hello! We are going to take you on our Hand Built Adventure!
First thing that happens is the child is given this scroll. with the scroll form comes a sense of adventure and mystery. As they unroll the scroll, anticipation and excitement builds.

First thing you notice is the holes. These serve as windows in which the kids can run through the park, trying to align sculptures in the empty space. CLICK By including the holes, we wanted the child to rea

Nelson lawn is larger than life magical space especially to a li ttle kid. There are big trees, a huge lawn and monumental sculptures.
These are things that could spark a chil ds imagination.

To augment this sense of curiosity, dense, hand drawn illustrations of the materials, tools, and other event spaces were drawn to cover the map that enhanced and interact with the missing spaces.

As for the form of our map we wanted the kids to see all of these fun exciting illustrations and really engage with them.
We wanted the experience to be simple for the families. We wanted the map to be a single piece of paper without extra components or additional materials.
We believe that the the child will want to fill in the missing spaces.

From the user testing day it was great to see the children really connect with the map. Both of our groups enjoyed the illustrations.

We left a lot of white space as well incase they feel the need to continue coloring in the map in the activity tent. (zoom in image of saying to fill in at activity tent)

We wanted to keep the size of the map large. It s an adventure and we wanted it to be larger than l ife. It allows more interaction with in the family as well.
It creates a family experience were they can all navigate through the park as one unit. Everyone is able to see it, it can be personal or shared.

They can use the mini map we decided to add After our experience from the user testing day. This gives the families a clearer source of navigation and direction through the sculpture park.

WIth the inclusion of the mini map i t allowed us to use the other space as an activity space. It enabled us to really go wild and create an even more dense and rich adventure for the viewer.

We coordinated all of the colors and numbers on the map. The list of Destinations with the colored circles serves as a key to reference their spot on the map. The numbers and colors are on the mini map, liste
larger activity side to ensure clarity.

For example, CLICK when they look at the red #1 on the mini map they can coordinate it with the the CLICK list of destinations as well as find out the artist and year for the sculpture, CLICK and again on the l
where sculpture is. For even further clarity each sculptures outline is the same color as the dot on the map.

We think our map will be a great experience for all ages, engaging them with in the Hand Built Event at the KC Sculpture Park.
With the map we want to create a tool that encourages the kids to explore and observe the park and eventually bringing it back again for another adventure.
