Guard

I replaced our smoke alarms yesterday. I smoked the kitchen up pretty good last weekend when the pizza I was cooking dripped cheese to the bottom of the oven. The silent smoke alarm caused me to run a test and it failed the test. The Bible warns us often about being on our guard and making sure we do not fail the test. The New American Standard Bible will translate four different Greek words in the New Testament with the English word “guard.” • Blepo—to see, understand, be aware of. In Mark 13:9 Jesus tells his disciples to “be on

their guard” concerning the things they will suffer in following him. • Phulasso—guard, protect, watch over, observe. We are to guard ourselves from every form

of greed. Elders are to guard the flock. Timothy was told to guard what was entrusted to him. We are to guard that we are not carried away by unprincipled people.

• Phroureo—guard, keep watch over, keep under control, restrain. The peace of God will

guard, keep under control or restrain us (Phil. 4:7) • Prosecho—give heed to, pay attention to. Guard or pay attention to this. If your brother

sins, rebuke him, if he repents, forgive him. Also pay attention to yourself that you are not weighted down by drunkenness or the cares of this life.

We must keep guard over ourselves to make sure we do not fail the test. -Dewayne

WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?

Psalm 19:3-4 “They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,” In a couple of our classes we are studying the Will of God. This verse was used last Sunday, and it made me think about what am I saying when I don’t use words. The psalmist is talking about God’s magnificent creation and how they talk to us by just standing there. By us taking the time to observe them, we can understand that they are talking about God. They are telling us about God’s magnificent power and holiness. As one of God’s creations what are we proclaiming? What are we saying? If every creation is saying magnificent things about God, what am I saying when I don’t open my mouth? What do the people around me hear about God when I’m not speaking? The verse continues saying that their voice goes into all the earth. To every person that we interact, what is the message they are hearing? They need to hear the magnificent things of God. They need to see our lives as an example to imitate. They need to see our lives as an example to follow and they need to see in our lives the existence of God! They need to see in us the love of Jesus, and they need to see in us the transformation that the Holy Spirit has made in us. -David

Dear Riverchase Family, Thank you to everyone for the prayers, flowers, cards and calls in the loss of our mother/grandmother. Your love and support is what got us through a very sad time. Thank you so much, Tammy & Kayla Tamez

Dear Riverchase Family, Words can not express the love we have been given from this congregation at the passing of my mom. We appreciate the food, cards, and flowers, but especially the prayers and concern that were expressed over and over during Mom’s illness and then for our family at her passing. Mom and Dad loved Riverchase and Riverchase loved them. They were so happy to be a part of a family that truly showed Christ in their deeds. Thank you so much, Bryan, Pat, Bryan Lee and Bethany Parker
