Wilderness Experience: While the experiences listed below are all personal, I have guided or lead trips in all the titled outdoor categories below except: biking, snorkeling and paragliding. Being able to share “once-‐in-‐a-‐life-‐time” experiences with clients, not matter the scale, and see the wonder and satisfaction on their faces, is one of the greatest rewards that any guide can ask for. When I’m not guiding I thrive on new challenges, out of the ordinary travels, and difficult to attain, yet breathtaking views rather than the comforts of a familiar yet great adventure. Backpacking & Snowshoeing
I have many years of backpacking experiences in many locations including New Zealand, Iceland, Utah, Wyoming, California, Oregon, Canada and Colorado. Over the years I have accomplished many local favorites that are not well know, however I have also accomplished some very well known trails from the great walks in New Zealand to the John Muir in California. Some of the other locations I have backpacked are: Desolation Wilderness, Tahoe National Forest, Eastern Sierra Nevada’s, Big Sur National Park, Limekiln State Park, Sequoia National Park, Yosemite National Park, Joshua Tree, Montano De Oro State Park, Poly/Perfumo Canyons, Zion National Park, Arches National Park, Los Padres National Forrest, Inyo National Forrest and the Ecuador Cloud Forest.
Kayaking & Rafting At home I am known as a water baby because I have been on the water ever since before I was born. My mother’s water broke in a class 4 rapid and I have never looked back. From sea and lake kayaking to solo backcountry whitewater expeditions I love being in a boat. Some rivers I have done include the: Middle Fork of the Salmon, Green, San Juan, Rouge, Grand Canyon, Tatshenshini, South Fork of the American, Black Canyon, Carson River, Rancheria Creek, Truckee River, Florestine Gorge and Cash Creek. I have also explored: Lake Tahoe, Morro Bay, Santa Margarita Lake, Lopez Lake, Abel Tasman Coast, Big Sur coast, Laguna Lake and the Galapagos Islands by kayak.
Rock & Ice Climbing While I started rock climbing at the age of six, I didn't become involved in ice climbing until college. I have climbed some classics in Tuolumne Meadows and Yosemite Valley as well as some smaller crags and peaks in Bishop, San Luis Obispo, Utah and Colorado.
Skiing & Snowboarding I have been on the snow since I was two years old. I can alpine ski, telemark ski, snowboard and sit ski. I have explored mountains in California, Utah and Colorado.
Road & Mountain Biking In the past 2 years I have gone from no experience with bikes to designing and fabricating my own frames from the tubes up. I now have thousands of miles on both my road and mountain bikes. Some of these miles can be attributed to bike touring the San Juan Islands and the country of New Zealand, but a lot of them are from smaller rides such as the Big Sur coast and Icefields Parkway on my road bike, to mountain biking Utah’s Slick-‐rock trail and parts of the Pacific Crest trail.
Miscellaneous Wilderness Passions Mountaineering: While my mountaineering experience is limited to just a couple routes including Shasta and Weart, I have still taught numerous classes in avalanche safety and snow traveling techniques. Snorkeling: I have snorkeled Lake Tahoe, Galapagos Islands, The Kiakoura Coast Line, California Coast Line and am looking forward to learning how to scuba dive. Paragliding: I have begun learning how to paraglide. So far I have kitted at Laguna Lake, Duck Hill and the Truckee Fields. I have also had several tandem flights with my first one being off Marshall peak when I was four years old.
