Guide
MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
The Residence Education and Housing Services and Culinary Services teams have been hard at work all summer preparing for your arrival this fall! This move-in guide will be a helpful reference for some of the more common questions you may have.
Move-in day is an exciting time for students and their families! Each incoming student is assigned a specific move-in day and time. Arriving to campus during your assigned move-in day and time aids in the flow of traffic as thousands of new Spartans travel to MSU to begin their college experience. Anticipate heavier traffic leading to campus and give yourself extra time.
Because of the volume of traffic on campus during move-in, we suggest bringing only enough people to help you move efficiently (and leaving the family pet at home). Our campus dining halls are a great place to meet up with family and friends after getting settled in your new space.
TWO-DAY MOVE-INIn an effort to keep the process running smoothly, move-in will be held over a two-day period. Our goal of offering a two-day move-in is to create a more predictable experience for incoming Spartans by better managing traffic flow, elevator use, green moving carts and volunteers.
You will be assigned a specific move-in time for your specific day. The time slot will be posted on the main page of your My Housing account and is based on the last digit of your room number.
Please adhere to your assigned day and time slot in order to make the experience as smooth as possible.
If you have extenuating circumstances where you cannot move in on your assigned day, please adhere to your provided time slot on the day you move in. For example, if you cannot move in on Saturday, and your assigned time is 10-11 a.m., arrive between 10 and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Early Move-in: If you need to move in earlier than Aug. 24, you must submit an early move-in request form found in your My Housing account. You will receive an email when this form is available. Early move-in requests will be granted for extenuating circumstances only. Residents will be charged a nightly fee if moving in prior to Saturday, Aug. 24. Please note, dining plans begin Aug. 24.
MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Students who live on an even floor (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12) will move in Saturday, Aug. 24.

ON MOVE-IN DAY
REMEMBER, MICHIGAN IS STILL WARM IN AUGUST! BE SURE TO DRESS ACCORDINGLY.
When you arrive to your assigned residence hall, volunteers will be outside to help direct you on where to park and to help unload your vehicle. 1
2 After belongings have been removed from the vehicle, please relocate your car to your assigned parking lot so we can prepare for the next group of students.
Please visit the Service Center in your residence hall lobby. Here you will collect your room key, additional residence hall information and dining passes for the day. 3
DININGMSU Culinary Services is dedicated to nourishing the campus community. In addition to providing flexible, convenient dining options, students have a wide variety of safe and comfortable environments in which to eat and study. Ranked #1 in the state and #19 in the country, the dining team strives to provide culinary excellence while meeting the ever-changing needs of student nutrition. Whether you seek quick and portable selections, a leisurely meal with friends, late-night options, gluten-friendly choices, vegetarian or vegan cuisine, we provide a host of options to accommodate. If you face an allergy or dietary restriction, be sure to connect with our registered dietitians to assist with safely navigating the dining facilities across campus.
ON MOVE-IN DAYSpartans and their immediate family members are invited to enjoy a complimentary meal on move-in day. Please pick up meal vouchers upon check-in to the residence hall, which will include your assigned campus dining hall for the day. Make sure you have your MSU ID, and simply visit the dining hall listed on the voucher to enjoy a meal on us!

PACK UP. PITCH IN. As part of ongoing sustainability efforts by MSU, the Pack Up. Pitch In. program is an important part of move-in. Look for Pack Up. Pitch In. bins in each neighborhood. For more than 20 years, Pack Up. Pitch In. has aided in the collection of move-in materials such as cardboard, plastic and paper. MSU provides extensive recycling practices year-round throughout campus, and collection bins can be found in each residence hall.
