Hall & Dreaming Of Foose Sweep Isabella Quarter Horses Futurity & ultimate Texas Barrel Classic Slot Futurity

By Tanya randall Dreaming Of Foose (“Cali”) has come a long way from an unbroke, unraced 2-year-old and started 3-year-old that garnered no interest as a potential futurity contender to a $26,000 champion. The 4-year-old brown mare and her owner and trainer Sharin Hall of Oklahoma City topped both the Isabella Quarter Horses Futu-rity and Ultimate Texas Barrel Classic Slot Futurity in Edna, Texas, Jan. 5-8. The slot race victory was worth $15,000, while the futurity win paid $9,592 in the $30,000-added event. “I bought her sight-unseen off of Barrel Horse World,” laughed Hall. “I bought her off a picture—her conformation first and papers second. I told myself that I wanted something so fast that if I made mistake she was still going to clock, and that’s what I got.”After purchasing the unbroke 2-year-old by AQHA Racing Cham-pion Foose out of Hawks Dream Girl, by Hawkinson, from her breeders Childers Ranch, LLC, of Templeton, Calif., Hall couldn’t find the filly a ride to Oklahoma. “I thought, ‘Shoot! I better start trying to find someone to get her broke in California!’” she said. “So, I called around and got some references and that’s how I met Devon Clinton. I had her vet-ted and he went and picked her up and rode her for 60 days. Then, he found a ride for her for me. I made a great friend and he did an

Hallie Hanssen & uX Kimmitted Ta Fame Lock up $29,089 at Classic Equine Brn4D Slot FuturityBy Tanya randall Hallie Hanssen celebrated her escape from the brutal cold of her Hermosa, S.D., home with a Classic Equine BRN4D Slot Futurity Championship aboard UX Kimmitted Ta Fame (“Koko”), a 4-year-old home-bred for longtime futurity players Marlin and Jinx Maude of Hermosa. Koko is by all-time leading barrel horse sire Dash Ta Fame out of the Frenchmans Guy mare UX Frenchmans Kimmie. “Koko’s mom Kimmie was one of my very first futurity horses,” noted Hanssen. “She was a really fun, gritty little mare. Crossed on Dash Ta Fame, it just gives her more speed but still that grittiness. She was such a fun mare so it’s been cool to ride her baby.” Hanssen said that Koko has many of the same mannerisms as her mother when she’s on the ground too. “Kimmie liked to pace. Her colts that I’ve ridden will do that occasionally if they’re bored.

It’s really funny, because they’ll hold their head to the side as the go down the fence. As far as when you’re running them, Koko is all business and Kimmie was like that.” Hanssen started riding Koko in the fall of her second year. “I put like 60 days on her,” she said. “I sent her home and I got her back in April or May of her 3-year-old year and have pretty much had her ever since then.” Koko started her barrel racing career at the BFA World Champi-onship Futurity in Oklahoma City last December. She made her de-but with a $12,500 fifth-place finish in the Super Stakes and stayed steady to place 15th in the Juvenile Futurity. Thanks to the early success, Hanssen was confident in the mare going into the Classic Equine BRN4D Futurity, held Jan. 5-8 in Buckeye, Ariz. Classic Equine Slot race Continued on Page 2

“I knew she would do pretty well in these bigger pens, but I didn’t know for sure how well,” she said. “She’s fairly solid, but by the time you say that, they’re bound to do something goofy.” Hanssen and Koko were fifth in the first go with a 17.458. “The first go I was draw 29 so I was out early,” Hanssen ex-plained. “I feel like out here that kind of makes a difference because the ground seems to be a little bit heavier in the morning. She had a pretty good run. She was a little bit “steppy,” where her footwork wasn’t quite where it normally was. I felt like if she cleaned that up, she would be a little bit better.” They came back and second go with the fastest time of the futurity, a 17.104, to win the round and the $20,000 first-place check in the Slot Futurity, which was determined by the fastest of the two go-round runs amongst the eligible horses. Their two-run total was good enough for second in the Futurity average as well. “The next day when they reversed the order, I was towards the end. Her run was pretty much flawless. She worked outstanding,” said Hanssen. She wanted to thank the Maudes and her sponsors as well as her family for their help and support. “I would like to thank my husband, Lee, for all the hard work he does to keep my horses running her best,” she said. “I would also like thank my parents, Monte and Teresa Melvin, and the girl that works for me at home, Kendra Johnson. They stay at home in South Dakota and take care of my place up there so I can be gone to the futurities.” Hanssen and Koko have the Greg Olson Memorial this weekend in Buckeye before heading to Texas to await the LG Pro Classic in Kinder, La., and The Patriot in Fort Worth.

