The smiles said it all when Ross and

Maree Patterson were handed their

$2,000 buyer referral cheque from

Halcyon Waters Project Director, Marie

Cone recently. The Pattersons, who

hail from Mermaid Waters were so

impressed with Halcyon Waters that

they recommended Ross’s parents, Jeff

and Kathleen Patterson, who purchased

a magnificent Terrace home overlooking

the Parklands. The Patterson Juniors

coincidently were initially referred to

Halcyon Waters themselves and had not

even moved in when they referred their

parents. As for the $2,000 cheque, they

plan to spend it on some new pieces for

their home and keep spreading the word

about Halcyon. Marie Cone with Maree and Ross Patterson

Hope Island and the North Shore

Dating back as far as 25 years ago when

Sanctuary Cove first opened, Hope Island

on the Gold Coast’s North Shore was

always destined for something special.

Surrounded by water and renowned as

a recreational paradise, Hope Island has

grown to be one of the most desirable

suburbs in South-East Queensland. With

easy access to Brisbane via the M1, Hope

Island promises a lifestyle that’s second

to none. Neighbours include Sovereign

Islands and Ephraim Island, which are some

of Australia’s most valuable residential real

estate locations. The region is a mecca for

discerning retirees and boasts no less than

three golf courses.

In November 2010, the Hope Island Town

Centre site and the adjoining Marina

Quays Tavern was purchased by one of

Australia’s largest development companies,

Walker Corporation and construction is

expected to commerce in 2011. The town

centre will reportedly comprise a full range

supermarket, retail outlets, restaurants and

cafés, a tavern as well as a range of high end

fashion stores.

Walker Corporation Chief Executive and

renowned developer, Lang Walker said he

was ready to start his $80 million project.

“We see the acquisition of the site and our

plans for a major mixed-use precinct as a

strategic foray into a high-growth area with

existing infrastructure and huge potential. It

is one of the most significant sites on the

Gold Coast and it deserves an innovative

development,” he said.

recent research that was compiled by

Prdnationwide in the last quarter of

2010 shows that in terms of $1,000,000

plus sales, Hope island has recorded the

highest volume with 39 transactions.

The North Shore is home to some of the

Gold Coast’s most prestigious homes and

apartments, offering various living options

ranging from a standard suburban home

on a dry block to canal front, golf course

frontage, lake front, Broadwater fronting

properties and island living.

Road to good healthOnly weeks remain until completion

of the road and walkways to the

soon to be developed Hope Island

Town Centre. This linkage will allow

Halcyon Waters home owners to

easily walk, bike or drive to the

Town Centre and future Hope

Island Health Precinct.

Development of the Hope Island

Health Precinct also remains on

track. Chairman of Hope Island

Care and Managing Director of

Halcyon Days Pty Ltd, Dr. Bevan

Geissmann is confident the progress

of infrastructure to the approved

medical centre and residential

care facility will further highlight

the evolution of the Hope Island

Master Plan. “The planning, delivery,

integration and quality of all elements

of the Hope Island Master Plan will

benefit local residents for many years

to come. These developments we

are seeing now will not only provide

financial, but also lifestyle and health

benefits to those who live in the

Hope Island Precinct,” he said.

“When we told our children that we were

moving to Halcyon Waters they told us we

were too young to move here. Now they

joke about moving here themselves and tell

us we’ve never looked so happy.” To say

that Rob Walshe and Chrissy Chapman are

loving their new life here at Halcyon Waters

would be an understatement. The fun loving

couple settled into the North Shore lifestyle

community for over 50’s immediately. “We’d

only been living here a matter of a few

weeks when we were invited to grab a chair,

some drinks and join in an impromptu street

party. We found that everyone says hello

here, and we’ve met lots of new friends with

similar interests,” said Chrissy. “Plus no one

has to be the designated driver, it’s so easy

to stroll back from the Leisure Club or back

home from a friend’s house,” she added.

Rob agreed, “If you live in the suburbs

you may never even meet most of your

neighbours. Here it’s different. Your

neighbours are basically your close friends.”

Both still working, the couple lead a full

social life that includes regular dinners out

with friends from Halcyon Waters at some

of the many restaurants and Bistros that

dot the North Shore region.

Both are involved in various community

groups with Chrissy partial to the gym and

water aerobics to name a few. In fact right

after they were interviewed Chrissy was

off to play Mahjong with friends while Rob

went home (presumably for a breather)

before both had plans to meet up again

for a weekly movie date with friends in the

private cinema.

Along with the social side of things both

Rob and Chrissy enjoy getting out into

nature for early morning walks with the

Chrissy Chapman & Rob Walshe

family dog. The duo also enjoy cycling

around Halcyon Waters smooth wide

streets and natural parklands.

