Safe Kids Northeast Georgia One hundred percent of the proceeds raised by Marketplace 2019 will benefit Safe Kids Northeast Georgia, formerly known as Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County. Safe Kids works to prevent accidental childhood injury, the leading killer of children ages 19 and under in the United States. Safe Kids Northeast Georgia is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to preventing accidental injury. The coalition is one of 30 Safe Kids coalitions and has been proudly led by Northeast Georgia Medical Center since 1992. Over 130 members, representing more than 30 community agencies, serve on the coalition. “The fundraising efforts of Marketplace have helped the children of Hall County for many years,” states Chris Bray, President and Chief Development Officer of the Northeast Georgia Health System Foundation. “In fact, thanks to Marketplace, Safe Kids has now expanded programing to include Barrow County. This means more children and families will be impacted and ultimately, more lives will be saved." In addition to the expansion of its programs, Safe Kids Northeast Georgia is the first coalition in the

state to fund the Signs of Suicide Prevention Program. Gainesville City and Hall County middle and high schools have been equipped with this valuable curriculum since 2018. This incredible work would not be possible without Marketplace funding and the support of Northeast Georgia Health System. On behalf of the thousands of northeast Georgia families who have benefited from the coalition and its programs, thank you for your support! Have a happy and safe holiday season and happy shopping!

Signature Artist - Christie Gregory

This year’s Marketplace Signature Artist is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, who now calls

Gainesville home. Her studio, near the beltway in downtown Gainesville, is filled with beautiful finished and in-process canvases and light from tall windows in the old building formerly used as a warehouse. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in studio art from Vanderbilt Peabody College. Throughout her life, she has continued to develop her gift, learning from other artists including accomplished painters David Leffel and Roseta Santiago. Her work also reflects a considerable amount of self-teaching. While her academic training focused on various forms of classical art, she now says she’s more excited by the process of creating abstract art – “the accidental forms and textures that emerge when a painting is started with no specific direction in mind, other than an idea of colors and shapes, a particular emotion, or even an inspiring piece of music.” Christie uses layers of acrylic paint on canvas to express her love of color and texture, and the subtle ways unexpected color combinations, shapes, and lines move us. Her style has been described as “painterly and playful,” and she’s inspired by both the physical and intuitive process of painting. Christie had a successful career as an art director and designer in Atlanta, where she worked from the mid-80s until 2016 when she opened her studio and began to focus on painting full-time. Her work has been exhibited in group shows at

Brenau University and the Quinlan Arts Center in Gainesville, Georgia, Trinity School in Atlanta, and previously at The Parthenon in Nashville. Some of her paintings reside in private collections in Atlanta, Nashville, Gainesville and Stockholm. Christie is passionate about the importance of art in connecting us and improving our lives, and is involved in Gainesville’s Vision 2030 Public Arts initiative. She and her husband, Bob, live in Gainesville with their two dogs, Louis and Daisy.

Featured Merchants

No One Alike Clarkesville, GA The name “No One Alike” speaks to the originality, innovation, artistry and personality of Kim Padula. Her creations are an expression of these attributes and are the antithesis of the mass-produced products you might think of in their respective categories – purses, scarfs, journals, candles or a myriad of other products. It was natural that by eight years old she was sewing, at eleven she was quilting and in high school was selling her clutch craft bags to classmates for prom. After graduation from college, she discovered an ancient technique of marbling paper; it became the basis for her creations.

Bee’s Knees Boutique Gainesville, GA Bee’s Knees Boutique, owned by Paige Coleman Pethel, offers ladies' apparel, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories focusing on style, practicality, comfort, quality, and value. This is boutique shopping at its best.
