1. Glossary ALTERNATOR: rotating electrical machine. ATS: (Automatic Transfer Switch) a device that guarantees power to the load by switching from the normal power supply (Mains) to the emergency power supply (GENSET). The power disconnection devices, GCB and MCB, are found inside it. These can consist of a switch, a contactor or a changeover switch. BC: battery charger ERROR CODE: refers to the SPN and FMI diagnostic alphanumeric codes used in the SAE J1939 Standard. They are used by service centres to identify behaviours or causes of defects in the motor. Thanks to the SAE1939 communication protocol, the ERROR CODES can provide very precise and specific information. DISPLAY: refers to the video screen on which the data provided or processed by the electronic GUARD TOUCH device are displayed. ECU: stands for ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT, which identifies the electronic controller installed in the motor. Its function is to control the injection and rotation speed. Moreover, it verifies that the motor runs smoothly and stops it if the operating conditions do not fall within the limits allowed or become hazardous. EJP: specific operating mode for the French market. It is active in the AUTO mode and forces the GENSET to start-up with forced supply to the load even in the presence of the Mains. FMI: identification numeric code related to the SAE 1939 Standard, which identifies the severity of the recorded fault. GENSET: abbreviation of generating set. GCB: (Genset Circuit Breaker) identifies the disconnection device of the power produced by the alternator. It generally consists of a switch, a contactor or a changeover switch. It can be installed on the GENSET or in the ATS. GUARD TOUCH: electronic device that controls the smooth operation of the generating set. Also determines the operating modes and cycles according to the configuration. All the gathered information appears on the display, which also accepts operator commands. MCB: (Main Circuit Breaker) identifies the disconnection device of the mains power supply. It generally consists of a switch, a contactor or a changeover switch. It is usually installed in the ATS. OPERATING MODE: identifies the status in which the machine is programmed to work, according to the type of system. The operating modes are: OFF, MAN, AUTO and TEST.

OFF: safe operating mode with all the GENSET commands disabled. MAN: operating mode with the GENSET commands controlled directly by the operator. AUTO: operating mode with the GENSET commands controlled automatically TEST: operating mode where the GENSET is automatically started up and AUTOMATIC operation is

simulated. OPERATOR: a person with appropriate training, knowledge and experience to use the GENSET while assessing the risks and hazards. MAINS: primary distribution system, which the user connects to for electrical power supply SPM: stands for SINGLE PRIME MOVER, which identifies a single GENSET to power an island load. These GENSETS are manually operated as they have no autonomous start-up system and are controlled by an operator directly on site. SSB: stands for SINGLE STAND-BY, which identifies a single GENSET to power an island load in an emergency status on the primary Mains network. A GENSET configured this way can autonomously control its start-ups and switchover times of the ATS, while also controlling the quality of the Mains. SPN: identification numeric code related to the SAE 1939 Standard, which identifies the type of recorded fault. TOUCH SCREEN: is a plastic film applied on the display. Its function is to detect the presence and position of an object in contact within an area on the screen and allows direct interaction with the icons displayed.

WARNING STATUS: is an abnormal operating status in the GENSET, recorded by the GUARD TOUCH. This can be activated if hazardous operating conditions are neared or maintenance is required. When one of these conditions occurs, a buzzer is sounded and a message appears on the display, describing the cause. The GENSET can still be used when in the WARNING status as the causes are not considered hazardous. ALARM STATUS: is an abnormal operating status in the GENSET, recorded by the GUARD TOUCH. This can be activated if hazardous operating conditions arise, which could damage the GENSET, property or persons. When one of these conditions occurs, a buzzer is sounded and a text message appears on the display. If the GENSET is running, it is switched off when an ALARM status is triggered; if, on the other hand it was off, start-up is disabled.

MAIN PAGE: or PAGE 1/5. This page contains the most important information regarding the GENSET. The GUARD TOUCH device will automatically return to the MAIN PAGE if the device is not interacted with for six minutes. POWER-ON: start-up sequence of the GUARD TOUCH board as from when it is powered up to when the MAIN PAGE is displayed. POWER-OFF: shutdown sequence of the GUARD TOUCH board.

