Policy Development

An Alcohol and Drugs Policy should be robust enough to withstand a legal challenge but be reasonable in its requirements. The policy provides guidelines for dealing with the issue of alcohol and drug misuse but also offers confidential and impartial help and support to an employee who seeks assistance for an alcohol or drug problem.

The policy should give you and your managers effective procedures to combat the problem from alcohol and drug misuse facing all companies today regardless of their size, and ensure you comply with your legal requirements.

Through our policy development team Hampton Knight can offer a legally defensible Alcohol and Drug Policy which would comply with existing health and safety requirements and fulfill your legal and employment law obligations. We would work with you to make sure that it also reflects the culture and current policies within your company.

Training

At Hampton Knight we believe that training and awareness is a crucial part of the implementation of any Alcohol and Drugs Policy. All of your employees regardless of their position in the company will need to be made fully aware of their responsibilities within the policy.

We can assist you in structuring a training programme that will meet these needs and ensure that the policy is implemented positively and effectively.

Screening and Testing

Hampton Knight can supply testing products for both alcohol and drugs. For alcohol, we supply breath alcolmeters similar to the Home Office approved instruments used by the Police. For drug testing we can provide urine and oral fluid testing products, with the option of an instant test as well as UKAS approved laboratory analysis.

Hair testing is another option available. This method is able to detect drug use for up to three months.

Our products and services are fully validated and supported by research, expert opinion and vigorous chain of custody procedures and documentation giving you... the most accurate and defensible drug testing systems available today.

Our collection service is in-house, offers independence and is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. We can also provide an independent ‘Random Selection programme’, which would enable you to demonstrate that your testing programme is fair, reliable and legally defensible. As part of this service, you will have access to our 24/7 telephone helpline for any queries you or your managers may have regarding a test, where you will get to speak to one of our specialist advisors.

WellbeingWellbeing

The true cost to business of employee ill-health is often hidden but an effective wellbeing programme used as part of your occupational health programme can improve not only the health of your employees but also your productivity and profitability.

An organisation is successful thanks to the people working to achieve its success. Employees are your biggest asset but if they become unhealthy they can become your biggest liability.

Through our Wellbeing Team and our innovative approach, your wellbeing programme would be tailored and relevant to your business needs.

“We know that the longer someone is off sick or out of work, the harder it is to get back to work, and worklessness comes at

great personal and financial cost.”

Health at work – an independent review of sickness absence (2011)

Our Wellbeing Programmes

Our Wellbeing Team at Hampton Knight would work with you to plan and deliver wellbeing events for your business. This could be an individual wellbeing event or we could plan with you a monthly wellbeing calendar throughout the year.

Through our Health Needs Assessment, we would work with you to create an event or campaign which would be based on your business requirements as well as linking in with the government’s monthly topics.

Health Roadshows can also be provided if you have multiple sites to run over several days. Hampton Knight can arrange relevant third party organisations to attend the sites as part of a collaborative event to target several health topics at once.

We offer two levels of service, the first provides you with resource material such as posters, leaflets and hand-outs on the topic which are tailored with your company name and logo. These can be supported by specific resource materials from third party organisations on the chosen topic. We can also source additional resources from local organisations such as local charities, gyms, health spas etc.

You would also be provided with a short PowerPoint presentation on your chosen topic to be delivered by your own managers.

To enhance the above service we can provide our skilled personnel to attend your site(s) to deliver the wellbeing programme which will provide a more interactive programme for you and your employees.

Support

Our wellbeing team would produce tailored promotional and support materials in advance of any visit or event to help promote and raise the awareness of the event. Our graphics team would work closely with you to make sure that any themes, logos or corporate concepts are captured in the materials that we produce.

We would work with you to ensure the wellbeing programme is a success.

Reports

Following each visit, a report will be produced providing anonymous statistics on the subjects/topics that had been raised and would provide information that can be used by the occupational health team to target specific issues that are raised from the events.

The Cost of Sickness Absence

• 1.1 million working people were suffering from a work-related illness

• 173 workers killed at work

• 111 000 other injuries to employees were reported under RIDDOR

• 212 000 over-3-day absence injuries occurred

• 27 million working days were lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury

• £13.4 billion was the cost to society from workplace injuries and ill health (excluding cancer) in 2010/11 (HSE Statistics 2011/2012)

Working for a healthier tomorrow

Dame Carole Black’s review “Working for a healthier tomorrow” published in March 2008 sought to establish the foundations for a broad consensus around a new vision for health and work in Britain. At the heart of this vision are three principal objectives: • Prevention of illness and promotion of health and well-being; • Early intervention for those who develop a health condition; and • An improvement in the health of those out of work – so that everyone with the potential to work has the support they need to do so.

Our wellbeing programmes aim to provide opportunities for employees to develop healthier lifestyles by supporting the

adoption of habits, behaviours and attitudes that contribute to their positive physical and mental wellbeing both in and

out of the workplace.
