas and thus preparedness that will save us. Sharing of expertise across the world is our key to survival. Collaborative teaching and learning is an essential ingredient in our educational system. We need each other ever stronger to counter the pandemic and the eff ects on our morale and well-being. Yes, let us welcome 2020-21 academic year with a whole range of new possibilities despite the looming threats which shall be cleared and soon pass. Let us enjoy and grow together staying connected with the knowledge we can gain, the character and the personality that we can nurture, the health that we can build through wise decisions and good habits for us to be true responsible citizens of the world. Welcome 2020-21 with a brave heart! Thank you. Ajith P. Jacob Principal
THE CHOICE KINDERLAND HANDBOOK 2020-21 10
Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Namaskar! I would like to welcome all of you back to this great institution “The Choice School” and hope you stay safe, healthy and wise.
I am aware of the diffi cult situation we are all in now with regard to the unexpected ‘enemy’ that attacked the whole world, including our country. We all know that this virus has caused immense human suff ering and losses. As I write this, we are still unclear as to what the future really has in store for us. Life style has changed, the fabric of relationships has changed, children and families are staying at home, and it is completely a new experience. We were not ready for this unexpected change but I am happy that we could very quickly adapt and face this challenge that continues to confront us.
Besides the many lives lost in this world, there is also a major impact on the world economy and in particular, for India. I hope very soon the medical experts will fi nd a solution to the pandemic Covid-19 and put the world back on track and allow our children to get back to school and also for our businesses and enterprises to resume full operations, because I strongly believe a country like India needs a strong economy to back the future generations. It is imperative to value time and wisdom, to work hard and smart, to protect our future.
We, at the school, are taking various actions to mitigate any consequences that may impact our school due to this pandemic. Let’s stay positive and united in every way we can, during these diffi cult times. I am sure this too will soon pass!! Once again, we will do everything we can to keep our entire school community - comprising all our students, staff , parents and educational partners - safe, by nurturing knowledge and bringing in new practices which will include self-distancing and personal hygiene. I am very confi dent that within a short period of time, we will defeat this virus and get back on our feet.
God bless Choice School, our nation and the entire world!

THE CHOICE SCHOOL ANTHEM Every morning, every day This is what
we love to sing
Thank you God for a school so nice
For we are here as a matter of Choice.
When we’re at The Choice School
Every norm and every rule
Is designed and made in a way
That we’re complete in every way.
The rushing brook, the chirping birds
The rustling leaves, the spoken word
Teachers true and dear friends here
Raise us to sublime heights so clear.
Each one of us at Choice is blessed
To home and nation we’ll give our
best Each day a new experience
Oh! We’re in search of excellence.
THE CHOICE SCHOOL SONGSing aloud it’s a bright new day, in a
bright new world, and a bright new
way of life Sing aloud together again
in this beautiful world above we see a
bright blue sky
We are together happy and forever,
together we stand united as one
We thank our parents, our teachers
and you my friends and most of all
“Almighty” God above
We thank you lord for this mighty
blessing you gave us and for choosing
us to be the children of Choice
This campus that we live in with the
premises so clean, we know that it’s
all a blessing from above
Let thy showers of blessing dwell in
us forever throughout this journey of
our lives, the days that we spent here
would be the most precious of all the
education being from Thy kingdom
Oh! Lord
We are the children, the children of
Choice School chosen by the Mighty
One we proclaim
The truthful life and the blissful ways
blossoms our future bright moulded
towards our destiny so right
We thank you Lord for this school that
you gave us, We thank you for Choice,
Choice School.

Learn
&Play
Children learn and
develop cognitive
skills, physical abili-
ties, new vocabulary,
social skillls and
literacy skills.
Play helps children grow and conteracts obesity issues
facing many children today
Play is joyful and provides an outlet for
anxiety and stress
Play is simple and complex. There are many types of play,
symbolic, sociodramat-ic, functional and games
with rules -- to name just a few
They are not separate activities.
They are intertwined. Think about them as
a science lecture with a lab. Play is the
child’s lab.
Play is an active
form of learning that
unites the mind, body
and spirit.

QUALITY TIMEThese kids feel loved through sharing time with people. Cook together, go on
solo bike rides, let them sit up later for 1 on 1 time. Structure your day with small
timeslots to spend playing with/interact-ing with them. Discipline by withdrawing
a section of time-especially if they’ve wasted yours.
GIVING GIFTSThese chldren like you to give them things
to treasure; Buy them something. pick them a fl ower, start a ‘treasure box’ for
them. Make sure you listen when they say something they want. Discpline by taking
away for a time.
ACTS OF SERVICELove helping others and getting to ‘do
things’ with parents, but especially independetly. Helping wash the car, be given freedom to make their own sand-wiches/lunch. Surprise family member with something they’ve done for them,
Discipline by reoving a freedom.
PHYSICAL TOUCHThese kids love you being close! Spend an intentional 5 minutes a day at least being
physically present with them-wrestle, hug, sit next to them, etc. Discipline them
by removing yourself for a time.
WORDS OF AFFIRMATIONThese Kids thrive on spoken or written encouragement. Write a note, tell them
you’re proud and why, make them a big deal with your words, but don’t be
patronising. Discipline them by saying I’m disappointed in how you have acted
