Meeting All Children’s Needs At the heart of the Challenge is children choosing and sharing any books – in any format – that they like. If your child is vision impaired or finds printed books tricky your library may be able to help suggest alternatives. The free RNIB Library (which covers braille, giant print and Talking Books) can be used to borrow books for the Summer Reading Challenge and throughout the year, and most libraries can help you with this.rnib.org.uk/childrensbooksLibrary services are increasingly aware of the needs of children with autism and some libraries run dedicated Autism Friendly sessions.

Children are encouraged to read at least six library books. They can be any books they like – novels, fact books, joke books or audio books, they all count – and your library will have staff and volunteers on hand to help children choose books they will really enjoy.

Fun for all the familyThe Challenge is a great time to share and talk about books as a family. Sitting down with a book, newspaper or magazine sets a good example to kids – they will copy you. Children enjoy taking part and many teachers tell us that they return to school with a new enthusiasm and confidence for reading.

Dyfeiswyr Direidi yw Sialens Ddarllen yr Haf eleni, ac mae’n dathlu pen blwydd y comic poblogaidd Beano yn 80 oed.Gall eich plentyn helpu Dennis, Dannedd a’u ffrindiau i chwilio am y trysor dirgel sydd wedi’i gladdu rywle yn Nhre Beano! Gellir cymryd rhan yn y Sialens yn rhad ac am ddim, a’r oll sydd angen i’ch plentyn ei wneud er mwyn cychwyn arni yw cofrestru yn y llyfrgell, lle caiff boster i’w gadw er mwyn cofnodi’r llyfrau y mae’n eu darllen.

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is Mischief Makers; celebrating the 80th anniversary of the much-loved comic, Beano.Your child can help Dennis, Gnasher and friends explore Beanotown to find the mysterious buried treasure! It’s totally free and to get started all your child has to do is sign up at the library where they will be given a collector poster to keep a record of their reading.

As they read their books, each child will receive special stickers to complete their poster. Once they have collected all the stickers they will be able to find the buried treasure and become top mischief makers!

Mae’r plant yn cael eu hannog i ddarllen o leiaf chwe llyfr llyfrgell. Gallant fod yn unrhyw lyfrau a fynnant – nofelau, llyfrau ffeithiol, llyfrau jôcs neu lyfrau sain, mae popeth yn cyfrif – a bydd staff a gwirfoddolwyr wrth law yn eich llyfrgell i helpu’r plant i ddewis llyfrau y byddant wir yn eu mwynhau.
