2 weeks ago I made a call for response to the GI program. In particular I asked for responses to the following questions:

Do you have any complaints about PROBA2 and its GI program?e.g. complaints about access to the data, how you were received, your time at ROB.

What did like about working with PROBA2 and its GI program?

Do you have any ideas or suggestions to help improve the GI Program?

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for future collaborations?

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for the future direction of PROBA2?

Would you recommend the use of PROBA2 to others?

Would you recommend the GI Program to others?

Finally, do you have any questions with regards to PROBA2?

GI Anonymous Feedback

Page 3: Guest Investigator Program

• Several responses were of the form:I have no complaints or suggestions about the PROBA2 GI program. I enjoyed working with Dan Seaton on a SWAP instrumental issue, and my time there was great. I would recommend the program to others. No questions for now.

• A few of the more interesting responses will now be discussed.

Do you have any complaints about PROBA2 and its GI program? e.g. complaints about access to the data, how you were received, your time at ROB. Access is excellent

What did like about working with PROBA2 and its GI program? Having the possibility to have a small International team working together at the ROB

Do you have any ideas or suggestions to help improve the GI Program? Select the most efficient teams (with serious publications) Have collaborations with ROB people/scientists

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for future collaborations? Yes but we re-submitted 2 times a proposal and were not selected.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for the future direction of PROBA2? Yes: do more work using as well the HMI and AIA images of SDO etc. taking into account the expertise from SWAP and better support the stay at ROBHave a popular Internet site (Facebook?) were the results are summarized continuously

Would you recommend the use of PROBA2 to others? Yes, we did it indeed, for SWAP images that we know.

Would you recommend the GI Program to others? - Yes

Finally, do you have any questions with regards to PROBA2? - Have our proposals selected!

Do you have any complaints about PROBA2 and its GI program?e.g. complaints about access to the data, how you were received, your time at ROB.we had great time, immediately got all data, all was perfectly organized, nothing to complain about.

What did like about working with PROBA2 and its GI program? It gives a wonderful opportunity to meet the team who does and knows all about the observations which is rare to impossible with any other mission. I think this is actually the best way to correctly observe, reduce and analyse data. We struggled a lot with both SoHO and Hinode (and me still do) and if such programs existed with the operational teams of these missions would have made a big difference and the science output would have been more and better quality. Do you have any ideas or suggestions to help improve the GI Program?Nothing specific comes to my head really, I am very positive of my experience. Do you have any ideas or suggestions for future collaborations?I personally would like to have another run this year, so I would like very much to discuss this option with you. I will contact today Hinode for obtaining another 3-4 days of support.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for the future direction of PROBA2?You do a great job, keep going the same way.

Cont…..

Would you recommend the use of PROBA2 to others?I did already.

Would you recommend the GI Program to others?Yes, definitely.

Finally, do you have any questions with regards to PROBA2?How long SWAP will be operating? I hope that's helpful. I talk to you again next few days concerning another SWAP/Hinode co-observations. My new PhD student started working on the Hinode/SWAP data obtained in March so we are hoping by the end of the sumer to have some good results. I am also using SWAP for another unrelated to the campaign work.

Questions:

What did like about working with PROBA2 and its GI program? Freedom to pursue any scientific project related to PROBA2 data.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for future collaborations?High-cadence (higher than synoptic) off-limb sub-fields. Would you recommend the use of PROBA2 to others?Yes. As a matter of fact, a University of Ioannina MSc student, Mrs Eleni Nikou, is heavily using SWAP data for her thesis (under Prof. A. Nindos) .

Would you recommend the GI Program to others? Yes.

Finally, do you have any questions with regards to PROBA2?Is there are another way (other than going through the obs-calendars) to seek for campaigns?

Extra note:a MSc student in my University is make heavy use of SWAP data for her thesis. Moreover, I'm involved in a paper (1st author B. Kliem) which makes also use of SWAP data. Once, there are  further developments on both fronts I will   let you know.

Questions: Do you have any complaints about PROBA2 and its GI program? e.g. complaints about access to the data, how you were received, your time at ROB.

Overall we were very well received, and access to data has been easy. The accommodation provided was of good standard, and the reimbursement of expenses was prompt.

The only comment I would make is that after two visits, it was surprising to me that1) there isn't a clear office space already allocated to visitors when we arrive at ROB (being asked to choose in which office I want to go doesn't make much sense to me, especially considering the complex layout of ROB buildings!)

2) setting up access to internet took a long time, even if the same thing (I suppose) must have been done over and over with all GI visitors over a few years.

As you can see these are minor comments, which did not affect in any way our research project etc, but since you're asking, I thought I'd mention this!

What did you like about working with PROBA2 and its GI program?

Being at ROB and talking directly to the scientists involved in the instruments.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions to help improve the GI Program?

Although my proposal was accepted at first attempt, retrospectively I think I would have liked to have some feedback from the evaluation panel on the proposed project.

Do you have any complaints about PROBA2 and its GI program? e.g. complaints about access to the data, how you were received, your time at ROB.

No, my contacts with people in ROB are very frienly and effective.

What did like about working with PROBA2 and its GI program?

I am one of the people who worked with PROBA 2 since this project was in ithe initial phase - from 2003 when I took part in discussions on SWAP and LYRA design and on-ground caliblations. It was initially my idea to study the solar corona with SWAP, and it was realized with success. PROBA 2 is a modern small satellite able to compete with much larger and more expensive satellites like SDO. On my opinion, the PROBA 2 GI program is very effective, because it helps in broadening of scientific tasks and provides access to the high quality data for a wide circle of people who have limited resources for trips.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions to help improve the GI Program?

It is worth to think about better information about accepted projects, for example, by listing not only the titles and authors of the projects, but also abstracts. The achieved results may be made more public, say, by presenting the highlights on the special page.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for future collaborations?

Collaboration in such projects is a very individual thing, so I cannot give any specific advise. The SCSL meetings is a good means to start new collaborations, if they will attract serious persons in solar physics.

Page 10: Guest Investigator Program

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for the future direction of PROBA2?

The best is to continue fuctioning of the PROBA 2 and all instruments as long as possible with periodic checking of calibrations. The ordinary synoptic mode of operation is well suited for investigations of long scale as well as short scale solar events.May be it is worth to think about free registration of users of the PROBA 2 data with formulation of the tasks for which they use the PROBA data and info about publications. Then you can systematize these tasks. Such things are made in many observatories.

Would you recommend the use of PROBA2 to others?

Yes, of course.

Would you recommend the GI Program to others?

Yes, of course.

Finally, do you have any questions with regards to PROBA2?

I will be happy to continue my work with PROBA 2 data and collaboration with the project people.

Instructions prior to arrival.

Important points:

•Planning, we now expect GIs to book single ‘blocks’ of time, rather than fragmented trips. This avoids complications with visas, booking offices and Anne’s workload.

•We don’t mind attending conferences and Meetings, prior to arrival or departure, but This will be organised solely by the GI and No offices or rooms booked.

•Local one day talks/seminars are acceptable.

•Accommodation options, guest rooms are recommended, but issued on first come first serve basis.

•No arrivals to guest rooms on weekends. If Necessary a hotel should be booked.

•Submit computer details prior to arrival to avoid •delays.
