While
the
weather
there
is
beginning
to
cool
down,
we
are
getting hotter
and
h
had some
much
needed rain last week
that
cooled
things down for
a while
but i t is
up there today
The
family and I are
all
doing very well. Francie had her iith birthday last w
Annette
had a little party for her with her
fi?iends
from the church. She enjoye
rself very
much and
so did Jon. Jon
is
getting along
all right
except
he
sti l l w
I t hink tlia t he
is
just lazy
The f irs t of
this
month,
the
family and I went to Kimberley and then
Bob Mills
went on to Craddock for the planning meeting for the conference
for the
native chu
year We
had a very nice
trip
and the family enjoyed
getting away
with
me
for
of
staying
a t
home.
At this
meeting at Craddock the missionaries all
met
and decided to plan a prea
here
at
the Troyeville
Church
of Christ for
December,
It
will
just
be
for a
w
but i t
^11 be
a great help to
all
of us.
The theme is
How shall they hear .
are looking forward to
this
meeting very much.
For
some
time now, I have been having a speech
class for
the ones
interes ted in
at the
Church and
right before we
went
to Kimberley ye decided to expand an
more
classes for these
young
people because we
felt
that they
needed
i t
and
som
e m
asked
for
i t So upon
our return,
we began
having 6 hours of evening class
wo
hours
a night for three nights
each
week
and
also
Uncle
Sam
we memtioned him
in
letters) is taking 10 hours of classes in the daytime besides these ni^t c
.
He
is veiy interested
and
is a very sharp student so I really
have
to dig to ke
of
him and
the others in these classes.
The Elhurch

ey are giving him
about
I O dollars a month
from
the
church
and
then inviduals are
him
also.
That
way
he
doesn't
need
to
work
at a job
bbut
can
spend
all
his
ith his studies. Rlease pray for
him
that
he
continues to do the fine job that

Brother Mills,

I agreed
when we
met at Craddock to each offer classes in our respective areas a
upon
completion
of the required
work
we will award certificates of recognition
we will have one School of Evangelism
but
i t will be located in Capetown,
and Johannesburg. One day we hope to have someone
who
will be able to give th
time to
such
a school and have
i t
located permanently in one place but until su
time, we will just have to
do
our best to fulfill the needs of the local congregat
make
this a part of
your
prayers.
The Lord
knows
the
need and
surely
He
can

when the time
is
right
We
are happy to see the attendance at the Troyeville
Church
coming
back
up
to th
and 50's. The Lord

another young Chinese man Robert
Fortoen)
to the Chu
l a s t week
Annette and I have found i t necessary to buy a house. Because
of
the influx of
to
this
country, i t is nearly impossible to find a decent house to live in
And the rents are so
high
that i t
is
cheaper to
buy
and make paymentrs rath
an renting. Most of the other missionaries
have
already bought but
we
put
i t
off a

i t
seemed
best
Anyway we will
have
a permanent address even
when we
come b

which
is due in 1965. And if we don't have a missionary to come to li
while we^e gone
that year, we
can

without
any trouble.

CHURCH BUILDING
NEEDS
South Africa
is a growing nation and with
i t s changes
come changes in th e work as well .
There was a day when i t s
ci t ies
Jus t sprang up and this was especially true of those areas
where Africans
made
the i r homes.
In
many of the smal le r c i t i e s we st find the
houses
bui l t along
narrow
s t ree t s
very close together
every ty pe of
bui lding
mater ial b ei ng u se d.
However as planning schemes have been taking place in
a l l
th e c i t i es so also
are
th e Bantu
Loc at io ns n ea r
a l l
th e
ci t ies
b ein g rep lan ned a s wel l .
In th e
early
days the churches
were
buil t
of
th e materials which were
the
eas ies t
to
acquire for
th e
area. But now as new si tes
are
given they
are
given with
th e
stipulation
that
the
buildings must be made of
permanent
materials and a plan must be
submitted
and
accepted before any
work
can
be star ted.
This we
believe
to be a good plan bu t i t has
also
placed a
strain
upon
th e
building
program of
th e
mission here. When new
si tes are
granted and
th e
papers have been signed we
are to begin on th e
buildings
within six months and
have
them
completed
within a year.
S ince the ar r iva l of Max Randall on t he m is si on f i e ld t he A fr ic an
churches
have had the i r
own building funds to which
they
have contributed and i t has great ly helped to increase thework
that ha s been done bu t i t
has not
been able to keep up with th e work which needs to be
done.
Plans
for th e
year of
1964 cal l for th e
completion of
th e work
a t Gcilima Warrenton
and
Tarkastad There are
s i tes
already given a t Kimberley and
Vryburg.
Awaiting government action
at th e present time
are
Natalspruit at Johannesburg and Douglas. At Gcilima and Warrenton we
can
almost
say
that
th e walls
are
completed
and th e
next
task
is
th e roofing and
plastering
of
th e
building.
At Tarkastad
th e
foundation is dug and
th e
church
is working on
making
blocks
for the building. First plans have been drawn fo r Natalspruit and have been approved by th e
planning engineer
of
t ha t a rea. Kimberley plans are being worked on but for
this
work of 964
we shall need
about 5000
to put
with that of
t he Afr ic an Fund and th e money which shall be
r a i sed
by the lo ca l chu rches.
