Security, HVAC and Home Automation HAI has been manufacturing home automation solutions since 1985 and ship to over 80 countries around the world and are now a well-seasoned veteran in this arena. The complete home automation package offers security, lighting control, multi room audio, access control, blind control plus a whole load more. Security functionality fits very well with home automation solutions as there is some really useful functionality that can be achieved by integrating the security into the home automation. For example, when the alarm is armed in Away mode the system knows there is no one in the house so internal lights and the audio and the TVs can be switched off and the heating can be set back to an away temperature automatically. When a particular user comes home and disarms the alarm then the house can be setup to that users preferences. Additionally, each room is normally equipped with PIRs and external doors have door sensors which, on conventional installations, only ever get used when the alarm is armed. When integrating security with the home automation these sensors can be used for useful automation tasks; such as, turning lights off in a room when they have been turned on but no motion has been detected for half an hour, this helps to save on energy. Another automation task might be to switch the porch light on for 10 minutes if the front door is opened and it is dark outside. One challenge that any security manufacturer faces is complying with country specific requirements that can vary quite dramatically around the world. HAI have always had a very strong security solution built into the Omni range of HAI controllers which complies with all US requirements, however it cannot be used to obtain police response in the UK but is fine for domestic installations provided police response is not required. This challenge has now been overcome in the UK with the availability through Aldous Systems of the Lumina Security solution. As the name implies, this is used with the Lumina range of HAI controls that do not have security built in. The Lumina Security is a stand-alone hardware module that fully integrates with the Lumina controller over RS-232. It is fully compliant to EN50131 and UK requirements allowing NSI or SSAIB approved installers to gain police response and still enjoy full integration of the intruder alarm. The home automation system includes full integration with the touchscreens and iPhone/iPad and Android apps.

When a particular user comes home and disarms the alarm

then the house can be setup to that users preferences.

As

the name implies, this is used with the Lumina range of HAI controls that do not have security built in.

Lumina Security offers a wide range of sensors including both wireless and wired including PIRs, door sensors, flood detection, smoke detection and CO detection. Additionally Lumina security can provide IP messaging to a 3rd party monitoring station to provide the essential police response required for high end customers. 3rd party monitoring can be ordered through Aldous Systems so as an HAI dealer you have a one stop shop for the complete solution. Additionally some insurance policies may state the alarm system must be NSI or SSAIB approved to comply with their terms and conditions or the customer may obtain a discount on their insurance if the alarm is NSI or SSAIB approved. This can all be achieved with Lumina security if the installer is NSA or SSAIB approved, or they can subcontract the installation of the Lumina Security subsystem to an installer with these certifications. To complement the security functionality, conventional coax based CCTV cameras and IP based cameras can be integrated into the system allowing full access to the cameras from the touchscreens and the iPhone/iPad and Android apps. High resolution IP cameras that serve MJPEG are available from Channel Vision via Aldous Systems, or a 1 or 4 port camera server can be used with conventional CCTV cameras. The camera servers also have loop through connections allowing the cameras to easily be connected to a Channel Vision DVR for recording and playback.

The strengths of HAI are not just limited to security. HAI also have a very capable heating and cooling control capability. The RC1000 is a complete energy management module providing thermostat and timer clock functions in one. The RC1000 also has full two way integration with the HAI controller providing full visibility and control of each heating zone both from the HAI touchscreen and the iPhone/iPad/Android app. The RC1000 also

has a unique flush mount remote temperature sensor that can actually be buried in the wall and skimmed over providing an invisible temperature sensor in each zone. The RC-1000 provides 24v AC relays that can be wired direct to the actuators on under floor heating manifolds or can switch 240v via a relay. This allows the HAI heating control solution be compatible with any type of heating or cooling system.

For the complete home automation and energy control package we need to also make mention of lighting control. HAI offer the Omni Bus 240v lighting control solution which is a DIN rail mounted solution for dimming and switching 240v lighting circuits and is fully programmable. Again the lighting solution works as a standalone subsystem so can be used on its own or with an HAI controller. Light switches are available for UK single gang back boxes in White, Polished and Brushed Stainless Steel with 1, 2, 3 and 6 buttons. As with any lighting control system any button can be programmed to create any lighting scene wither within the room or across the whole house. However, with HAI,

any light switch button could also be programmed to control the heating, cooling, blinds, security, audio or anything under the control of the HAI system. Full two way control is also provided for Lutron Homeworks, Clipsal C-BUS and Philips Dynalite. Other manufacturer’s lighting controls systems can be easily integrated by the installer via RS-232. Using a sub system based architecture HAI have gained a reputation of high reliability. Each subsystem can operate independently of another subsystem or the main controller meaning that in the unlikely event of your main HAI controller going offline the lighting, heating, audio and security still function in their own right. This achieves high levels of reliability and provides end users with a

sense of confidence that they will not be plunged into darkness and freeze if they were to experience any issues. With the HAI main controller being proprietary hardware running HAI’s proprietary operating system, very high levels of reliability are achieved so customers can sleep peacefully at night knowing their HAI system can perform 24/7/365.

These products are available from Aldous Systems to professional installation companies.
