Psalm — Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104).

Second Reading — There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit (1 Corinthi-ans 12:3b-7, 12-13) or Galatians 5:16-25.

Gospel — As the Father has sent me, so I send you: Receive the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23) or

PARISH NEWS Help Invite Catholics Back to Mass — Please join us inviting Catholics to return to Mass. Are they venturing out into public spaces such as Winn Dixie/Publix? Home Depot/Lowes? Traveling by air, going to movie theaters, friends’ homes? Although Bishop Noonan’s dispensation continues, this should not be used as an excuse to not attend Mass or receive sacraments. The dispensation is for the small percentage of population at risk.

Crowning of Mary — Perhaps for the first time in parish history, a young boy was lifted in the air by Father Andrew to crown Mary with her crown of flowers! Thanks to everyone who participated in the short prayer service and brought flowers for our Blessed Mother Mary!

Graduate’s Mass — Teens and their families are invited to celebrate one of life’s early ac-complishments at our 11am Graduate’s Mass on Sunday, May 30! Send graduation information to Monica for use in the bulletin and overhead screens to [email protected]. In-clude your name, graduation photo, High School, College or University, Diploma, Degree and Honors, future plans (more education or career/job). The sooner the better, please!

Invite family and friends now so they can make plans to attend. Mass is the greatest way to offer praise and thanksgiving to the Lord for the graces received to get graduates to this day. Grads, please wear your cap & gown. Arrive by 10:40am; gather at the back of the church to process in with Father Andrew during the Entrance hymn.

Coffee & Donuts Help — Yummy! Kids are especially happy to return to Emmaus Hall for donuts. We strive to order enough “sprinkle” donuts for them. Introduce yourself to someone you don’t recognize and welcome them to Holy Spirit (and Mims). By the way, some hospitality volunteers have moved on to other ministries. Can you help?. Volunteers are assigned one Sunday a month to help. Call Dianne in the parish office to volunteer! (321) 269-2282.

Elijah Cup — Parishioners pray for an increase to the priestly & religious vocations with the sacred vessel which once held the Precious Blood—the Elijah Cup. A booklet with suggested daily prayers is included in the case with photos for displaying the Cup in a place of honor in your home. The signup binder is in the vestibule.

This week: Saturday, May 15, 4:00pm — Cathie & Dennis McMullen Next week: Sunday, May 23, 8:30am — Wade & Siobhan Wright

Summer Bible Study — Our summer Bible study on The Acts of the Apostles begins the last week of May. Only a few spots are available for the Tuesday evening & Thursday morning sessions. Cost is $10 for the book. For more information and to sign up, contact Judy Norton ASAP at [email protected] or (321) 264-4962.

Pentecost Picnic — Sadly, our annual celebration of our patron, the Holy Spirit, is not mov-ing forward due to lack of available volunteers. We pray for a return to full participation for next year’s event!

Vacation Bible School — Date will be late July. Volunteers are needed; please call the parish office (321) 269-2282. Your name and number will be forwarded to Julie Pringle.

Anointing of the Sick — Father Andrew anoints the sick and those preparing for surgery or out-patient procedures after the 11am Mass this week (the third Sunday each month). Call the office if you know a Catholic who needs anointing in hospital, nursing home or is homebound.

Diocese & Community News From Bishop Noonan — We were asked in a recent letter to examine our consciences and to consider two questions of discernment:

1. Are you a baptized Catholic?

2. Are you leaving your home to grocery shop, visit with family and friends, or partici-pate in other activities?

If your answer to these questions is yes, then I am confused about why my dispensation is pre-venting you from participating physically in the celebration of Mass. You do not need my permis-sion to come to receive Jesus. God chose you to do so! I pray that your desire to draw near to God, to go and bear fruit that will remain, compels you to come to participate physically in the celebration of Mass to be nourished by the bread of heaven to fulfill this appointment."

God is Love Homily Summary Father Andrew Wojtan May 9, 2021

“I did not realize then how much one had to suffer to become a saint, but God soon showed me this.” - St. Thérèse of Lisieux

The Eastern Religions have a different concept of God than Christians. For them God is an im-personal, cosmic energy and humans can merge with the godhead through the technique of meditation. Through the meditation, you try to reach a state of “unity consciousness” with the Absolute. Christians understand that we are individual persons. For Eastern Religions, religion is an illusion. E.g. if I say ‘me’, it is an illusion. At the ocean, we see waves caused by the wind. Every one of these waves could say: “See, how beautiful I am.” But they are only a part of the ocean. If a drop of water splashes into the air, it has an illusion of an independent existence. Eventually, it falls back into the ocean, to become one with it again. The goal of the natural mys-tics is to unify yourself with everything. When you return into the ocean you will lose this illusion of personal ‘ME.’ How is it possible?

Buddha said: Life is suffering! Suffering comes from desires! We suffer, because we desire and our desires are not fulfilled. Stop desiring! As long as you remain an individual person, you will desire and suffer. Go out of this life; withdraw into the womb of mother nature, to completely lose your personal identity. According to experts, it is really a state of happiness.

Despite this assurance there is something missing. It is true, there is no more being, which can suffer, but there is also no being, which could love. These nature-directed ways lead to a state where we will suffer no more; but the price for this is to renounce love.

Jesus teaches that we should try to go through life with courage, carrying our cross; remember-ing that He will always help us; knowing that the last word belongs to Him.

The way of Buddha contains 12 steps. On step 5, you should renounce an illusion of love. Bud-dha teaches that hate and love support that illusion; you have to move past. If ‘You’ and ‘I’ do not exist then love does not exist either.

In the entire Bible, there is only one definition of God written by St. John: “God is love” (1J 4:8). “Love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.” (1J 4:7) Buddha: “Love is an illusion”. St. John says: “Whoever is without love does not know God” (1J 4:8). Buddha: “He who loves, is living in an illusion”. It is impossible to believe both. You must choose to believe one or the other.

The difference between the death of Buddha and Jesus. Buddha closed into himself, afraid of suffering, refusing to go forward. Jesus is crucified. You cannot be more open. “When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself. I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” From His pierced Heart there will always flow a stream of love; the Spirit of Love! Love is not an illu-sion, but the goal of our lives.

It is impossible for Christians to believe and accept that love is just an illusion. LOVE brought us Salvation! Love brings happiness to life. St. Augustine said: “My love is what gives me true val-ue”.
