Function

Radiant panels use both radiation and natural convection heat transfer to heat/cool the space. Radiant heat transfer is approximately 55% and convective 45% in typical cooling conditions with ceiling integrated radiant panels.

Radiant heat transfer is approximately 90% and convective 10% in typical heating conditions with ceiling integrated radiant panels.

Cooling and heating capacity is typically increased in exposed installation without top insulation when compared to ceiling integrated installation. With top insulation and in ceiling integrated installation, cooling/heating of space above suspended ceiling can be reduced. Without top insulation and in intermediate floor, the cooling/heating of space above suspended ceiling can be also partly utilized to conduct cooling/heating capacity through slab to the next floor.

Effective panel area is the area of radiant panel covered with heat exchanger piping. The cooling capacity of radiant panel is measured according the standard EN-14240. There is described the standardiSed specification of cooling capacity measurement of radiant panel in exposed installation and in ceiling integrated installation.

Effective panel area / whole ceiling area effects also to the capacity of radiant panels, with smaller area of radiant panels, capacity of effective panel area is higher. Cooling capacity measurement according the standard EN-14240 requires the exposed installation of radiant panels with less than 50% effective panel area / whole ceiling area and the ceiling integrated installation with at least 70% effective panel area / whole ceiling area. The effect of effective panel area / whole ceiling area is taken into account in Hit Design and the cooling capacity in both of these EN-14240 cases can be calculated with Hit Design.

The standardized measurement of heating capacity is done according to EN-14037. This standard includes 5 parts. The declaration of conformity (CE mark) for radiant panels is required for radiant panels used for heating. This includes measurement results for CE mark according to the EN-14037-2 (part 2). This measurement is done in accredited laboratory with one and two loop AVP-3000-600 radiant panel in exposed installation and with top insulation. The measurement standard EN-14037-5 (part 5) contains also other standardized measurement of radiant panel heating capacity.

Convective heat transfer and total capacity of radiant panel can be increased with air distribution in the areas where supply air jets are flushing the radiant panels surface. Typically this can be approximately 5-10% in cooling conditions (with 16C supply air temperature) and 10-30% in heating conditions depending on the air distribution method and operating conditions. This effect is not included in Halton HIT Design, and should be analysed separately.

Lighting

Halton Ava radiant panels can be equipped with lighting according to the project specific requirements.

Installation Halton Ava AVP radiant panels are suitable for exposed and ceiling integrated installation. Adjustable installation brackets make installation easier. Threaded rods and flexible hoses are not included in Halton AVP delivery. See locations of installation brackets in Dimensions tab .

Adjustment Cooling

The recommended cooling water mass flow rate is 0.020-0.035 kg/s, resulting in a temperature rise of 1-3 °C in the heat exchanger. To avoid condensation, the recommended inlet water temperature of the heat exchanger is over 14 °C.

Heating

The recommended heating water mass flow rate is 0.015-0.030 kg/s, resulting in a temperature drop of 3-10 °C in the heat exchanger. The maximum temperature of the inlet water for the heat exchanger is 85 °C. In typical rooms (room height up to 3 m), usual recommended maximum temperature of the inlet water is 50 °C due to the risk of too high radiation asymmetry. With exposed installation to minimum 3 m from floor and with effective panel area / whole ceiling area less than 50% also higher inlet water temperature (e.g. 60 °C) can be used without risk of too high radiant asymmetry.

Servicing

Clean the front panel and other visible painted plates using a damp cloth.

Also top panel of exposed installed AVP panel can be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth.
