After a lengthy legal battle, Maria Altmann has gained possession of five important Klimt paintings originally owned by her family. Seized by Nazis in 1938, the works have never before been seen together in the United States. The masterpieces include two portraits of Ms. Altmann’s aunt, Adele Bloch-Bauer, and three landscapes. Bet Tzedek’s Holocaust Services Program filed amicus curiae (”friend of the court”) briefs in support of Mrs. Altmann throughout her legal struggle, including in the U.S. Supreme Court. We are honored to have contributed to the return of the paintings to their rightful owner.
