HACKENSACK PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2020 WINTER NEWSLETTER A Message From Superintendent Robert Sanchez I am pleased to announce that we are about to embark on a Strategic Planning initiative to help prepare our students for tomorrow’s world. The Hackensack Board of Education invites you to participate in this Strategic Planning initiative along with your neighbors, community members, friends, teachers, students, and school district administrators to create a shared vision for the future of Hackensack Public Schools. We will discuss the strengths, accomplishments, and challenges of our school district; the vision and expectations for our schools and students; and the goals and objectives necessary to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. The Strategic Planning meetings will take place over three dates: March 26th, April 22nd, and May 28th, 2020. All meetings will be held at Hackensack Middle School from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Please make sure to visit our school district website at www.hackensackschools.org/hps-future for more information regarding Strategic Planning. It is our hope that you will join us as we effectively plan for the future of our students and district. Now is your time to be heard. Moving ahead, the District continues to take a comprehensive look at our numerous facility needs. Furthermore, we are taking the necessary steps to forge ahead with the turf field installation at HMS. Expect more on this and other projects in our next newsletter. Until then, stay warm! Tuition Free Preschool for Eligible Children Hackensack is excited to announce that Tuition Free Preschool is expanding for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition to our 12 in-district classes, we are partnering with several private preschool centers in Hackensack. Preschool centers will offer the same program as our district classes, providing a smooth transition to kindergarten. If you are a Hackensack resident with a child who will be turning 4 on or before October 1, 2020, call (201) 646-1062 on March 10th between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM for an initial registration appointment. This will hold a spot for your child and provide you with an appointment time to complete your registration. Appointments will take place between March 16 - 20, with makeup appointments the week of March 23rd. Registration is first come, first served. School Musicals Hackensack High School students will be performing The Wizard of Oz starting on March 26th. Shows are March 26 - 28th at 7:00 P.M. with a matinee on Sunday the 29th at 2:00 P.M. You can purchase tickets online at: www.hackensacks.seatyourself.biz Hackensack Middle School students will be performing Aladdin-Dual Language Edition on April 1st and 2nd at 7:00 P.M. You can purchase tickets online at: http://our.show/hms-aladdindual. Come support our middle and high school students. You are in for a treat!

A Message From Superintendent Robert Sanchez I am pleased to announce that we are about to embark on a Strategic Planning initiative to help prepare our students for tomorrow’s world. Fairmount SchoolCelebrates “Hour of Code Week” to help students develop critical thinking skills and the ability to solve difficult and challenging situations and problems.

Hackensack High SchoolSeniors at Hackensack High School are racking up their college acceptances thanks to three Instant Decision Days hosted by the Guidance Department.

On January 16, 2020, the Hackensack High School Guidance Department hosted their 2nd Annual 4-Year College and University Instant Decision Day. Admission Counselors from 17 colleges and universities were in attendance to meet with students and offer them instant admission decisions. A total of 178 acceptances were offered to students, and many of the schools were able to provide scholarship offers to admitted students totaling $3.7 million over the next four years. We are so proud of the students whose hard work and dedication have paid off!

La escuela Fanny Meyer Hillers Los estudiantes de kindergarten disfrutaron escuchar un cuento leído a ellos por el superintendente Sánchez durante una nueva iniciativa de lectura escolar llamado “Cuentos con una estrella”.
