In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful
All praise be to Allah and may peace and mercy be upon His Final Messenger and his pure family and
noble Companions.
Hā Meem College Adult Education: Syllabus, Courses and Qualifications
Preliminary statement
The seeking of knowledge of the sciences of Islam is the most noble of endeavours and pleasing in
the sight of Allah the Almighty.
The men and women of knowledge of the ummah of Sayyiduna Muhammad (upon him be peace and
mercy) are the inheritors of the Prophet and the carriers of the Light of Truth in every generation.
They are at the vanguard of the communal obligations of Da’wa, Jihad and Ijtihad.
It is only with the light of the Holy Quran and Esteemed Sunnah that we can navigate the paths and
face the challenges of our generation.
It is the mission of Hā Meem College to provide this sacred knowledge to all who desire and deserve
it.
And Allah alone gives tawfeeq.
Structure of courses at Hā Meem College
HĀ MEEM College has developed a series of modular courses to cater for all individuals. The courses
are designed to systematically develop the student’s knowledge of the various sciences of Islam and
each course builds upon the previous one.
As each course is divided into modules, the modules may be studied in any order and over any
period of time to suit the needs of individual students. Successful completion of a module (based on
3
formal or informal assessment) leads to being awarded a Certificate of Successful Completion for
that module. There is no limit to the number of times a student may repeat a particular module.
Successful completion of all the modules in a particular course plus successful completion of any
required memorisation leads to the award of the relevant qualification (see below) issued by Hā
Meem College, and endorsed by the Principal, Shaykh Dr Ridhwan ibn Saleem.
It is recommended for students to study the modules that are appropriate to their level. However,
once students have completed the Entry-level/Fardh ‘Ain Course, they may study any module at any
time for their own interest, even if it does not come within in their current course requirements.
Students are also welcome to study any modules they are interested in as a stand-alone unit of
study even if they are not interested in completing any of the courses.
Each module consists of 14 x 75 min lessons. Thus each module is a total of 17.5 hours teaching
time.
The purpose of these courses is to provide students with a structure to their study of the Islamic
Sciences and a progressive route to formal qualifications and ultimately an ʿĀlim Degree.
Courses up to and including Missionary (Expert) Level are modular in structure. Once a student has
successfully completed Missionary level, he or she is issued a Diploma to certify Expert-level in
Islamic Sciences. For those students who wish to proceed further to Scholar (ʿĀlim) level, the student
must complete the reading of a number of texts (additional to those already covered up to
Missionary level) with Shaykh Ridhwan or an affiliated/approved scholar. The required texts (and
required memorisation) are listed in the Scholar level syllabus.
The final qualification of Scholar of Islamic Sciences (Shahadah ʿĀlimiyyah) will be issued by Hā
Meem College and endorsed by Shaykh Ridhwan Saleem and our patron, al-ʿAllāmah Shaykh
Muhammad Akram Nadwi, and include a full authorisation (ijāzah) to teach the Islamic sciences.
Arabic Language
As set out in the course details below, some of the courses require a degree of proficiency in Arabic
language for successful completion. Each level of Arabic is envisaged to consist of 28 x 75 minute
lessons, i.e. 35 hours total teaching time. In addition, students would have to put time in at home for
memorising vocabulary and grammar rules. Please see the Hā Meem College Arabic syllabus for
more details.
