Gundaroo Public School
Week 6, Term 4, 2017
Dear Parents,
We’ve just crossed the half-way mark for Term 4 (who’s counting?!), with plenty of events about to take place! A few important dates to mark in your diaries:
Friday 17th November - 10am.
We will be treated to a visit by 723 Naval Air Squadron and a Royal Australian Navy Helicopter. The visit is expected to last two hours. Parents are more than welcome to attend.
Friday 24th November - 2:20pm
Final whole school assembly for the year. Year 3/4 will be doing an item.
Thursday 30th November - 10am and 6pm
We will be holding a Matinee performance for anyone who is unable to attend our evening Concert. Our Concert & Presentation Night will begin at 6pm.
Week 9 - 4th December to 8th December
Bike Week! This is normally held during the final week of Term 3, however with Swimming this year, we have had to make a switch. All children are invited to bring their bikes to school on Friday 1st December for their safety check by ‘Constable Betts’. Any safety issues will need to be rectified over the weekend, before riding on the school track during the week.
Friday 5th December - 6pm
A one-hour session for parents with myself and other staff members to have a brief look at the feedback from the Consultation process (a survey will be emailed out next week) and to discuss in more detail any issues that may arise. Following that, the final P&C meeting of the year will be held. Please come along.
Friday 8th December - 2:15pm
Captain’s Speeches Assembly. Come along and listen to our Year 5 students state their case for School Captain and other leadership positions in 2018.
Monday 11th December - 5:30pm
Not wanting to miss out on the Disco action, we have decided to hold our inaugural K-2 Disco in the School Hall. More details to follow.
Wednesday 13th December - 5:30pm for 6pm start
We officially say farewell to our Year 6 students. Students in Years 3-5 are also invited to come along for a formal 3-course meal, followed by dancing and plenty of fun! A note will come home in the coming weeks.
Friday 15th December - 7.30am
As a final hurrah to the 2017 school year, the P&C will again be hosting the Community Breakfast as a way of saying thank you for all the support we continue to receive. For a gold coin, come along for a barista-made coffee, bacon and egg roll and fruit salad, stick around to hear who has made it to 300 Nights reading, and who our school leaders are for 2018!
Have a great week,
Nigel Trethowan.

Talking Tickets
“Mistakes are the proof that you are trying”
With the warmer weather comes an
increase in the UV index. In Term 4 and Term 1, we ask that all students wear a
broad-brimmed hat when playing outside or participating in outdoor activities.
Children who do not have a hat in the playground will be asked to play under
the COLA. A limited number of hats are available to borrow. School hats are also available to
purchase in the Office for $12.
BIRTHDAYS!
Rose - 15th Nov Ella - 21st Nov
Zach - 19th Nov
Three things you probably didn’t know about
blueberries!
The perfect blueberry should appear ‘dusty’. Be sure not to
wash off the ‘dust’ until you are ready to eat, as rinsing
softens the blueberry and quickens spoiling.
The blueberry bush is a relative of the rhododendron and
the azalea, and along more intuitive lines, also the
cranberry!
A 2102 study suggested that eating at least one serve of
blueberries per week slowed cognitive decline by several
years!
