not hold a grudge against Peter, but offers him a gift of

reconciliation with God. Jesus generously gives Peter the

opportunity to set right the wrong of his denial by having

Peter declare “Yes, Lord, you know I love you,” three

times.

This is the Easter gift! Our resurrected Lord enters into

our lives where we are and offers us the gifts of peace

and reconciliation with God. Despite our doubt, our fear,

our denial, God never stops inviting us to experience the

abiding peace of His love. This Eastertide, let us repent of

our fear and doubt and accept the gifts that Jesus wants

to offer us all!

Our Easter baskets, once filled

with chocolates, now hold noth-

ing but candy wrappers. We’ve

hung up our pastel dresses. And

it’s probably time that we throw

away those colorfully dyed hard

-boiled eggs. In the wake of the

joy and excitement of Easter,

we might forget that Easter isn’t

just a day of church, family, and feasting, but a whole season

of celebration of the resurrection known as Eastertide. The

50-day season carries us from the Empty Tomb to Pentecost.

During Eastertide, we have the opportunity as a Church to

reflect upon what it truly means when we proclaim, “Christ

is risen!” We’ve already read the story of Christ appearing to

Mary in the resurrected flesh. But, what happened next?

John 20:19-29 tells us that as Jesus’ disciples cowered

and hid in fear of Roman retribution, Christ appeared to

them in their hiding place. He said to the clandestine disci-

ples, “Peace be with you,” on three different occasions. The

repetition of this phrase forces us to pause and consider why

Jesus says this. Jesus knew that the days ahead would not be

easy for his disciples; many of them would face persecution,

even martyrdom. Seeing that the disciples were afraid of

what the future might hold, Jesus wanted to comfort them,

not with cheap platitudes, but by giving them the gift of the

God’s everlasting peace that transcends all understanding.

Later in John 21, Jesus says another phrase three

times, this time to Simon Peter. As Jesus and Peter sat to-

gether eating breakfast on the beach, Jesus asked three

times “Do you love me?” Earlier in the Gospel story we re-

member that Peter denies Christ three times for fear of per-

secution. But Jesus in his faithfulness and gentleness does

Faith Wanda Circle We want to thank all of you who took hone chili and pies this month and contributed a love offering to our Circle’s fund. We received $381 to help with our community and church work! College students! We haven’t forgotten you! We will be sending you a “goodie bag” soon to help you get through exams and pull through those last few days! We’ve started our new study, Living a Life of Balance. We would love to have you come join us in this study and help us this year with church and community activities. Our next meeting is April 19, 6:30PM.

It is that time of year again! For those who like that Barbeque chicken cooked by the men of our church, you are in

luck! It is not too late to purchase a plate! You can still come on April 2, any time between 11AM- 7PM, for eat in or

carry out. The Faith Wanda and Ruth circles are sponsor this event with the Methodist Men’s group but we would love

to have you come and help us. It isn’t all work but a good time of fellowship as well! So, if you can come and help,

just come on. If you would like to know what times might have the greatest need, contact Mary Anne Carpenter.

Please invite your friends…even if they haven’t purchased a ticket. We will continue selling until the chicken runs out.

Easter Season

Every Thursday set your alarms at noon and we invite everyone to STOP whatever we are doing and lift our church family in prayer! The power of prayer is amazing and brings blessings upon blessings!!

Every Wednesday night we will gather for dinner at 6:00 p.m. and a time of devotion and fellowship. We also hope to schedule a few more speakers to join us during the month of April who were not available to join us during Lent. Watch the bulletin for details.

Helping Our Community Blood Drive: On Sunday, March 6 the Girl Scouts sponsored a Blood Drive after church. They registered donors and served refreshments to 21 donors. This was a good increase over past drives and we had several people come from outside our congregation. Thanks to the Girl Scouts and all who donated the life saving gift of blood.

The CROP Walk was on Palm Sunday. We set a goal of $700 and we raised $1440!!! We received a wonderful $500 dona-tion from our Bishop Hope Morgan Ward. Thanks to all our walkers: Pastor Suzanne, Priscilla Denning, Carol Bolton, and Robin Sorrell. And a great big thank you to all who contributed to this cause to help relieve hunger in our community and globally.

The Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday, March 19. It was well attended by the community. Breakfast was served, the Easter Bunny showed up, and prizes were given to the person who could guess the jelly beans in a jar. The winners were thrilled with their Wal-Mart gift card and the jar of jelly beans. Thanks to all those who helped with food, filling and hiding eggs, and just being there.

United Methodist Women

On Feb. 27 the Corridor District 2016 Sub District met at War-ren’s Grove UMC. The meeting included a presentation about Methodist Women, musical entertainment, and a skit with the theme GO GREEN. A special offering was taken for a reading program. I encourage more women to attend the meeting. It is very worthwhile.

We will be having a diaper, feminine hygiene products collec-tion starting Sunday, April 17. We will turn these item in on Saturday, April 30 to the Diaper Bank of NC. Thery are having a wrap diaper day from 10am to noon. Any questions call Jackie Copeland (919) 530-8181