3. Introduction Dear Customer, On behalf of Visa Spa, we would like to thank you for having purchased a product of ours. Your GENSET is equipped with the control and protection device called GUARD TOUCH, which is developed with the latest technology and allows the operator to interact with the GENSET via the touch control system directly on the display, without using external buttons. The GUARD TOUCH device is intended to command and control the GENSET, as well as monitor and protect the motor and alternator. This device offers several uses: in MANUAL mode, by operating directly on the start and stop controls, or AUTOMATIC mode. The latter allows the start-up and operating cycles to be controlled without the operator present, by following the specifically set program. A very high level Man - Machine interface has been developed thanks to the dimensions of the display and the high performance of the microprocessor, allowing for complete, clear, intuitive communication, which can be customised according to the system requirements. A wide range of interaction with other control systems is also possible, such as with control systems of mechanically or electronically set diesel engines, gas engines, or latest generation common rail via CAN SAE J1939 communication. This manual, together with those of the engine and alternator and all the other documents delivered with the machine, are an integral part of the “Visa Generating Set” (hereinafter called GENSET). These are intended to be consulted by all those involved in the life cycle of the machine and must therefore, always be kept and made accessible to the operator. We therefore recommend each document to be read carefully. Compliance with all the safety requirements is the customer's responsibility. The GUARD TOUCH device can be highly customised and therefore, used on various types of systems. The following types are described in this manual: - SPM System (the GENSET is used with only manual control) - SPM with AUTOSTART System (the GENSET is used via remote control with external automatic systems) - SSB System (the GENSET is used in automatic service for a Mains emergency) The following extras can be added to such systems: - Automatic Loading Function of the tank - Special Functions integrated with the standard functions, on request

The GENSET is a machine intended to be used by duly trained personnel. Errors when installing or using the machine can seriously damage the user system, the machine itself or injure those involved.

There can be hazardous voltages inside the generating set and the control board even with the GENSET switched off: do not start-up, perform maintenance, repairs or alterations without specific knowledge or precise guidelines. All the operations must always be performed in compliance with the safety standards.

Read through this manual, which is attached to the GENSET user instructions. If still in doubt after having consulted this document or the GENSET user instructions, please contact the authorised GENSET service centre.

4. Using and cleaning the display

The following rules must be complied with for proper use and in order to fully appreciate the functions of the TOUCH SCREEN device.

The touch screen display must be cleaned with the GUARD TOUCH device switched off. Hazardous commands for the operators or the system powered by the GENSET could be activated if cleaned while the device is switched on.

The following must not be done on the surface of the TOUCH SCREEN:

- do not clean with organic solvents, acids or alkaline solutions; - do not clean with any chemical substance in general; - do not touch if your hands are dirty with oily substances, chemicals, glue, powder or abrasive substances; - do not use sharp objects on the surface; if anything, use special plastic pens, specific for touch screen devices; - do not go near the surface with cellular phones or appliances that are sources of electromagnetic interference.

The following must be complied with for proper use and to clean the surface of the TOUCH SCREEN: - only a clean and soft electrostatic cloth is to be used to clean the surface; - only use a cloth dampened with water, neutral detergent or ethanol.

It is important for the GENSET to be switched off and prevent it from being started up before performing any maintenance or control on it or the system it is connected to. 1. stop the unit and open the machine switch; 2. set the key to the OFF position and remove it from the control panel; 3. press the Emergency button; 4. wait for the machine to cool down; 5. open the battery cut-off switch (if installed) 6. disconnect any connection to the external network, such as preheating systems, network detection systems, battery chargers and automatic tank filling systems. WARNING: Remember that the battery cut-off switch must be opened with the motor stopped and the GUARD TOUCH device switched off. If this requirement is not complied with, damage could be caused to the battery charger alternator, such as saved data being lost.

