Domingue Toussaint (Toussaint L’Ouverture) was born a slave in the mid-1700’s in Haiti

His father was captured into slavery and would tell Toussaint stories of freedom

Revolution occurred and the French decided to grant freedom to all Africans and Mulattoes

In 1791, after the plantation owners whined like a bunch of 6th graders, they (the French) revoked their (the slaves) freedom