absolutely wonderful job.” Hall put Cali up for sale in the summer of her third year. “I had her loping and cruising (the pattern) pretty good, and by Fort Smith (May of 2016), I put her on Facebook to sell her for $15,000. No one even commented on her. I just kept going with her and she kept getting better and better,” she said. “I had one lady come to look at all my colts. She rode her the very last. She said, ‘This is the one I want to buy, but there’s no way I could stay on her.’” The horse that no one was interested in ran the second fastest time of the BFA Super Stakes in her debut run, but slipped and caught the third barrel leaving it. In the Juvenile, Cali and Hall had a solid first run, but slipped again in the second round. “She ran a 15.8 in the first of the juvenile and I thought that was really solid,” said Hall. “So, I was really going for it in the second round. She slipped at the first and snapped back on the same side of it.” Hall regrouped and had “a little more determination” at Edna. After making an adjustment during the Texas Extreme Barrel Clas-sic the weekend before, Hall found a way to help the mare find her footing and leave the barrels clean. “I just need to keep that shoulder lifted up a little bit more because she just wants to come back,” said Hall, who noted that the mare she bought for extreme speed, turns like a Dash Ta Fame. “She has that move on the backside. The second go (of the Ex-treme), she ran a .5 and placed fifth in the round. I just shaped her a little bit more on the backside.” For the first round of the Isabella Quarter Horses Futurity, all horses entered in the Slot Futurity ran in a separate section at 7 o’clock on Friday night. “I just went for it,” she said. “I knew I was coming off a run—that 16.51—so I knew she could get down there pretty deep. I just focused on riding her up in the hole and giving her that room that she needs on the backside. It worked out. I still can’t believe she ran a .3, but she did.” Running the 16.370 gave Hall a little wiggle room on her second run to where she could focus on being clean. She and Cali were a 16.793 to place 12th in the round and win the average. Following the Ultimate Texas Barrel Classic, Hall headed to Odessa, Texas, for the Sandhill Stock Show & Rodeo. She ran Go Go Fame, who won the Derby Average at the Texas Extreme Barrel Classic, in slack on Monday afternoon. Hall also let two-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier Sarah Mc-Donald jump ride Bulleva, her 2015 Diamonds & Dirt Slot Futurity Champion that she co-owns with Brad Oesch. As of this writing, McDonald and Bulleva were placing fifth. From Odessa, Hall headed to Buckeye, Ariz., for the Greg Olson Memorial. She plans on staying through the Pac West Barrel Race before heading back to Texas to run at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

“I always kind of go to the ones that are convenient in the sched-ule,” Hall said of her limited rodeo schedule. “I’ve always wanted to rodeo for at least one year in my life, but it always seems like when I do go and things go well, the horse sells. So, I just go back and make another one. Now, I own a lot of what I’m riding so I have a little more opportunity to go if I wanted to . . . “but, I’ve got some really nice 3-year-old and I want to train them too,” she added. “I’m very fortunate that I get to throw my leg over the horses that I do. It’s very much a blessing.”

By Tanya randall The great mare Fire Water Fanny has produced another futu-rity champion with Mimis On Firewater’s Classic Equine BRN4D Futurity Championship. Ridden by Jordan Bassett of Dewey, Ariz., for Butch and Stephanie Webb of Isabel, S.D., Mimi won $19,003 between the futurity championship and a reserve championship fin-ish in the Slot Futurity. Bred by Harry and Vivian Blackwell of Naylor, Mo., Mimi is by all-time leading barrel horse sire Dash Ta Fame. Her dam Fire Water Fanny, the daughter of Fire Water Flit out of Jerris Surprise, by My Ole Dell, carried the Blackwell’s daughter Amanda Clayman to the National Finals Rodeo. The 5-year-old palomino mare is a full sister to futurity champion Famousfirewater Anny, ridden by Chris Coffey, and a half-sister to Molli Montgomery’s 2016 futurity standouts Feelinthefirewater and Heavenly Firewater. Mimi was purchased as an embryo and foaled out at Schiller Ranch in Bryan, Texas. She was started under Latricia Duke’s pro-gram before being sold to Vickie Adams, who owned the late great Fire Water Flit, as a coming 3-year-old. The Webbs bought the mare in the middle of her third year and sent her to Ashley Schafer. Bassett started riding her in this past winter. “She was loping the pattern when I got her,” said Bassett. “I knew from the minute I threw a leg over her that she was my style, my type of horse. It was perfect match. She’s a bigger mare, which I like, but she wants to turn like a little horse. It was pretty easy from the start.” Bassett and Mimi won the first round with a 17.145 on a WPRA

