H2 Zoom Recorder

Operational Procedure

In the box

All H2 Zoom kits contain–1 GB SD Card–Mic Clip Adaptor–Wind Screen–Earbuds–USB Cable–AC Adaptor–Stereo Y Cable–Manual

Audio File Format

All H2 Zoom’s will be preset to record in MP3 format. At 320kb/s you will get almost 7 hours of recording time on the 1 GB SD Card.

Power

Either insert 2 AA Batteries in the rear of the unit, or use the AC Power supply. The unit can run continuously for about 4 hours on two AA alkaline batteries

Power Switch

Turn the H2 Zoom on with the power switch on the right hand side.

Microphone Setting

Make sure the H2 Zoom is set for Front 90°. If it is not use the arrows in the dark grey area to change the setting.

Record Ready Mode

Press the red record button one time to enter the record ready mode. The Play/Rec light will flash red.

Microphone Placement

Place the front side of the H2 Zoom in front of the sound source (interviewee) Try to have the microphone placed as close to the sound source without being intrusive.

Note: Project your questions toward the H2 Zoom.

Checking Levels

If you plug in the included ear buds you can monitor what you are going to record in the H2. You will also see the levels on the LCD Screen

Adjusting Levels

Make sure the Mic Gain switch is set to high.

Adjusting Levels

Only set the Mic Gain switch to medium or low if the levels on the LCD screen are reaching 0. This is also known as peaking. Average Levels should sit between -24 and -6.

Record

Press the record button again to begin recording. The Play/Rec light will turn solid red.

Playback

To hear what you have just recorded, press the play button to listen. The Play/Rec light will turn solid green.

File System

• Every time the H2 Zoom starts recording a new MP3 file is created. It increases numerically.

Navigating Recorded Files

Use the forward and back arrows next to the the record button to move forward and back through the files that you have created.

Data Transfer 1/3

• Turn off the H2 zoom. • Connect the H2 Zoom Via the USB line to your

computer.

Data Transfer 2/3

• On the H2 zoom use the forward and back buttons to the place the selection arrow beside “Storage” Press the record button to select “Storage”

• Like a USB Flash drive, the H2 Zoom will be mounted to your desktop.

• Open “H2SD” and then open “FOLDER01”• Transfer all the files contained in this folder on

to your computer.

Data Transfer 3/3

• Safely remove “H2SD”• Unplug from computer.

Edirol R1

• Similar to the H2 Zoom• Will be preset to MP3 format

Record Ready Mode

• Press REC Button once to enter record ready mode. The Rec button will begin to flash.

• Press Display button to reveal level meters

Adjust Levels

Adjust input level to prevent the audio from peaking.

Record

• Press REC button a second time to start recording. . The Rec button will turn solid red.

• Press Stop button to stop recording

Edirol R1 Be aware of

If the hold switch is on, none of the buttons will work.

Edirol R1 Data Transfer

The data transfer is similar to the H2 zoom but requires the Edirol R1’s power to be on.

Edirol R1 Be aware of

Do not turn the audio effects on. This will taint the sound of your recording. These effects, when applied to the recording, are irreversible.

Policy

All Recorders must be returned within 48 from the time they where borrowed.

You will be required to provide contact information as well as present you student ID.

Please do not make me seek you out. Repo Chris is not nearly as nice as lending Chris.
