The Mashadi Cultural and Educational Committee (Higher Education Committee) would like to inform our Community’s students about the Interest-Free Mashadi Student Loan Program. The student loan program is based only on f inancial need. Student loans are for both undergraduate and post-graduate studies. All Community applicants for the 2018 Fall Semester must complete and email a loan application form, along with a scanned copy of their registered tuition bill no later than Monday, August 6, 2018. Applications can be downloaded from the UMJCA homepage at www.mashadi.org. All applications & tuition bills should be emailed to Marty Bassaly at [email protected]. All loan applications are strictly conf idential and will be reviewed by the Mashadi Higher Ed Student Loan Review Committee to determine what amount (if any) can be disbursed. Repayment of Student Loans are to be made over a 3 year period (1/3 each year) following graduation so that future Mashadi students can also receive the same assistance. NOTE: In 2010, an Education Fund was established for Post Graduates, called the Laleh Hannah Nassimi Memorial Foundation. The Foundation provides f inancial assistance to qualifying Mashadi students based on both need and merit. Funds are available for Post-Graduate studies (Masters, PhD, Law School, Med School, etc) in the United States only. The Higher Education Committee strongly encourages all qualifying Mashadi students to apply using the same application noted above.

In 2012, a Medical Fund was established for medical school students called the Dr. Mousa Hakimi Medical Scholarship Fund. For more information and separate application, please contact Jonathan LeVian at [email protected].

MYC SUMMER GETAWAY HIGHER EDUCATION COMMITTEEMASHADI STUDENT LOAN PROGRAM

Online registration for Fall 2018 UMJCA Programs will open on Wednesday, August 29th at 4:00 pm. We will be available at Ohr Esther on Wednesday, August 29th from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm for those who need assistance with online registration. The UMJCA and the Marriage Committee will be hosting a rooftop event at the Andaz hotel in Wall Street on August 1, 2018 from 7:30 to 11:30 pm for boys 28-46 and girls 25-40 with food, open bar and music. special guest Rabbi Dov from Toronto. This event will be open to the f irst 30 Mashadi boys and 30 Mashadi girls who buy tickets and will be open to the same number of select Jewish professionals from other communities. How David Met Noaby Leah Hakimian

Dr. Leah Hakimian currently researches the question: How do Jewish couples meet and marry? In the 90’s she founded two nonprofit Jewish matchmaking programs, and continues to champion the role of community in helping singles meet. She writes on a volunteer basis to inspire her readers and to encourage them to keep their “antennae up.” She resides in Jerusalem and Great Neck, New York. HaChodesh now has the privelege of sharing her stories with you.

He’s a proper Londoner who married his American girlfriend. Like Harry and Meghan, David and Noa also married in May 2018. What advice does David have for Prince Harry? “Just make it work.” David Brummer met Noa Amouyal when he joined the staff of The Jerusalem Post (Jpost) in 2014 as a reporter and sub-editor. “We were friendly, but not close in any way,” remarks Noa, who is currently the senior features editor. “It can be awkward to date a colleague working at the same paper.” About a year later, David left the Jpost. “When I came to Noa’s home for a New Year’s Eve party on December 31, 2016, I realized that everything had changed,” smiles David, who was then 38. Noa, then 32, recalls: “I made a new sangria which turned out to be extremely potent and I basically poisoned everyone at the party, myself included, but not David. He came late to the party because he had been playing soccer. When the other guests left and I was in bad shape, David helped me clean up. The next morning he offered to make me soup. We’ve been together every day since then.” The Washington Post reported in 2016: “It’s pretty common for journalists to date and marry other journalists…It helps relationships when your jobs are similar. You understand the schedules, the demands, and challenges.” Business Insider notes that “creatives love creatives.” David, currently the managing editor of Israel365, agrees. “There is never a dull moment with Noa.”