the first awesome. She might have overturned it a hair, which caused her to be a little far out going into the second. That’s always a scary though with her, because she rolls back really hard. That was in the back of my mind. I just thought get around it on the back-side. We rocked it, but it stayed up thankfully. When you work so hard to get around one, you think, you have to get around the next one. So, I made sure I got around it.” Their second run of 17.325 placed fifth in the round, which was won by Classic Equine BRN4D Slot Futurity Winners Hallie Hans-sen and UX Kimmitted Ta Fame with a 17.104. “My game plan was to be smooth and ride quiet,” she explained. “I’m an aggressive rider, but I’ve learned here recently that this mare likes for you to ride quiet. I made a few adjustments before this weekend, so I just thought ride quiet, ride square and get

around them. I rode a little too far by the third and I knew that was going to get me into trouble. I had to lift my leg, but we got lucky and got around them.” This was the second futurity for the pair. They had previously run at the BFA World Championships in Oklahoma City at the first of December. As a 5-year-old futurity horse, Mimi had to make her competitive debut competing against 4-year-olds that had been campaigned all year. “She clocked really well, but I caught barrels on the backside on her,” she said. “That’s what I worked on when I got home—getting her around them and keeping them standing.” One of the adjustments Bassett made was simply taking off her spurs. “When I ran across the pen at BFA, she was swapping leads go-ing across there,” she explained. “I think it was from her feeling my spurs on each side of her. The minute I took those off she got solid as the day is long.” Bassett and Mimi will run in Buckeye again this weekend at the Greg Olson Memorial. Afterward, they will take a small break before heading to Texas for the futurities with the Patriot and Dia-monds & Dirt.

Two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, 2016 RFD-TV’s The American Champion and multiple Barrel Horse news Equi-Stat 1D Horse of the Year, Fame Fling N Bling, passed away on January 2. She was just 11. Her grieving teammate, caretaker and beloved friend Sarah Mc-Donald shared the news via Facebook after her passing, writing Bling was the most magical horse. Her color was one in a million and it changed with the seasons. She made all my dreams come true and won the hearts of many. We gave 110% and performed off of each other’s energy. She loved competing in front of the big crowds as much as I loved being on her back. She fought hard with that huge heart of hers and pulled runs out when our backs were against the wall. She was a champion!! Most of all, she was my best friend. She taught me so many lessons and picked me up countless times. There is not a day I won’t think of her and I will carry her in my heart forever. Sweet Bling, I smile when I think of all the ways you have blessed me and others! What a huge blessing you were and always will be to my family and I!! I promise I will give your babies the best chance and life they can have! I see you in all of them and that is so special. Thank you for the best rides of my life and the feeling of being on your back will forever be in my soul. I’m so thankful for the memories we have and the time we got to spend together. Rest in peace sweet girl. I hope to ride you again one day. I love you Bling. Bling was purchased as a yearling for $8,500 at the Fulton Perfor-mance Horse Sale in 2007 from her breeder Shannon Akerstrom’s Western 37 Barrel Horses in Potter Valley, Calif. Akerstrom pur-chased the Dash Ta Fame, Sold Short mare, Short Penny, specifi-cally to breed to A Streak Of Fling, a son of Streakin Six that her friend Jerry Sipes spoke of very highly. The result of that pairing was Bling. Larry Ammons partnered with his longtime friend, Stephen Mc-Donald, to purchase Bling. After breaking the mare as a 2-year-old, the elder McDonald had his doubts that Bling would make a barrel horse because she was on the hotter side. After a lengthy vacation, Sarah asked if she could take Bling to a barrel race. The younger

