GUIDELINES AND PRACTICAL ADVICE ON HOW TO USE VERALLIA CONTAINERS: REMOVAL OF POLYETHYLENE PACKING FILM DEPALLETIZING AND USE Update: DECEMBER 2018 This information sheet aims at: calling users' attention to the importance of removing polyethylene packing film, depalletizing and then using the containers (focusing in particular on washing and coating); describing essential elements as for the use of glass containers. These guidelines shall be possibly integrated by suggestions given even verbally by the Customer Quality Service of Verallia Italia S.p.A. None the less, the application of these best practices shall not limit the responsibility of customers and/or users who shall in any case make sure they take any necessary precautions due to the nature of glass containers. 1. Removal of polyethylene packing film and depalletizing Avoid any, even minimal, contact between the blade of the tool to cut the polyethylene packing film and the glass containers. Avoid impacts among containers as much as possible: during depalletizing phase, use ad hoc methods and devices. Eliminate the containers that fell down or were damaged during handling. Separate packing materials following their nature and type for a correct waste management (polyethylene and cardboard) and returnable materials (pallets and interlayer separators). Verify the container compliance to the model envisaged. We suggest the operator has the drawing of the container directly available at the filling area so that he/she can make regular checks. Keep the identification tags (labels) of container pallets (refer to Guidelines of Verallia Italia S.p.A. on traceability). 2. Washing Verallia Italia S.p.A. has taken any precautions not to compromise the cleaning of containers during stora- ge and handling. In accordance with European legislation in force, we strongly recommend to wash the container or use any other method for its hygienization before using such container. Best Practice!

GUIDELINES AND PRACTICAL ADVICE ON HOW TO USE VERALLIA CONTAINERS:

REMOVAL OF POLYETHYLENE PACKING FILM DEPALLETIZING AND USE

Update: DECEMBER 2018

This information sheet aims at:

calling users' attention to the importance of removing polyethylene packing film, depalletizing and

then using the containers (focusing in particular on washing and coating);

describing essential elements as for the use of glass containers.

1. Removal of polyethylene packing film and depalletizing

Avoid any, even minimal, contact between the blade of the tool to cut the polyethylene packing film and the glass containers.

2. Washing

Verallia Italia S.p.A. has taken any precautions not to compromise the cleaning of containers during stora-ge and handling. In accordance with European legislation in force, we strongly recommend to wash the container or use any other method for its hygienization before using such container.

Best Practice!

3. Coating/Labelling

Container coating depends on several elements: the type of container, the corresponding surface treat-ments, the label material, the adhesive, the labelling machine and its setting parameters, and also the working conditions (temperature, moisture, etc.). When using a container with a log, we recommend that you periodically check the locking pins (shape and force.

Verallia Italia S.p.A. recommends that you verify with your suppliers for materials and services relating to coating, the correct compatibility of the products used with the specific glass container.

For instance, the glue or adhesive must adhere on surfaces where the surface tension is above 38 dynes. Such check is absolutely required and mandatory in case you change glue or adhesive.

Each container can have surfaces you can apply a label on and surfaces where label application is not possible.

Surfaces you can apply a label on, are specified and visible/identified on the design of each container made by Verallia Italia S.p.A. Applying labels on areas that are not intended for such purpose, is not permitted.
