That is why I steal to satisfy my need” said Small. Small guy had stolen 12 long tom cans of beer that were put at the top of the back wall. The owner said that he did not know what else to do since the boys were set free after he got them ar- rested. Bro Steve mentioned that he has spoken to the father of the culprit who said to him he is very tired of his son s behaviour and allowed Bro Steve to get him arrested. Toddler tantrums is a serious behaviour problem that parents experience a lot these days, says Cathrine Malete, a social worker and a child behaviour practitioner . Catherine explained that the toddlers behave in an odd way like

hitting themselves against walls, rolling on the floor or resorting violent acts.

She stated that some end up throwing everything away or breaking utensils and warned that this should be taken very serious by parents. She said that some parents end up beating the toddler thinking that the toddlers are naughty or spoilt. She urged parents and employees at kinder- gardens to keep their voices low and be patients but rather go to the level of the child and at times whisper

comfort. “We have noted that in kinder garden employees are few and children are many who needs attention. Parents should inform care givers the dietary requirements of the child in time” says Cathrine. Parents are also advised to give these children chores at home other than leave them to

only play. She gave an example where a toddler could be ordered to pack up or collect their toys to keep their mind involved. These toddlers are adults in the making and therefore they must have a sense of responsibility. They need to be loved and be understood. On the other hand, children resort to abusive behaviour and anger if they are not taken into consideration.Mrs Kekakana, head of Marokolong Day Care added that it is a serious concern when parents do not open up about their children’s problem areas. It is better for the care givers to know exactly what children’s problems to give them special treatment. She stated that children are good imitators and that parents, teachers and elders need to behave well in front of them. “It is true, toddler tantrums are there and we all have to deal with them.”She concluded.

Parents, beware of toddler tentrums

Eskom emphasised that it is working hard to ensure security of power supply. The national elec-tricity grid remains constrained and this will continue until new generating capacity comes on line and essential generation maintenance is done. Eskom Chief Executive Mr Brian Dames said power supply was constrained this summer, culminating in the declaration of two system emergencies last week (February 20 and 21). Despite the emergency declaration, no rotational load-shedding was done. Thanks to immediate demand reduction by all our customers and the utilization of emergency reserves. Up to 1000MW of demand was reduced by our industrial, commercial and residen¬tial customers during the emergency periods.Dames thanked all Eskom customers for heeding

the call to use electricity sparingly, but cautioned that the power system still remains vulnerable going into winter.Chairman of the Eskom Board, Mr Zola Tsotsi thanked all South Africans for heeding Eskom’s call to reduce electricity usage saying, “I would like to convey a special word of thanks to all our customers who supported us by agreeing to reduce their electricity usage during challenging times. Our call for all South Africans to save electricity therefore remains and is louder than ever before. Every South African has a role to play in conserving energy.”Public Enterprises Minister Mr Malusi Gigaba also urged customers to be prudent with the electricity us¬age: “The power system is currently tight and will remain like that until new generating capacity comes online. We therefore appeal for sustained savings throughout the day in order to reduce demand on the electricity grid. The less electricity you use, the more electricity will be available to go around.” The elec¬tricity system remains tight and will remain so for a foreseeable future. We can assure you that we will only use load shedding as a last resort. One to protect the national grid from total collapse. We thank all South Africans for uniting and for responding by making energy efficiency their way of life.”Eskom adopted a five-year plan aimed at ensuring a sustainable generation fleet, one that will not only generate power more reliably now but will continue to do so over the useful lives of our power stations. As 2013, the planned maintenance programme will continue throughout the year and this could poten¬tially increase the level of constraint. It remains critical for customers to maintain or achieve 10% sav¬ings especially in the commercial and residential sector.Much of the planned maintenance will be fixed, providing certainty, while outages will be done to ensure we can comply with environmental