Attention: always make sure that the GCB is in the open OFF/0 position when the GENSET is started up. Before closing the GCB by setting it to the ON/I position, always make sure there are no automatic systems connected that could start-up inadvertently and pose a risk for persons or property or maintenance is being performed on live parts.

The diagrams in this manual are purely indicative and depend on the type of system and configuration you have purchased.

The button is only active in the MAN (manual) mode. Motor rotation is implemented without starting it up when this is touched. The command is active for as long as the button is pressed and a maximum of 20 seconds. This function is useful in large capacity motors, which require filling the oil filters before being started up following maintenance. A short intermittent beep tone is emitted throughout the phases of the start-up cycle, which indicates the operation in progress.

The button is only active in the MAN (manual) mode. Press the button to consent the ECU power supply up to a maximum of 50 minutes. This function is required to power the ECU if it must be connected to the personal computer for checks reserved for motor service centres. Motor start-up can be implemented directly from the STOP ON status.

6.5. Page 4: Diagnostics via CAN-Bus Common rail motors are equipped with an ECU that continuously monitors the temperatures and pressures of the liquids and the air via various sensors in the motor, besides controlling the rotation speed and the injection process. If abnormal operating conditions occur, the ECU signals the status by generating a number of ERROR CODES. Furthermore, if these conditions are considered hazardous, it can autonomously command the motor to stop in order to prevent damage. The GUARD TOUCH device is connected to the ECU via the CAN-Bus connection. ERROR CODES (described below in detail) appear on Page 4 via SAE J1939 communication protocol. The purpose is to provide a valid support to identifying problems and faults in the motor. The operator can communicate the ERROR CODE directly to the service centre (which will immediately be able to perform a precise diagnosis and plan targeted and quick intervention). Hereunder is the description on how to read the diagnostics. The SAE Standard identifies the ERROR CODES according to the SPN and FMI classification, where:

- SPN (Suspect Parameter Number): is the numeric code that identifies where the problem signal derives from, i.e. the cause or the faulty part in the motor that triggered the error code. For example, code 174 indicates that the fuel temperature probe signals a temperature related problem.

- FMI (Fault Mode Identifier): is a numeric code from 0 to 31, which identifies the severity of the problem signalled by the SPN. For example, code 17 indicates that the fuel temperature value is slightly low compared to the normal operating values.

Four "lamps" appear on page 4/5 together with the ERROR CODES, which identify the various severity levels:

PROTECT: this lamp is used to indicate a fault in the electrical circuit. This generally occurs when the sensor malfunctions or there are interruptions in the electrical connections.

AMBER: this lamp is used to indicate that the motor is operating abnormally, however, not major enough to stop the motor. This signal generally occurs when the temperatures or pressures are slightly above or below the normal operating conditions.

RED: this lamp is used to indicate that the motor operating condition is hazardous. The motor is stopped to prevent damage. The motor is generally stopped when the temperatures or pressures are must higher or lower than the normal operating conditions.

MALFUNCTION: this lamp is used to indicate that there is problem related to emissions.

Up to 6 ERROR CODES can be displayed on Page 4; however, there may be conditions where these codes remain displayed even if the event has been resolved. In this case, simply touch

the RESET button to delete it from the page. A page with no ERROR CODES or lamps indicates that the motor is running in optimal conditions. Page 4/5 is only present if the SAE J1939 connection between the motor and the GUARD TOUCH board is used

Thanks to the SAE1939 communication protocol, the ERROR CODES can provide very precise information, which can only be interpreted correctly by the service centre of the motor manufacturer.

6.6. Page 5: SERVICE setting Page 5 is dedicated to GENSET maintenance. Hereunder are 16 different types of maintenance matched to adjustable schedules according to the operating hours or time. Access to the setting of the schedules is password-protected and the parameters can be modified or disabled.

2 = 2 free maintenance operations.

3 = Indicates the internal temperature of the electronic components of the GUARD TOUCH board.