McDonald and Bling won their first race together and never looked back.“I finished her, taking her to little weekend shows,” Sarah said after winning the Fiddler’s Turkey Run in 2011. “She was very hyper and always jumpy. One day the light bulb turned on and she won one of the little shows and she’s been winning ever since.” Sarah and Bling won nearly every major 1D Championship in the Southeast, from the NBHA President’s Cup to the All-American Youth. In 2014, Sarah decided to test the professional rodeo waters and ended up winning the WPRA Rookie of the Year title and nar-rowly missing their first WNFR. “I got permit and filled at the end of February, first of March,” Sarah recalled after winning the Fort Worth Stock Show in 2014. “I got my permit thinking that I would season Bling and see how it went. We ran about every open horse show there is—NBHA and the big open shows in the Southeast, and she had done really good at those. I just felt like she needed the opportunity to do something else. We had just gone to some circuit rodeos and had about $8,000 won before he we left July 5 (the head out West). I think Casper, Wyo., was our first rodeo. She just kept doing really good, so I kept entering. It just all fell into place, like it was meant to be, so I kept going with it. She loves the crowd; she loves the crowd more than I thought she would.” They wowed the crowd with their stellar performance at their first WNFR in 2015. Sarah and Bling took home three gold buckles and finished third in the WPRA World Standings. They returned again in 2016 and finished 10th in the World. Bling ran out more than $750,000 during her short life and leaves a legacy of four foals, all born via embryo transfer. Sarah is cur-rently riding the oldest two—Sheza Flingn Corona, a 4-year-old mare by Cowboys Cartel and the buckskin stallion Blings Smooth Guy, a 4-year-old by A Smooth Guy. Bling also produced the 3-year-old mare Frenchgirlgotbling, by Frenchmans Guy, and the 2-year-old stallion Bling Fire N Moon, by Firewater Canyon. The gritty red roan mare will forever be missed by her family and the countless barrel racing fans who marveled at the athletic part-nership between her and Sarah.

Future Fortunes Expands rosterCourtesy of Mary Ellen Hickman FF has always been willing to try new things. When we intro-duced the Open 4D into our Bonus Money program, it was met with controversy. Stallions dropped from the program. Breeders said they would never enroll another horse in Future Fortunes. At that time we paid out $100,000. The 2017 payout will be over $820,000 in cash at 66 events. We survived the Open Division con-troversy even when some were sure it would destroy us. The FF Stallion waiting list, while it was an asset in creating our program, has turned into a liability. Future Fortunes currently has 270 Stallions in the program for 2017. We are still on the 2010 wait-ing list with over 150 stallions. Unless we added a significant num-ber of new stallions, the chance for an owner to get their stallion into Future Fortunes was low. The cloud of doubt over how the waiting list worked questioned the integrity of our program. This will eliminate any question. There are NO CHANGES for currently enrolled stallions. New stallion owners will be allowed to nominate their stallion by downloading a NEW STALLION ONLY Enroll-ment Form from our website. Nominations for new stallions will be accepted from March 15 to May 15 each year prior to the year of enrollment. Stallion Reports from a Breed Association showing a minimum of 25 mares covered (NOT per year or registered foals) along with a $500 nomination fee should be included. The balance of $2300 will be due September 15 of the year prior to enrollment. Future Fortunes was created to help the barrel racing industry.