legislation. The average age of Eskom’s power stations is 30 years and they therefore require higher levels of planned maintenance work. Maintenance will continue at high levels based on the generation sustainability strategy and to comply with environmental legislation. Planned outages vary between 5GW to 6GW up to April 2014, thereafter between 4GW and 5GW and by June will decrease to about 2GW.Unit 2 of the Koeberg nuclear power station will be shut down for planned refuelling at the end of March this year.Eskom is committed to completing the new build programme and has put the necessary resources in place to achieve this objective. Work has resumed at the Ingula pumped storage following an accident that happened at the facility in October last year. The strengthening of the transmission power lines is also progressing well, with major sections of the network (Western Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng) having been completed.By the end of this decade, we will have added a total of 17.1 gigawatts to the grid, boosting our capacity by almost 50%, from a range of new plants including return-to-service stations and open cycle gas tur¬bines, as well as Medupi, Kusile and Ingula.“These are large and complex projects that take time to build. We have said all along that the power sys¬tem would remain tight for the next few years until we get substantial new capacity online from our large new power stations,” said Dames.Eskom calls on all consumers to pull together over the next few months and use electricity sparingly by “Living Lightly”. Residential, commercial and large industrial customers can make the biggest difference by switching off geysers and pool pumps from 5pm – 9pm; switching off non-essential lights; using air-conditioners efficiently by setting the room temperature at 23⁰Cand responding to the Power Alerts messages.

Eskom urges customers to use electricity wisely as the system outlook remains tight

Premier of Gauteng Nomvula Mokonyane at Unit D Temba

By BB Maluleka

Province of Gauteng has embarked on engaging with the youth in ensuring that they participate in government by visiting their respective areas. Premier Nomvula Mokonyane visited Unit D on 07 February 2014 she addressed the youth and community members.

Mokonyane said that it is important as the government to speak to the youth about their responsibility in participating and responsibility in the democracy. This is part of what she called Tshwane Youth Civic Education Programme which aims to encourage youth to participate responsibly in a democracy. “We need youth like Solomon Mahlangu who voiced his disapproval to the apartheid though by that time the then government never allowed such practise compared to our now democratic country” said Mokonyane. She told the attendants that the today youth have recognised youth structures such as SRCs, LRCs, or SGBs but he sacrificed his life to insure that today youth are free. She said that as much as Mahlangu hails from Mamelodi which is under City of Tshwane (COT) the same could be achieved by youth of Hammanskraal as this is not impossible as we are also under the same municipal which is COT.Mokonyane condemned those youth who continue

to destroy government infrastructure when they raise issues with the ruling party as they are aware that there is lack of employments. She said that the government needs youth that would not undermine democracy but defend it like Solomon Mahlangu who never cried but left the message that his people must continue to fight in order to achieve freedom we are enjoying. She also asked the youth if they ever thought that Madiba who is from rural area no one ever expected a rural individual to become a world icon.Mokonyana said that they intend creating 6 million jobs opportunities and they have already created about 4 million jobs in South Africa. She urged the youth to go and vote responsible as the ANC have always worked with youth and they have listened to the challenge of having financial problems of paying their fees. According to Mokonyane about R2million have been added to students’ financial aid called NASFAS in order to assist students who cannot afford to pay for their studies at tertiary institutions mainly Universities of Technologies. She also advised learners who were unable to obtain university entry not to give up but to register with Further Educational Training Colleges (FET) as there are opportunities and there are also bursaries offered to students unlike having to stay home not doing nothing.Sibusiso Ngobeni Chairperson of Tshwane Youth Development Unit (YDU) addressing the youth he

said that they accommodate constructive criticism but there is a need for youth to come up with solutions the same as when people raise grievances. Ngobeni acknowledged that EPWP are temporary solutions but people must not think that they can buy expensive clothes and cars so project such as VAT ALLES. He highlighted the need for such project to be intergraded to other departments which will results skills transfer to the youth.According to Ngobeni there will be launch of Regional and Zonal Youth Forums in different regions which will work with YDU. He further said that there is a need for the youth to participate in Intergraded Development Programmes (IDP) because some do not participate then later on they start participating in strikes claiming that they were not consulted meanwhile they don’t attend meetings. The department of Home Affairs was also part of the event encouraging those who have since applied for their ID to come and fetch them in order to be able to register so that they could vote in the upcoming elections. Volunteers from the department were assisting those who needed their documents and even the mobile vehicle was also available for members of community to get services for different documents they needed such as ID, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate including those of their details were incorrect namely wrong names or surnames.

