April 2014

As days get longer and we start thinking ahead to another beautiful summer in Mount Hermon, we invite you to explore the exciting opportunities right here in your “back yard” —at Mount Hermon’s Conference Center. We especially encourage you to look through this booklet carefully, because we’ve made some changes in the way our summer activities are “packaged.” For example, this year we are offering a basic Resident Summer Season Package at no cost that entitles Mount Hermon residents access to activities in the Auditorium and on the Fieldhouse Meadow (excluding meals or during programmed camp activities). To participate in recreation activities (e.g., swimming pool, boats), residents are asked to register for a Resident Summer Season Package and then add this extra recreation package at an affordable cost for individuals and families. In recent years we have had to increase security due to non-resident use of our facilities. So we are asking all residents to wear their Summer Season Name Badges whenever on our grounds (e.g., the Fieldhouse Meadow, Auditorium, or in common areas). Mark your calendars! New this year -- a special Community FUN Day will be added to the festivities this summer for all residents with a Summer Season Summer Season Name Badge, Saturday, July 19, on the Fieldhouse Meadow. It will start at noon with a free picnic, followed by games and activities for all ages, ending about 4 pm. If you have any questions as you read through this information, please feel free to call me or make an appointment. Our offices are open Monday—Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Best Regards,

Alden JohansonChief Operating Officer

Redwood Camp and Ponderosa Lodge are private youth camp facilities and are not open to public or resident use. Please do not use any of the recreation facilities. Vehicles are not permitted to pass through either camp. These grounds are not a part of Mount Hermon’s trail system. To access Zayante Road, residents may go over the bridge by the Conference Center Pool, and across the “Johnson” bridge to Redwood Circle. In summer, residents may also go along the trail from the suspension bridge to the boat dam at the edge of the grounds to get to the “Johnson” bridge. The railway easement is private property owned by Roaring Camp Railway and subject to their control.

We realize you may have passed through these camps or used the meadow for personal recreation in the past, but recent Camping Codes passed by the state of California now prohibit us from allowing such access. Only adults who are subject to screening as employees are allowed on the grounds. Thank you for your cooperation.

Mount Hermon VolunteersMount Hermon residents and friends are invited to fellowship in active participation with our Mount Hermon Volunteers. Mount Hermon has many wonderful, dedicated volunteers working year–round. They are involved with painting, construction, gardening, office work, table setting, hosting meals, serving refreshments and many other tasks (including highly skilled trades and professional services). They work as groups, individuals and families to serve the Lord with their time and talents. For more information please contact Don Broesamle at 831.430.1240 or email at [email protected].

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESSUMMER DRIVERSVolunteers provide transportation for Mount Hermon speakers and musicians to and from the airport as needed. This is a fun opportunity that allows volunteers to meet and interact with well–known pastors, artists and others.

NATURE & FACILITIES TOUR GUIDEAdult volunteers are needed to lead a variety of tours for guests of Mount Hermon, e.g., nature tours, informative walks through the Conference Center, and possible off–site tours. Training will be provided.

MAIL ROOM ASSISTANTThis volunteer collects outgoing mail from several drop locations, applies postage if necessary, picks up incoming mail from the Post Office, and logs all incoming packages (UPS, Fed Ex, or US Postal Service).

VARIOUS TEAMSWe have a number of regular teams that assist in many areas, such as in the dining room, outdoor dining events, donuts and ice cream during the summer. In addition to daily mail room support, a crew of volunteers manages bulk mailings throughout the year.

YOUR HELP AND PARTICIPATION IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER BEFORE. BESIDES, THE VOLUNTEERS HAVE A LOT OF FUN, TOO!
