A day in the life at Camp:

The Sun is rising at camp, time to start a new advEnture.

Girls start their day with a flag ceremony and any important announcements. After some girl-led planning at the beginning of the week, a patrol of girls will attend the programs they signed up for; arts & crafts, nature, swimming, paddle boarding, hiking, outdoor survival skills and more. Girls will fill their schedule with everything they want to do at camp during the week they are here. Girls will build friendships, try new things and seek new experiences. At the end of the day, girls end with a closing flag ceremony before dinner or before they go home. Tomorrow’s adventure is on the horizon.

How to RegisterTo avoid disappointment, register early! Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and specialty programs* fill early! The deadline for summer camp 2016 registration is June 15, 2016. A late fee of $25 will be incurred if payment and paperwork are not submitted by June 15, 2016. We will accept late registrations through the summer, but cannot guarantee availability. *Specialty programs are paid in full upon registration. Complete the registration form(s) found here or on our website, www.gsneny.org , or through our ONLINE registration system. Please include your non-refundable $25 deposit per camp program to: GSNENY, 8 Mountain View Avenue, Albany, NY 12205. All camp registrations will increase by $25 after June 15, 2016 and full payment must accompany registrations. Registrations may be faxed to 518.489.8065 if the deposit is going to be charged to one of the following: Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover. Cookie credit will not be accepted for deposit payment. Any registration submitted without the deposit and all completed paperwork will not be processed. If your camper is not currently a registered Girl Scout member, please complete the necessary membership paperwork and submit with the $15 membership fee.

Sisters & Multi-Week Discount

Payment ScheduleGirl GrantsA $25.00 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your Girl Scout’s spot. Flexible payment arrangements are available. Full payment for all camp programs is due on June 15, 2016. If the balance of the camp fees is not received by the due date, your reservation will be returned less the non-refundable deposit and your reserved spot will be offered to a girl on the waiting list. Payment may be made by money order, check, or credit card. Cookie credits may be applied toward any of your camp registration fees, excluding the $25 non-refundable deposit.

Financial Assistance is available to all Girl Scouts who would like to attend GSNENY summer camp and are unable to afford the cost of the camp. Complete the Girl Grant Application, using only one form per girl. All applications must be attached to the registration form. A non-refundable deposit of $25 must accompany the camper registration and Girl Grant application. Girl Grants are available to registered Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York only. Girl Grants will only be awarded for one camp session, one per camper. The deadline for all applications is May 15, 2016. Visit http://gsneny.org/forms/financial-assistance/

One discount may be applied per household per summer session. It is at the discretion of each family to choose the

discount they would like to apply when initially registering their Girl Scouts for camp. Please indicate which discount

Programs run rain or shine unless inclement weather would prevent a program from running. Families will be contacted should cancellations occur during the day of a program.

GSNENY reserves the right to cancel any specialty program. If GSNENY cancels the specialty program for any reason, you will receive a full refund.

Refunds for medical reasons will be processed only if the notification is made in writing prior to the start of the program and the written request is accompanied by an original physician’s statement. If a camper

Under no circumstances will camp fees be refunded if a camper chooses to leaves camp after the start of the session or if a camper leaves camp due to homesickness, parental request, or behavioral issues. If a camper must attend summer school, a refund will be issued with a written refund request and verified with an original statement from the school.

Camp Is-Sho-da is the best of both worlds! Tucked

away in East Greenbush, this camp includes a

private lake for boating, paddle boarding, fishing

& swimming and is located just east of Albany

(accessible from all points in the capital region).

With transportation options available from the

capital district and beyond, getting to camp has

never been so easy! Camp Is-Sho-Da offers large

playing fields for exciting games like kickball and

other sports, separate centers for nature and

art, and other specialty programs. This year will

feature a brand new Gaga Pit!

Camp WOODHAVENNestled in Galway this camp is beautiful

and easy to get to! At Camp Woodhaven,

we have a beautiful lake fully equipped with

boats and paddle boards. We also have an

amazing play field, observation deck and arts

& crafts building. New this year, Woodhaven

will be receiving a Gaga Pit! Transportation

is provided from Schenectady, Ballston Spa,

ONLY! When you arrive at Silver Bay, you will meet

Paine Hall, our private house for the

week. At camp, campers will have the

opportunity to swim, hike, participate

in arts & crafts and more. It’s everything you

can do at regular camp and more! Silver Bay will

provide you with other awesome opportunities

throughout your week that you can plan to do with

your counselor and group. With 18 years of Girl

Scouts at Silver Bay, and still running strong,

Dropping off your daughter during session 1 at Hidden Lake?* Join us for some family fun to celebrate the 4th of July Holiday! *Camper’s cost included with registration. Family registration form for the BBQ will be sent separately in the camp confirmation email. Available to families attending session one.