I would like to say, we are aware, we appreciate and even if we don’t say anything just know that we are grateful.

I also want to mention to the SAPS and the Metro Police that work hard on R101. Honestly the drivers don’t like you there but the community is very grateful that you are there. It is for the safety of parents and children who travel to town everyday that you are there. Drivers on this road are very careless.

This time we have been observing taxi drivers. For a change they are doing a better job as compared to other drivers. Le ba tshwareng.

We also noticed that there are no school children at the Jubilee mall during school hours. This is unlike other malls or shopping complexes.

You are all doing a great job and we are proud to have people like you in our community.

The first trait of over comers is weeping eyes. Those who over come great battles of life they do not shy away from crying but it is important to know who to cry to when you are facing the hurdles of life. Have you ever suffered loss as David and the Israelites did in 1 Samuel 30 1-5. David and his men cried unto God 1 Sam 30:4. Then David and the men with him lifted up their voices and wept until they had no more strength left. In the mist of his followers David cried to his God he did not shy away. Do you know that dry eyes might be a sign of the hardness of the heart. When a person is not touched by the state of affairs around him/her. These days we find few weeping eyes despite the state of our affairs in our land. Why? It depicts the hardness of the heart of the nation. Over comers don’t shy away from crying to God. Great men and women of the bible cried to God and God heart was moved , he heard their cries and He answered their prayers.

Hannah cried to God, He opened her barren womb and she gave birth to a son who become a prophet. What a great move of God. Nehemia wept when he received the report about the walls of Jerusalem and the captures who returned.Neh 1:4

When the foundation of the temple of Zerubabel was laid, the priest, levites and the older generation cried when other people were sinning and praising God and giving thanks. Ezra 3 12-13 But many of the older priests, Levites, and family leaders, who had seen the first temple, wept loudly when they saw the foundation of this house, but many others shouted joyfully. 13 The people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shouting from that of the[a] weeping, because the people were shouting so loudly. And the sound was heard far away. The great overcomer. Lord Jesus Christ cried too. 1. John 11: 35 “Jesus wept”. 2. Luke 19 : 414241 rAnd when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, t“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now uthey are hidden from your eyes.

The right thing is to cry to God when you find yourself in Ziglag situation. The word of the Lord promises in 2 Chronicles14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. As the nation we need to be able to cry to God our father without shying way. Amen

Over comers do cry

South African leaders usually says that the community members must stop asking what the government can do for them but ask themselves what they can do for their government. Some youth in Temba of Hammanskraal have decided to adhere to this practice by doing something by the potholes near their car wash in the area in the area locally known as Oustad. The youth who did not want their names to be disclosed were seen by Hammanskraal News filling the ‘potfields’ on the road that links Leboneng and Temba on Saturday morning of February 21. Some of them who spoke on conditions of anonymity they said they felt the need to fill the potholes because the cars are been damaged and the public works have more work to do because they are too many. He further said that these potholes have badly affected their business because some of their clients no longer bring their cars at our car wash and we also want to help motorists as the road is always busy. One of the youths told Hammanskraal News that most of Public Works employees are ‘Badala’(elderly) who don’t work but spent most of their time cooking with tins and as the youth they are not employed.Hammanskraal News spoke to some of the motorists who sang praises to these youth saying that they are doing a good job and he is surprised because most of the potholes around Temba have been filled by sand which is not right but these youth made a better job because they first filled stones and then sand.