This goal has never changed. It has governed every decision we have ever made. Open” returns to aT&T Stadium Feb. 19 RFD-TV’s The American presented by Polaris RANGER returns to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on February 19, as the home of the Dallas Cowboys hosts the world’s richest one-day rodeo for the fourth time. With a total purse of $2 million dollars, The American among the top rodeos in North America. Winners and the runners-up in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping (both heading and heeling), saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding win a share of $1 million prize money. There’s also an extra $1 million bonus purse and $250,000 in prizes. Top rodeo athletes from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Elite Rodeo Athletes, Women’s Professional Rodeo Association and Professional Bull Riders have accepted invitations to compete at The American on February 19. The American’s unique “U.S. Open” format means that any com-petitor is eligible to try to qualify for The American Semi-Finals. There are no age or gender restrictions. Qualifying events are held across the U.S. with winning competitors advancing to The Ameri-can Semi-Finals, where top finishers punch their tickets for The American. More than 600 qualifiers are scheduled to compete February 14-17 at Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth. The semi-finals on its own features a purse of $1 million, putting it among the top 10 richest rodeos annually and making it the richest rodeo open to non-professional competitors. A three-day western festival runs concur-rently with The American Semi-Finals in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards area. Those semi-finalists who earn the right to compete at AT&T Stadium are eligible for a share of the extra $1 million bonus. That’s the reward if they are able to win their event, by besting the other qualifiers and the top-ranked, professional invitees. The bonus is divided among all qualifiers who win The Ameri-can, but only three qualifiers have managed to win an event at The American in the past three years. Richmond Champion became the first cowboy to win more than $1 million for a single, eight-second bareback ride at The American in 2014, the first time it was held. He became an instant millionaire by virtue of one eight-second ride at the age of 21. Not only are contestants at The American competing against rodeo’s best human athletes, in the bareback, bronc and bull riding they will face top bucking horses and bulls in the world. Award-winning rodeo companies from across the country will bring their featured animals to match against The American contestants. It all makes for a record-setting week in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex with four days of The American Semi-Finals in Fort Worth, followed by the PBR’s Iron Cowboy VII on February 18 at AT&T Stadium and The American on February 19. Equestrian Organizations to Take Part in Inaugural Parade On January 20th, the transfer of power in Washington, DC officially begins with the traditional Inaugural Parade. Over 3,000 organizations applied to march in the parade, with only 40 being selected. Of those 40, nine of them are equine organizations. “We are pleased to see the equine community being well repre-sented during the Inaugural Parade,” said American Horse Council President Julie Broadway. “Equines were an integral part of the foundation of the United States, and Presidents throughout history have appreciated and admired the grandeur of the horse.” The most recognized equines in the parade will be the Caisson Platoon from Fort Myer, VA. In addition to their well-known, sol-emn duty of military funerals, the Caisson Platoon also participates

in numerous historic processions performed by the Old Guard, as well as the notable honor of being included in Presidential Inaugu-ral Parades. The Michigan Multi-Jurisdiction Mounted Police Drill Team & Color Guard, from Ann Arbor, MI, will be participating in the Inaugural Parade for the third time. The Michigan Horse Council (MHC) will also be well represented, as MHC President Col. Don Packard, US Army Retired, will carry the MHC flag in the parade. This is also the first time a person not a member of mounted law enforcement has ridden with the group. “We are excited to be com-ing to Washington, DC,” said Col. Packard. “There are 23 riders in this group, and they are bringing along a support staff of another 20 people who are also honored to be a part of such a historic event.” The 1st Infantry Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard of Ft. Riley, KS will also be participating in this year’s Inaugural Parade. Established in 1992, the Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard (CMCG) provides a link to Fort Riley’s historic past. Troopers and horses of this unit are outfitted in the uniforms, ac-cessories and equipment of the Civil War period. From privates to officers, these men and women recreate American Horse Soldier at community events, parades, and official ceremonies. At the AHC’s recent Coalition of State Horse Council’s Fall meeting in October, the CMCG did a demonstration for meeting attendees at Kansas State University and then a short meet/greet with Q&A about their program. The AHC looks forward to seeing all of the equestrian organi-zations with the distinct honor of participating in the parade. Cloverdale rodeo youth Initiative Foundation to expand grants and community support for 2017 2017 is anticipated to be a strong year for one of Surrey’s most dynamic charitable organizations, the Cloverdale Rodeo Youth Initiative Foundation (CRYIF). The organization, founded in 2015 as the philanthropic arm of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair organization supports youth in Surrey and the Lower Fraser Valley with financial aid and resources. Additionally, CYIF supports other worthy charities in the community who embrace similar goals to the Foundation. “The Cloverdale Rodeo Youth Initiative Foundation raised money throughout the year in order to grant a number of signifi-cant scholarships to outstanding Surrey youth,” says Foundation Board Chair Nicole Reader. “Additionally, we are proud to have made donations to some charities whose work in our community is nothing short of outstanding. Those charities include Ronald McDonald House at Surrey Memorial Hospital the Centre for Child Development and Sophie’s Place.” The CRYIF incorporates a number of unique aspects, including giving volunteer opportunities for young people at the organiza-tions’ marquee event, the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair. “Recognizing and celebrating some of the many outstanding young people who give so much of themselves and their time to support this city is incredibly rewarding,” says Reader. In 2016 the Cloverdale Rodeo Youth Initiative Foundation awarded three $1000.00 scholarships to Surrey high school graduates Taylor Mon-astersky, Owais Ghory and Harsuman Benipal. “All three of these recipients were incredibly deserving, everyone in Surrey should be proud of these young people. Each of these three recipients achieved strong academic performance while donating hundreds of hours to events and charities in our city.” For 2017 the Foundation will be unveiling a number of fundrais-ing events in the city. The priorities will continue to focus on youth outreach and initiatives, and the organization expects to expand both its scholarship grants and community support.