Hidden Lake is a resident camp located

in Lake George. It offers amazing

opportunities for girls to be girls,

learn life skills and appreciate

the outdoors. Hidden Lake Camp

has two mountain hikes from within camp and

another short hike over to Badger Ocean. Camp

also has water sports that include kayaks, canoes,

rowboats and paddle boards, arts & crafts, nature,

low ropes course, high ropes course and more.

Girls can customize their experience each week by

adding specialty programs to their visit! Meals are

served family style.

LAKE CLEAR CAMP Resident CampLake Clear, NY

Lake Clear Camp is situated right on Lake Clear, between Saranac Lake Village and Paul Smith’s College. Lake Clear camp has amazing views of the high peaks of the Adirondacks in the distance and plenty of activities. Campers will have access to activities including kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, arts & crafts, nature, games, visits to the nearby Wild Center, Paul Smith’s Visitor’s Interpretive Center along with lots of Adirondack hiking trails. Well into the Adirondacks, this camp has a lot to offer!

WEEK 1Museum ExplorersJUNIOR/CADETTECost $20 During your first week, you’ll be heading off-camp to explore two different museum/galleries! Since this is a girl-led program YOU will get the opportunity to choose the places you would like to go from a list of museums in the area! Together, we will plan your schedule for a fun filled week!

WEEK 1Pen and Ink, Sketch and CreateJUNIOR/CADETTECost: $20 Calling all artists! In this program campers get to create and draw side by side with a few artists with Pen and Ink. Working with these drawing artists will help you complete the badge requirements for the appropriate age level! Juniors will earn the Legacy Drawing Badge. Cadettes will earn the Legacy Cartoonist Badge

WEEK 2Sky ZoneCADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADORCost $20Trampoline parks are all the rage right now! You and your group will participate in the open jump for about 90 minutes, have some pizza and drinks. You will have full access to all Sky Zone activities, including the Main Court, the Foam Zone, Ultimate Dodgeball, Sky Slam, and more! *Waiver is required to participate in this adventure.

WEEK 2HorsemanshipBROWNIE/JUNIORCost: $50Visit nearby Aering Green Equestrian stables for a two hour program with horses! You will have the opportunity to ride and groom these amazing animals along with learning how to care for them. This is a beginner level program! *Waiver is required to participate in this adventure. *This is a two hour program on one day during the week. *Juniors will earn the NEW Horseback Riding badges.

WEEK 3Drama Program: Travels of AnanseDAISY/BROWNIECost: $20 Travel with us as we create our own adventure with Ananse the Spider. Ananse is a popular mischievous character in Caribbean and African folk tales. We will write and rehearse our own play based on an Ananse story, create their costumes, props, and scenery. This all leads to our big performance on Friday!

WEEK 3Just DanceDAISY/BROWNIE/JUNIOR/CADETTECost: $20 Dancing is such a fun form of expression and you’ll be doing just that in this program! You’ll get to learn new dance moves and work with campers on a short choreographed dance number, which you can perform. The instructor will visit camp and work with Daisies/Brownies and then Juniors/Cadettes. With a professional dancer from Eba Dance studio, fun and learning about dance is bound to be had!

WEEK 4Geocaching AdventurerJUNIOR/CADETTECost: $10Campers get ready to learn how to use a handheld GPS System to find hidden treasures! Once you feel comfortable programming and using the GPS, you’ll get to leave camp to find caches that other geocachers have hidden. Together, you and your group will work from geocaching.com to choose what nearby caches you want to hunt for! *Waiver is required to participate in this adventure.

WEEK 4Aerial & Zipline AdventuresCADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADORCost: $135Ready to tap into your adventurous side? Then you are going to love this new addition to camp! You’llbe leaving camp twice this week to visit Hunter Mountain and Catamount Aerial Adventure Park for some extreme fun. Once outfitted in your safety gear, you’ll be zip lining, crossing rope bridges, climbing aerial tree platforms and much more! *Waivers are required in order to participate in this adventure.

