Principal’s Update
The first week back is officially behind us. It was a very calm week. As we walked around class-rooms, we saw you going where you left off. We must continue to work hard for our students and continue to get them to produce amazing results. All students were addressed at the class meetings. Emphasize what was discussed. Dress code: blue, khaki, or black pants. (No jeans until attendance increases). Polo shirts: Blue, grey or white. Jackets, hoodies and pull overs allowed to be worn at all times must be navy blue, grey, or a Clarke Spirit or AHS Spirit. All oth-ers must be taken off or unzipped to show the polo shirt. Emphasize to students owner-ship of their own grades, and their ability to finish strong. Always remind them of how to behave in the classroom and outside of the classroom. Your continued support in the hallways during transition is important. This semester will keep moving at lightning speed. Use all of the time you have with the students in the classroom efficiently and effec-tively. Together as a team, we will experience success with our stu-dents. Week at a Glance: Out 1/9/18 in the AM

We are happy to be back and pick up where we left off to start the new year. El Dorado high school Architecture Acade-my presentation for 8th grad-ers will be on Wednesday, Jan 10th in the commons. We will resume study skills on Tuesday and focus group on Wednesday during Super School. Teachers, you can help by referring those who can benefit from study skills in any way. Finally, here are a few study habits students should develop to be more academi-cally successful: 1. Don't attempt to cram all
your studying into one session. Successful students typically space their work out over shorter periods of time and rarely try to cram all of their studying into just one or two sessions.
2. Plan when you're going to study. Successful students schedule specific times throughout the week when they are going to study -- and then they stick with their schedule.
3. Study at the same time. It's important you create a consistent, daily study rou-tine. When you study at the same time each day and each week, you're studying will become a regular part of your life.

First Week Blues” it hap-
pens! Usually after a long lay
off, coming back is tough. Espe-
cially when it’s for only 3 days
of instruction. I know in our
case, this week was demanding.
But , you had it tougher than
we did. You had to get the kids
geared up for the long trek
ahead of us, and you have to
get “in shape” for this trek.
What I speak to are the prepa-
rations for Saturday school,
TELPAS and STAAR.
The upside to all this is that
you have beautifully laid the
foundation with the students
the first semester. We can ob-
serve their willingness to stay
on point, address tasks encum-
bered by you, and take owner-
ship of their actions and re-
sponsibilities.
Needless to say, all the
positives have been because
you have stepped up in a big
way. For this, we are grateful
that you are meeting the chal-
lenge and taking it to the next
level. Forge on, we got your
back!
Teacher Tip: In a classroom, assigning seats can be the difference between a lesson running like a well-oiled machine or like a day at the zoo. Sometimes we focus so much on developing top notch lessons; we forget to create a learning environment that will allow for our lessons to be effective. Something to take into consideration: when we allow students to choose their own seats, most of the time, they make their decisions for social reasons. When a teacher strategically assigns seats, they do it for academic reasons and as a form of classroom management.
-Kat’s out on January 10th for a training; Tiffany is out on January 11th for training.
