Happiness Is Living at Hampton in Highland!
Logos of LoveSymbols for love and romance are
everywhere we look: in fine art andmagazines, on billboards and greetingcards, and even on the clothes wewear. Hearts, flowers, gems and othermotifs bring to mind the emotionalqualities of love and how we feelabout our loved ones.
The Romans believed diamonds, worn to symbolize eternal love, weresplinters of fallen stars. The firstdiamond engagement ring can betraced to the 15th century.
The personification of love andcourtship, Cupid is depicted with abow and quiver of arrows. The notionthat being hit by Cupid’s arrow willmake the victim fall in love comesfrom the myth of Cupid and Psyche.
Likely the most common symbol forlove is the heart. At one time, scholarsbelieved the heart was the seat of allhuman emotions. Giving a heartsignified the act of giving everything tosomeone you love.
Roses represent beauty, purity andromance. Each color adds furthermeaning, with red depicting true love.
Doves have long been considereda sign of faithful and eternal lovebecause they remain a pair for life.
The design of the Celtic knot, having no beginning and no end, is atestament to the enduring nature oftrue love.
Because of its hard casing, thescallop shell echoes the protectivequality love sometimes takes. As theshell encircles and protects, sodoes love.
Other symbols of love include theladybug, swan, dolphin and harp.
“If equal affection cannot be,let the more loving be me.”

Maintenance Tip of the MonthYour maintenance team would like
to offer helpful tips about apartmentliving with us. This month’s Tip:
Preventing Plumbing IssuesKeep drains flowing freely. Avoid
pouring oil, coffee grounds or othersolids into the kitchen sink. In thebathroom, remove hair from the sinkand tub promptly so they’re notwashed down the drain. Do not flushdown your toilet: oil/grease,Q-Tips/make-up sponges, feminineproducts, baby wipes/“flushable” toiletwet wipes, or paper towels. Normalsink and toilet clogs usually can beunstopped with a plunger. Fill theclogged vessel with water and thenpush the plunger straight down in aquick, firm motion. You may need torepeat a number of times before theclog is removed.

A Smart InvestmentFires, theft, storms and floods are

Cry Me a RiverAnd while you’re at it, make it
green! A green river in Chicagomeans St. Paddy’s Day festivities arein full swing. The Chicago River, atjust 156 miles long, flows throughdowntown Chicago and is actually a19th century engineering marvel. Itsflow, which used to run north andemptied into Lake Michigan, wasredirected south toward theMississippi River basin for sanitationpurposes. In 1961, parts of the riverwere dyed green by the localplumbers’ union to locate anddisconnect a waste line that wasemptying into the river. Luckily for IrishAmericans, that event gave birth tothe idea of dyeing the entire river onSt. Patrick’s Day.
In 1962, the first trial run, 100pounds of dye were pumped into thewater making the river green for aweek. The second year, planners cutthe amount used in half, and the riverwas only green for three days.Today’s perfected measurement, 40pounds, produces the famousKelly-green-colored water for four tofive hours of tons o’ fun entertainment.
We’ll Be Seeing GreenWe hope you have a very happy
St. Patrick’s Day! If you are going outto celebrate, don’t count on the luck o’the Irish: Be sure to have adesignated driver.