Originally from Sydney before moving

to The Gap in Brisbane, the story of

Rob and Chrissy's decision to choose

Halcyon Waters involved the exhaustive

researching of every retirement and

lifestyle community on the Gold Coast and

the Sunshine Coast. “After visiting all the

others we thought we’d have a second

look at Halcyon Waters and that was it.

We were sold, this is the place for us and

we love it!” said Rob.

Having lived on half an acre in a huge six

bedroom home with a massive pool, Rob

is relishing the fact their new home with

its alfresco terrace takes about 20 minutes

to maintain, which is a good thing when you

Never too young for Halcyon...

think of their busy social schedule. Being

used to a lot of space the couple are

delighted with their brand new Terrace

home on Shearwater Circuit with its

private outdoor space and bushland views.

The close proximity of nature suits Rob

perfectly who has swapped the alarm clock

for the sounds of the local kookaburra

family to wake to.

Asked if they are happy with their decision

to move to Halcyon Waters, both Rob

and Chrissy say they have absolutely no

regrets and that living here has exceeded

their expectations.

Pretty as a picture

Halcyon Waters home owners joined

the thousands of Queenslanders and

interstate volunteers who all pitched in to

lend a hand to victims of the devastating

Queensland floods. Home owner and

retired fireman, Graham Flack organised

a group of willing volunteers to assist

friends whose home at Westlake in

Brisbane was inundated by flood waters

up to 1.7 metres. The Halcyon Waters

community bus was commandeered and

loaded up with all sorts of equipment

including shovels, gumboots, gurneys and

some sandwiches for the workers.

In another act of kindness, home owner

Ian Pedersen joined forces once again

with Graham Flack to organise another

working bee to travel to Brisbane River

Terraces, an over 50’s community in

Goodna, to help with the big mop up the

day after the floods receded.

The streetscapes and gardens at

Halcyon Waters have taken on a life

of their own after recent rains and

subsequent sunshine. Only a few years

down the track, and already you can see

the results of the meticulous planning

by Halcyon’s design team and landscape

architects. Home owners pride in their

gardens is also quite evident when you

take an early morning stroll around the

spacious community. Here feet and

cycles really do rule the street as you

pass by garden after garden of natural

beauty. With the gardens looking so

spectacular the rumour is that there will

be a Halcyon garden competition soon.

We’ll keep you posted on the details.

Meanwhile take a good look at this

Aussie Day... the Halcyon way

Halcyon profile - Sue StevensAlready a firm favourite with the home

owners, Halcyon Waters new Community

Manager, Sue Stevens is a welcome addition

to the team. Sue’s colourful, professional

history includes; managing a business that

manufactured sportswear which produced

garments for the Commonwealth Games; real

estate; and managing, building, and owning a

luxury home stay amongst other things.

A former triathlete and elite outrigger

canoeist, Sue has competed in the famous

gruelling Forster Triathalon and in the

infamous Hamilton Island Outrigger Cup

(and subsequent after parties). An injury

whilst competing in a cross country race

followed by a car accident put paid to Sue’s

love of extreme athletics, however her

passion for life hasn’t slowed down a beat.

Sue’s favourite hobby is renovating houses

and creating gardens. A member of a

Australia Day is always a special day

at Halcyon Waters and 2011 had an

extra special meaning for all 180 home

owners, family and friends who celebrated

together. Along with all the fun, games

and good times, the community raised

$2,600 for the Lions Club flood relief

fund. The monies were raised by home

owners and local businesses who all

pitched in to supply raffle prizes. The

Halcyon Singers provided the goosebumps

with a heartfelt medley of Aussie greats,

followed by popular vocalist Julie Jackson,

who sang a variety of songs. Everyone

tucked into hamburgers, chocolate coated

ice creams, and a few chilled wines and

cold beers were enjoyed throughout

the day, and into the afternoon. Halcyon

Waters annual “Australian of the Year”

was bestowed upon Doug Naumann who

accepted the crown from 2010 winner

Kevin Maggs.

Sue Stevens, Community Manager

Southport choir, (watch out Halcyon

Singers) Sue loves to travel, partake in water

aerobics, meditation, and has a Certificate in

Aromatherapy, and even holds Certificates I,

II and III in Reiki!

Sue lives on a 15 acre rural property

with partner Bruce, family dog Irwin the

Schoodle and Mikey, the world’s bravest cat

(but that’s another story). Most definitely a

‘people person’ Sue loves a good chuckle,

has a great sense of humour and is excited

about her new role as Community Manager

at Halcyon Waters.