4 = Indicates the number of opening and closing movements sent to the disconnecting devices of the MCB Mains and GCB GENSET

5 = Months Column: indicates the time left for the maintenance schedule to be due. The maximum value that can be set is 120 months. The disappearance of the negative sign (-) indicates that the set value in the countdown has elapsed. The function is only enabled if the Enabled Function flag is present.

6 = Hours column; indicates the time left for the maintenance schedule to be due. Maximum value that can be set is 10000 hours. The disappearance of the negative sign (-) indicates that the set value in the countdown has elapsed.

7 = Indicates the current calendar.

Even if all the ERROR CODES are generally provided in the motor manual, do not undertake maintenance operations but contact the authorised GENSET service centre.

The service operator who is aware of the motor and alternator characteristics can enter the maintenance program.

1 212 LCD contrast Allows the display contrast value to be adjusted. The contrast value is adjusted automatically by the internal temperature control system, however, in the event of high temperature changes, the value may have to be compensated.

Pay careful attention to the value inserted for LCD contrast regulation. Values that are too high or too low with respect to the preset standard can make the text unreadable on the display. Should it be necessary to adjust, it is strongly advised to correct a few increments/decrements at a time. It is always possible to reset the standard contrast value. Instructions for resetting as follows: :

- shut off the GUARD TOUCH device by turning the key to the 0/OFF position. (see figure on the left).

- switch on the GUARD TOUCH controller by setting the key in the 1/ON position (see figure on the left), then touch the top left hand corner of the display until the beep is heard

Examples of Weekly Test programming. The "Weekly Start" function is only active in the AUT status and has the task of forcing GENSET start-up according to the set times, even if the automatic cycle does not require it. Example a) 1st start-up Monday from 10:30 and shutdown at 12:10, 2nd start-up on the same day at 16:15 and shutdown 22:30

- set parameter 601 in “Weekly” - set parameter 611.01 to 10.30 - set parameter 611.02 to 12:10 - set parameter 611.03 to 16.15 - set parameter 611.04 to 22:30

Configured so, the GENSET is activated in two separate moments every Monday of the year. Example b) 1st start-up Tuesday from 10:30 and shutdown Wednesday at 12:10

- set parameter 601 in weekly - set parameter 612.01 to 10.30 - set parameter 612.02 to 23:59 - set parameter 613.01 to 00:00 - set parameter 613.02 to 12:10

Notes: up to a maximum of two start-ups and two shutdowns per day can be set in one or more days of the week. If only one daily test is set, the 1st or the 2nd can be chosen indistinctly; the important thing is that the start and stop values of the disabled test are set to 00:00. The function is only active in the AUT. In order to prevent start-ups at unwanted times, it is best to make sure that all the unused intervals are set to 00:00. Examples of Weekly Stop programming. The "Weekly stop" function is only active in the AUT status and has the task of preventing the GENSET from starting up automatically, even if the other automatic functions require it. Example a) 1st forced stop Monday from 10:30 to 12:10, 2nd stop on the same day from 16:15 to 22:30

- set parameter 620 in “Enable” - set parameter 621.01 to 10:30 - set parameter 621.02 to 12:10 - set parameter 611.03 to 16:15 - set parameter 611.04 to 22:30

Configured so, the GENSET remains stopped in two periods every Monday. Example b) 1st forced stop Tuesday from 10:30 to Wednesday at 12:10

- set parameter 620 in “Enable” - set parameter 622.01 to 10:30 - set parameter 622.02 to 23:59 - set parameter 623.01 to 00:00 - set parameter 623.02 to 12:10

In order to prevent stops at unwanted times, it is best to make sure that all the unused intervals are set to 00:00. Examples of Periodic Test programming. The "Periodic Test" function is only active in the AUT status and has the task of forcing the GENSET to start up according to the set times even if the Automatic cycle does not require it. Example: start-up every 3 weeks on Monday from 10:30 to 12:10.

- set parameter 601 in "Periodic" - set parameter 603 to "3" - set parameter 604 to "Monday" - set parameter 605 to 10:30 - set parameter 606 to 12:10
