Myah W, Chloe N, Evie and Frankie (with the support of some other future leaders) advertised the event for about a week, organised a list of students to participated which included about 100 children, and set up and supervised sections of the course. Everyone had a great time traversing the course and have requested that we do it again next term. Congratulations on organising a great event girls! Harmony Day Thanks everyone for joining in on our Harmony Day focus last Thursday. Please have a read of our Harmony Day sentences submitted by students to identify why and how we all belong. Easter Parade and Raffle Don’t forget to support our P&C by donating Easter eggs, baskets or gifts for the Easter raffle which is drawn at the Easter Parade. Donations can be dropped in to classes or the office. Thank you. P&C Election Day Barbeque Thanks to all parents, students and friends who donated their time to make and/or sell food on the day of the election. The egg and bacon rolls were superb! Jackson Lane We have recently received confirmation that Jackson Lane (at the rear of the school) will be changing from the responsibility of Crown Land to that of Newcastle City Council. Although there is no specific timeframe identified as yet, it is good to know that a favourable decision has been made. This will mean a much needed upgrade in terms of the road surface and parking. We can’t wait! Friday Assembly All parents are welcome to attend Friday assembly commencing at 2.30pm in the hall. Class item 4/5. I’d like to especially acknowledge Mr Peter Johns, our General Assistant, who collated a lot of information which informed our school/P&C request for the transfer of responsibility to occur. Parent/Teacher Interviews It’s wonderful to see so many parents attending interviews this year. While our percentages are always quite high, this year almost all families have confirmed an interview date and time with only a few yet to confirm. Interviews are very important to ensure that you have the vital information about your child’s progress. School reports will be sent home at the end of Term 2. Kelly Deakin Principal School Holiday Playground Preparation— Help Needed On Saturday 13 th April from 7am to 12pm, one of our super dads, Andy Wilcox, is coming into school to remove and cut up our old fixed playground equipment (see-saw, climbing frame and boat), lay some additional cement to make a bigger foundation for our new cubbyhouse and put the cut up equipment into a skip bin. Andy will need quite a bit of assistance in cutting up the old equipment (some metal and some wood) and loading it into the skip. This work will allow us to have our new fixed playground equipment installed. It will also mean that we have a bit more money to spend on equipment rather than demolition and removal fees. If you can help please contact the office. ANZAC Day Dawn Service – Gregson Park Hamilton North PS once again has the opportunity to march with our leaders at the Dawn Service. This year some of our students will recite a poem as a part of the Gregson Park Dawn Service. Our leaders will lay a wreath along with the other leaders representing their schools. All students and families are very welcome to attend. Please ensure that your child is wearing full school uniform as they are representing our school at a significant public event.

  • P&C News Firstly a big thank you to all the volunteers (old and new) that helped with our BBQ and cake stall at the HNPS polling booth on Saturday. This event raised over $350 which will go towards school contributions such as the much anticipated playground re-development. The P&C are hoping we can get another lot of volunteers to help out again in May for the Federal election. Please let me or any other P&C member know if you would like to help. Secondly, I am running a second hand school uniform stall tomorrow in the parents retreat from 3-4 pm. There is a lot to choose from with heaps of winter clothes. $5 a piece. Lastly, a big congratulations to Ms Deakin and the 2018 P&C for the perseverance and determination needed to finally get Jackson Lane transferred to the local council. Lets hope pot holes and unorganised parking will soon be a thing of the past!

Donations for the Easter Raffle The P&C are running the fabulous Easter Raffle again this year and are asking for donations from the school community. Donations of Easter eggs/rabbits/bilbies, chocolates or baskets will ensure that there are plenty of prizes to win on the day. If you are able to contribute to the raffle, donations can be added to the collection box in each classroom or dropped into the school office. Thanks, Frances (P&C President)

    EASTER HUNT AND PARADE FUN!!!

Our annual Easter day is fast approaching on Wednesday 10th April. It is a fun day consisting on an Easter colouring competition (completed in class on the day) followed by an Easter hunt in the playground. After recess we have our annual Easter Hat Parade and Easter raffle. Parents are welcome to attend the Easter Hat Parade which begins at 2pm in the Parents’ Retreat. Toddlers are encouraged to dress up with their own Easter hat and parade around at the end with their big brothers and/or sisters. There will be some seating available but you are welcome to bring fold out chairs. If students wish to participate in the Easter hunt they will need to bring $3 to the office in an envelope with their name and class on it by Wednesday 3rd April. This fee has increased due to Easter eggs being more expensive in the last couple of years. Winners from the Easter colouring competition will be announced at COLA assembly on Thursday 11th April. We look forward to seeing you all at the parade.

  • Environment Club Newsletter Environment Club members have had a productive fortnight. Last week we discussed school students striking to take part in a climate change rally. Alice said “good on them”! The girls thought it was a good idea because they don’t have other ways to have their voice heard by the government. When asked what changes they would like the government to make, Anna suggested having more solar panels and Erin agreed and thought it would be a good way to save money in the long term. Imagine a future where all schools had solar panels!

Charlotte, Erin, Xanthia and Ben helped me begin painting the old cubby last Wednesday. Unfortunately we ran out of paint and haven’t completed the roof and trimmings yet. We have been busy planting and preparing garden beds for winter crops and have planted Kale and snow peas. Next week we are planting garlic.

Market Garden Basil bunches will be for sale this Friday at Market Garden for $1. Buy a bunch and make your own pesto this weekend. We also have silver beet, beans, eggplant, zucchini, lemons, flower posies and eggs. Due to rising food costs, eggs will be going up to $7 a dozen or $3.50 for half. Don’t forget you can pick your own herbs anytime for just $1. Simply pay the ladies in the office and borrow some scissors to cut your own bunch. Save money and packaging.