WEEK 5Horseback Riding BROWNIE/JUNIORCost: $75 Interested in the next level of Horseback Riding? In this program campers will have the opportunity to have group riding lessons with a professional instructor from Aering Green Equestrian Stables. They will also continue learning about horse care and grooming. They will create a mock horse show with the instructor. *PRE-REQUISITE: Horsemanship Program. *Waiver is required to participate in this adventure. Juniors will earn the NEW Horseback Riding badge

WEEK 5White Water RaftingJUNIOR/CADETTECost: $15Ready for a wet and wild adventure? Campers will be traveling to Beaver Brook Outfitters in Lake George to take a 2 hour white water rafting trip! WEEK 2HorsemanshipBROWNIE/JUNIOR Cost: $50 If you love horses or want to learn more about them then this program is for you. Campers will travel to Renegade Farms for a 1.5 hour horsemanship lesson. You’ll split up your time with 45 minutes learning how to ride and the other 45 minutes learning all about horse care and grooming. A perfect balance of learning and fun!*Waiver is required to participate in this adventure.

WEEK 2Herkimer Diamond Mine AdventureBROWNIE/JUNIOR Cost: $30 Are you interested in looking for hidden treasures? At the Herkimer Diamond mine, campers will mine for crystals and learn about the history of the mines excavation. They will have their own tools and see what they can find. If they find crystals, they get to take them home with them!

Rock OnCADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADORCost: $80 Join us on some rock climbing adventures! We will set out on 2 trips this week. WEEK 5Drama Program: Travels of Ananse DAISY/BROWNIE Cost: $20 Travel with us as we create our own adventure with Ananse the Spider. Ananse is a popular mischievous character in Caribbean and African folk tales. We will write and rehearse our own play based on an Ananse story, create their costumes, props, and scenery. This all leads to our big performance on Friday!

Lake Clear camp add-on Specialty Programs

WEEK 1 Intro to SailingJUNIOR/CADETTECost: $50 Welcome to Lake Clear’s NEW sailing program! We are really excited to be purchasing some new sail boats and teaching campers how to sail. This beginners’ sailing program will cover the basics of sailing terminology, getting into the Sailboat and discovering Lake Clear in a new way. Campers will learn from a trained sailing instructor all the basics!

WEEK 1Saranac Lake Camp Out CADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADOR Cost $50Campers, get ready for a camping adventure! You’ll be camping out for 2 nights with opportunities to explore Saranac Lake by walking and canoeing. You’ll help plan and pack for this amazing trip! You’ll start off by learning some canoeing basics and techniques before setting out to nearby Saranac Lake, where you’ll be paddling to an island location. *Waiver will be required in order to participate in this program.

WEEK 2 Rail Explorers BROWNIE/JUNIOR Cost: $25Campers, in this program, you’ll be heading to Charlies Inn to learn about biking on the rail road tracks. You’ll be seated and will have to work together as a team to pedal the bikes down the railroad tracks. You’ll travel from Lake Clear to Saranac Lake Rail station and then catch a shuttle back!

WEEK 246er OvernightCADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADOR Cost: $30 Get ready to learn about hiking and all about the Adirondacks in this overnight adventure.Begin by planning, preparing, and packing for your overnight trip to one of the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondacks. WEEK 3Olympic TourBROWNIE/JUNIOR Cost: $40 Time to get that passport ready....the Olympic Passport that is! An Olympic Passport will be purchased for those attending this Olympic tour of beautiful Lake Placid, with the opportunity for campers to choose some of their own places to go to as well! What’s even better is the passports are good for one year, so the campers can return with their families and give them an Olympic tour or visit sites that they did not get a chance to see!

Week 3Sailing 1CADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSDOR Cost: $50 Campers will spend the week learning about sailing on NEW Sunfish Sailboats and sail around Lake Clear. Campers will be working with a Sailing instructor to learn and demonstrate skills as well as learn sailing safety and how to get back on the Sailboat if it blows over.

WEEK 4Primitive CamperCADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADOR Cost: $75Campers, here’s your chance to work with a “Becoming A Woodswoman” BOW professionalfrom Saranac Lake and learn the basics of primitive camping. You will learn how to read a map and compass, and all about Backpacking and Wilderness Essentials. At camp, you’ll learn GPS and leave no trace before you go to a primitive area of camp and participate in a wilderness overnight adventure!

