2020 marks the 24th time that our jury will be honouring the very best beauty products and
spa concepts from 38 countries around the world. As last year you have the possibility again to
send in your application among others for the category „Medical & Health Concepts“. With other
products you can apply in one of our other four suitable categories (Luxury, Innovation, Cult und
Organic Concepts).

FOR A SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION
THE GUIDELINES
1 Your concept corresponds to the specified criteria and – in keeping with the essence of the spa
philosophy – focuses on the harmony of mind, body and spirit.
2Your application for the product categories is to take place solely through the use of the online
form. Simply go to http://spa-awards-ad-alliance.de, where you can fill out the questionnaire and
upload pictures with at least 1920 x 1080 pixels and a size of up to 10 MB. Please also upload your
digital press kit.
IMPORTANT!
Please do not send any original products. Our jury will generate a shortlist for each category at
the end of the application time. By end of September the shortlisted companies will be informed
by us and asked to send their original products to be tested by our jury. The testing phase will be
from October – January. Products send to us before will not be taken into account.

THE SPA AWARDS
The premium celebrity and women’s magazine GALA and Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, one of
Europe’s premier spas, have been presenting the SPA AWARDS every year since 1996.
In keeping with its mantra of “The purest experience”, the prestigious jury has set itself the task
of establishing a standard for quality for the booming wellness market. 38 countries are already
involved, and their number continues to grow. This makes the SPA AWARDS one of the most
important international awards in the sector.
The contest only honours beauty products, hotels and spa locations that abide by the principle
“sanus per aquam” (= healthy through water) and which are able to provide innovative and
exciting services.

For extraordinarily exclusive luxury beauty products and personal care ranges that are in keeping
with the holistic approach of the spa philosophy and that offer an impressive and authentic spa
experience.
LUXURY CONCEPTS – face/body
The luxury beauty products or personal care ranges must not only satisfy the very highest
standards, but must also be exemplary in terms of providing THE PUREST EXPERIENCE. An
applicant in this category must offer a concept that is fully in keeping with the holistic approach
of the spa philosophy.
Applicants may submit individual products or entire product ranges. The product / product
range is considered to be suitable for the FACE or BODY category if it satisfies the following
requirements:
Gentle and compatible: Ideally the products will contain natural or nature-identical ingredients and will do without
superfluous fragrances or preservatives.
Luxurious indulgence: The product should be extremely exclusive, and should treat the user to an indulgent and
luxurious experience. Your product or product range should contain high-quality ingredients,
have a moisturising effect and exude a noticeable wellness fragrance.
Holistic approach: The concept must correspond to the holistic approach of the spa philosophy. With their appealing
aromas, texture, composition or overall usage, the luxurious spa products offer an extraordinary
spa experience.
Distribution: Only those concepts that are available in shops or online are permitted to participate.
Product launch: The beauty product or product range must have been launched on the German market after
September 2018.

For innovative technologies that represent one of the cosmetic trends of the year and provide a
special solution for the very best skin care.
INNOVATION CONCEPTS – face/body
Innovative products or product ranges that have been made using the finest formulas and
particularly advanced technology. The applicant represents one of the beauty trends of the year
in the cosmetic market. In addition, it must also offer a special solution for the very best skin care.
Applicants may submit individual products or entire product ranges. The product / product
range is considered to be suitable for the FACE or BODY category if it satisfies the following
requirements:
Gentle and compatible: Ideally the products will contain natural or nature-identical ingredients and will do without
superfluous fragrances or preservatives.
Effectiveness: The product is characterised by a special innovation. It relies on the very latest technological
developments, pampers the skin and helps it function the way it should. The product / product
range contains innovative active ingredients.
Distribution: Only those concepts that are available in shops or online are permitted to participate.
Product launch: The beauty product or product range must have been launched on the German market after
September 2018.

Insider tips from the stars: Cult Concepts are striking concepts that offer interesting new aspects
for a modern lifestyle.
CULT CONCEPTS – face/body
Nothing excites greater curiosity than insider tips from the stars. As a result, this category
honours particularly striking spa concepts, products and product lines that are distinctive and
which represent a modern lifestyle.
Applicants may submit individual products or entire product ranges. The product / product
range is considered to be suitable for the FACE or BODY category if it satisfies the following
requirements:
Positioning: The product / product range boasts an extraordinary beauty approach and its own philosophy of
indulgence, with a very clear lifestyle aspect. Links to stars and niche distribution help accentuate
the exclusive character.
Gentle and compatible: Ideally the products will contain natural or nature-identical ingredients and will do without
superfluous fragrances or preservatives.
Effectiveness: The product or product range is characterised by an innovative combination of ingredients.

ORGANIC CONCEPTS
For natural product concepts that are based on ecologically produced raw materials and the
most environmentally friendly production possible. This category should do an exemplary job of
addressing and harmonising ethical aspects like health, mindfulness, environmental production
and fairness.
ORGANIC CONCEPTS – face/body
The demand for organic products has grown tremendously in recent years. There are now so
many fascinating natural cosmetics labels that we have decided to create a new category.
Applicants may submit individual products or entire product ranges. The product / product
range is considered to be suitable for the Organic Concepts category if it satisfies the following
requirements:
Gentle and compatible: In keeping with the specifications for various quality certifications (e.g. BDIH, NaTrue, Eco-cert,
Cosmebio, COSMOS-Standard, Natural Cosmetics Standard, Neuform-Qualität and many others),
the products are to be composed primarily of organic and fair trade raw materials and should
result from organic agriculture.
Sustainability: In the interests of sustainability, the product must also be environmentally compatible. This means
that the brand recognises its responsibility to nature in the production process, as well as towards
the people who are involved in its production.
Holistic approach: The concept must correspond to the holistic approach of the spa philosophy. The product should
address the mind, body and spirit. In addition, it can also have self-healing effects based on
shamanic traditions or the use of medicinal plants.
Effectiveness: The product pampers the skin, provides moisture and helps the skin function the way it should. The
product / product line is produced using high-quality plant-based natural ingredients.
Distribution: Only those concepts that are available in shops or online are permitted to participate.
Product launch: The beauty product or product range must have been launched on the German market after
September 2018.

MEDICAL & HEALTH CONCEPTS
This category is aimed not only at outstanding beauty and mind concepts offered by medical
& health resorts, but also at holistic therapies and non-invasive treatments on the threshold of
medicine.
MEDICAL & HEALTH CONCEPTS – as body treatments
The awards are given to treatments that offer balanced healing and/or optimise beauty. The goal
is to transport the skin, the mind and the entire body into a more aesthetic and healthy state,
both visually and energetically. The treatment should be in the tradition of proven therapeutic
treatments, or should boast an innovative, pioneering approach, appropriate ingredients and a
particularly advanced technology that offers lasting support for the proper functioning of mind
and body.
Effectiveness: The treatment can be for the face or body, and is distinguished by the selection of products and/
or their innovative use. The objective is not only to provide noticeable relaxation, but also to solve
problems related to different skin requirements. This includes, for example, improving the skin’s
radiance, tightening the skin and delivering special revitalisation.
Holistic approach: The concept must correspond to the holistic approach of the spa philosophy. With their appealing
aromas, texture and professional usage, the luxurious spa products offer an extraordinary spa
experience.
Welcome and relaxation ritual in the spa: Here too, it is important that there be a distinctive approach, characterised for example by the
provision of healthy snacks (such as tea or fruit) or by starting off with an indulgent gesture (e.g.
a foot bath or massage) that is instantly recognisable.