Super Saturday showcases rodeo’s best at national WesternBy Susan Kanode Super Saturday at the National Western Stock Show Rodeo has been a tradition for rodeo fans for the past six years. It started on the opening day of the stock show with 10 contes-tants on the Cinch Jeans World team competing in bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, women’s barrel racing and bull riding. Then during the matinee 10 more competed on the Centu-rylink’s Colorado team. Four from each team advanced to Saturday evening’s Showdown. To be part of the World team, contestants were invited to repre-sent rodeos in North Platte, Neb.; Guymon, Okla.; Rapid City, S.D.; Cheyenne, Wyo.; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Calgary, Alberta; Dodge City, Kan.; San Angelo, Texas; and Houston, Texas. For the Colorado team, three contestants represented the Na-tional Western Stock Show Rodeo in each event. Additionally, the following rodeos participated: Loveland; Pueblo, Greeley; Estes Park; Elizabeth; Colorado Springs. To complete the 10-person ros-ter, a contestant was invited to fill a wild card spot. In the final round of Saturday night’s Shootout, it was one contestant from each team competing head to head for the title. It was no surprise to rodeo fans here to see Richmond Champion take the bareback riding title. He has won this event three out of the six years that it has been held. This year, Champion came here from his home in Dublin, Texas to compete for the Pioneer Days Rodeo at Guymon, Okla. He ad-vanced to Saturday night’s performance in the final spot and made the most of his opportunity. “I love Denver,” Champion said. “It’s the first big rodeo of the year and I’ve always done well here, from this event to the pro rodeo, Denver has been really good to me.” Bull rider Roscoe Jarboe was the big winner on Saturday tak-ing home $11,200 for 24 seconds of work in front of the fans in the Denver Coliseum. Jarboe, from New Plymouth, Idaho was the only man to ride all three of his bulls. Jarboe was competing on the world team as well, representing the Cheyenne, Wyo., Frontier Days Rodeo, which he won last July. Other winners were steer wrestler Luke Branquinho from Los, Alamos, Calif., who was invited to fill the Colorado team, saddle bronc rider Jesse Wright from Milford, Utah, who competed for San Angelo, Texas, and barrel racer Kellie Collier, from Hereford, Texas, who was on the Colorado team for Pueblo. The 111th National Western Stock show will see a cross-cultural event in the Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza in the Denver Coliseum on Sunday. Our grandkids came over the other day to see us. We were down in the arena with friends. And as usual, Cylee, the 5 year old, wanted to ride. Since I was riding the one she

usually gets on, Papa thought it would be okay if she sat on one of the others……….any parent, grandparent knows what’s going to happen here, don’t you? Well….Papa and Daddy were talking….and not paying attention…when something spooked the horse and she took off and dumped Cylee on the ground…..sigh. She is a really tough little squirt. She jumped up! Threw her arms out like she was calling a base runner safe and yelled twice, “I’M OKAY! I’M OKAY!” and then she started crying……I nearly did, too. Papa and Daddy looked like someone punched them in the gut and it was pretty quiet around there for a while. We got all settled down and I put her on Poppy, the gentle one, and we walked around for a while. She said, “Gram, I don’t like Papa’s saddle, it’s too slick and I can’t stay on.” Then, “And Gram, I REALLY don’t like Papa’s horse!” Life. Sometimes it just sneaks up on us and dumps us on the ground! Unexpected bills. Horse injuries. Health issues. Strained

relationships. Happens to all of us. What do we do about it? Well, if we know Jesus, we jump up and yell, “I’M OKAY! I’M OKAY!” Because Jesus has the answers to all those lumps and bumps! And He can get us over, under, around or through whatever has come against us. His Word is loaded with promises to stand on! Later I asked Cylee if she was okay and she said, “Ya Gram. My head has a bump (it didn’t), my arm hurts a little and I hurt my fat rolls…….” I said…..”Your FAT rolls?” (She has none). “What fat rolls?” She thumped her hand on her quads and said, “Right here!” Sigh.