Week 4Rock ClimberCADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADOR Cost: $120 Join us on some rock climbing adventures! We will set out on 2 off site rock climbing trips this week. We will meet up with the High Peaks Cyclery, where campers will be outfitted in all their safety gear before driving off to a climbing location in the High Peaks area. Leader in Action (LiA) The Leader in Action Award is a Journey Related Award for Cadette Girls Only. Girls will work with a brownie patrol to earn one of their Journey Awards in the appropriate theme It’s your Planet, It’s your Story and/or It’s your World. Girls only need to complete 1 LiA in order to move on to program Aide. *Cadettes will earn the LiA award for the appropriate journey

Program Aide (PA)Cadette girls can earn their Program Aide Pin. Girls will further develop their leadership skills with multiple age groups at camp by offering a variety of programs to other girls. Girls participating in this program will also receive 25 Service Hours at camp.**PRE-REQUISITE: LiA Award (Leader in Action Award)

Counselor-In-Training 1 Modules (CIT 1)Counselor in Training 1 is a program is for Seniors and Ambassadors (Girls entering 9th- 12th Grade) This program consists of 4 Modules which girls will need to complete in order to earn their Counselor in Training 1 Pin. Counselors in Training 1 Pins are the only award recognized for Seniors & Ambassadors at Camp by GSUSA. *Girls must complete all 4 modules to earn CITI pin.

Module 1: Leadership at CampIn this program, girls will learn about their leadership styles in a camp setting. They will participate in team building activities; learn how to be a positive role model and mentor. Girls will participate in discussions about what it means to be a Camp Counselor and what their role at camp would be like.

Module 2: Leadership at WorkIn this program, girls will learn more about what it is like to be a counselor. Girls will talk about age groups and how girls’ needs are different at each level. They will talk with other counselors and learn about their experiences as well as have an opportunity to shadow a counselor for a day and work with a group of girls.

Module 3: Program is KeyIn this program, girls will learn about the programs offered at camp, what girl led/ girl planned programming means. Girls will learn about programs they can provide to the girls that don’t require a sign up. Girls will learn how to teach fire building, games and songs to enhance the campers experience at camp.

Module 4: Putting it All TogetherIn this program, girls will focus on using the skills they have learned in the previous three modules. Girls will spend the week shadowing different counselors and program staff so that they have an all-encompassing view of what it means to be a counselor at camp.

Counselor in Training 2 (CIT 2)Counselor in Training 2 program is available to Ambassadors Only (Girls entering 11th or 12th Grade). This program is the last step in leadership at camp before girls are old enough to become staff. Girls participating in this program will work directly under the supervision of a Unit Counselor and CIT. Together the Unit Counselor and participant will lead a patrol of girls through Girl Led, Girl Planned processes, be with the girls in their day to day activities and assist in providing quality programs to the girls.

*Please note that while a girl will be working with other counselors and staff, they are still considered campers. This program is designed to teach the girls how to work with girls and other staff members. Girls participating in this program will not be left alone in direct supervision of girls. A qualified staff member must be present at all times.

*Girls interested in the CIT2 program will need to fill out the CIT2 application to be considered for this program. All applications will be reviewed by the appropriate Camp Director and the GSNENY Camp Department. These applications are due by May 15, 2016. This will ensure the review of your application, interview process and time for the appropriate paperwork to be submitted.

Waterfront in Training 1 (WIT1):Waterfront in Training 1 is a leadership program for Seniors & Ambassadors. Red Cross requires that girls be 15+ when acquiring their waterfront certifications. This program focuses on becoming Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR For the Professional Rescuer Certified. Girls will focus on learning the skills for both certifications.

Waterfront in Training 2 (WIT2):Waterfront in Training 2 is a leadership program for Seniors & Ambassadors, centering on the Red Cross Small Craft Safety Course. They will be required to demonstrate skills and pass the written test. When they are not practicing their boating skills, girls will be able to use their lifeguarding training and assist in waterfront supervision. *PRE-REQUISITE: WIT 1

Summer Camp 2016 Leadership Opportunities*

Girls attending leadership programs do not pay the regular camp fee. Leadership programs are offered at a lower price to encourage girls to attend leadership programs and learn skills needed to be successful in their future.
