Create a Halloween apron to wear for a festive party or out trick-or-treating with the kids. This apron features machine embroidery with Sulky CRY® reflective thread so you’re easily seen when the light hits you at night.

Read all instructions before beginning the project.

Project Overview • 1 yard of black fabric

• ½ yard of contrast fabric

• 5 yards of satin ribbon

• 1 yard of black lace

• Sulky CRY® Reflective thread

• Black bobbin thread

• Sulky Halloween Palette

• Machine embroidery design (approx 4”x6”; featured design: Jack o’ Lantern Filigree}

• Sulky Tear-Easy™ stabilizer

Step 1From the black and coordinating fabrics, cut out each piece according to the pattern.

Step 2Set the sewing machine for machine embroidery. Load the chosen design onto the machine. Hoop the bib with Sulky Tear-Easy stabilizer, centering the design area in the hoop.

Embroider the design, substituting CRY Reflective thread for some elements of the design. Use black lightweight bobbin thread.

When embroidery is complete, remove the fabric from the hoop. Gently tear away the stabilizer beyond the design. Press lightly from the embroidery wrong side without steam.

Step 3From the ribbon, cut two 70” lengths and one 26” length. The 26” is the waist-band, the 70”s are for the shoulder strap/waist tie.

Tip:It may be easier to embroider the bib before cutting to achieve perfect place-ment. If desired, chalk-mark the pattern

perimeter onto a fabric rectangle, mark the desired embroidery center, and then embroider. Cut out the bib after embroidery, adjusting the pattern lines if necessary to center the design perfectly.

Step 4

With right sides together, stitch the flounce pieces along their long edges. Serge- or zigzag-finish the raw edges; press. Fold the lower edge 1/4” toward the wrong side; edgestitch.

Step 5

Fold the top-flounce scallop edges by first pinking the edges or clipping 1/8” into the curves. Then fold the edges 1/4” toward the wrong side; press, and then stitch. Join the top-flounce pieces together along the corresponding edges.

Step 9Press the waist seam allowance toward the upper edge.

Step 10Topstitch the waistband to the waist seam. Folding back the 2” extra on each ribbon-end toward the wrong side, creating a loop.

Step 6Place the lower flounce right side up on a flat work surface. Place the top flounce over the lower flounce, matching the upper edges and seams. Stitch the upper edge.

Step 7Following the notches, pin the shoulder-strap ribbons to the bib upper edge.

Step 8With right sides together stitch the bib lower edge to the flounce upper edge, aligning the center fronts.

Step 11

Add decorative stitching along each flounce seam, apron lower edge and along the bib perimeter, changing thread colors as desired.
