    adversity, to five fundamental values:honesty, trust, fairness, respect, andresponsibility (The Center for Academic

    Integrity, 1999, p. 4; emphasis added).

    What is Academic Dishonesty?

    The principles of truth and academic

    honesty are the basis of the search forknowledge. The University can bestfunction and accomplish its objectives inan atmosphere of high ethical standards.Students must honour these principles and

    uphold these standards. Extract from UTTs General Academic Regulations, Policies and Procedures for All Academic Programmes, Section 9.1.

    Infraction of the principles of academic

    honesty or cheating includes any conductthat a reasonable personin the same orsimilar circumstances would considerdishonest or improper in an academicsetting.

    Academic Dishonesty includes:

    Plagiarism where a student incorporates another persons or

    bodys work by unacknowledged quotation,paraphrase, imitation or other device in any worksubmitted for assessment in a way that suggeststhat it is the students original work;

    Collusion where two or more students (or a student andanother person) collaborate without officialapproval in the presentation of work which is

    submitted as the work of a single student; orwhere a student or students allow their work to beincorporated in, or represented as, the work ofanother student;

    Falsification where the content of any assessed work

    has been invented or falsely presented

    by the student as their own work; oraltering or changing documents tobenefit the student;

    Replication where a student submits the same or

    similar piece of work on more than oneoccasion for assessment to gainacademic credit;

    Cheating: Taking unauthorised notes or devices into anexamination;

    Obtaining an unauthorised copy of an examination

    paper;

    Communicating, or trying to communicate, withanother student during an examination; or trying to

    convey information to any other student during anexamination;

    Being a party to impersonation in relation to anexamination;

    Any other act or acts that compromise theintegrity of the academic evaluation process.