The church is one institution that plays a pivotal role in a society in insuring the shaping of morality. Some churches don’t only growing church members but to develop the community members . In Hammanskraal, Revelation of Sinai Healing Mission (RSHMC) in Lephengville at Mashimong section is giving youth opportunity to play in their brass band. Archbishop Simon Maluleke said that the church bought instruments and they had no players from the congregation, they decided to invite interested community members around to help out. The band have changed the church because people aree looking forward for the next Sunday service.. He told Hammanskraal News they do what is written in the Bible that “ we need to praise God with different instrument”.The brass band of Revelation of Sinai Brass Band has youth who are still at schools level and some working ones. Archbishop confirmed that the lives of these players have changed compared with when they started.” We don’t only focus on playing instrument but we also check with the parents of members’ behaviour to avoid conflicts at a later stage emphasized Maluleke. Some players are not from our congregation so we sometimes face challenges when they are not available for church services. Maluleke told Hammanskraal News that the brass band mostly play gospel music though they also accommodate weddings ‘songs when they perform at different celebrations and he believes that also can change the lives of the members. He said that band members are not forced to join the church but they have to remember that the band is for the church. The band performs at different events such as weddings, parties, unveiling of tombstones including funerals. “Parents have even told me that since their children have joined the church band they have peace of mind.Maluleke said that they do have challenges such as having to pay transport when the band have to perform so they ask for those who can assist with transport to help where they can. According to the band ‘captain Peter Setlhako members of community being youths or adults who wish to join Revelation of Sinai Brass Band they are welcome as they still need more members and they

would be taught how to play different instruments of brass band without any payment as they are doing it for God. Setlhako emphasized that they want people who are able to sing also as it will be difficult to play a song with an instrument while one does not know the lyrics of the song and they must have passion for music.“At the end of the year we demand school reports from members who are still at school in order to ensure that they also focus on their studies and the band doesn’t disturb their studies” explains Setlhako.Setlhako said that he is very thankful for the support they receive from the parents of the children who are members of the brass band and good relationship. He further said that they are always in contact with parents “We would like to plead with members of society to assist us with transport because the church always have fundraise when we have to perform” said Setlhako. People who are interested in joining the brass band or want to assist can contact Peter “Captain” Setlhako on the following contact 078 298 5770

February is called a month of love and the reason is that most people celebrate Valentine’s day. In Motla people were shocked a day after the celebration when a man confessed of killing his partner and buried her in the bush.

A 43 year old man has appeared Moretele Regional Magistrate Court on Thursday the 20 of this February for bail application with allegation of murdering his partner five days before Valentine’s Day. It is alleged that Eddie Ndlovu murdered his girlfriend by strangling her before taking her to the bushes of Savannah. Sport is one of the favourite activities amongst South African youth. Hammanskraal Local Organising Committee has held netball trials at Mandela stadium at the beginning of this February with the aim of selecting the strongest team that can compete in regional netball tournament. The tournament is sponsored by Tshwane Local Municipality and Gauteng North Netball Association. Caroline Khalo Chief co-ordinator for netball and also the deputy

president of region 2 sports council said the main aim of the trial was to get players who can compete in the region with the aim of taking them to the national team selections.

Khalo told Hammanskraal News that they managed to get three teams which each consisted of 12 players both from senior and junior teams where the tournament will start very soon. She stressed that issue of facilities and supports from both the community members and parents of the aspiring young netball players saying they have a very serious challenge as these girls don’t get

motivated like soccer players. Adding by saying that national sports committee doesn’t even take netball serious like they do with soccer stating that as other reason why netball doesn’t grow.

She pleads with the aspiring young players to be very much committed to netball as it can give them the opportunity to represent our nation internationally. Khalo said that they have a challenge of teams that are around which only participate when there is price money but if that is not the case they do not participates. She added that team managers and coaches should see to it
