Under the umbrella of “Social Impact Programs,” we anticipate serving 2,000 girls, including girls in the foster care system, during the current program year through the programs below. GIRL SCOUTS BEYOND BARS (GSBB) GSBB equips girls whose mothers are incarcerated with the tools they’ll need to succeed, while strengthening the mother/daughter bond. Mothers and daughters take an active role in planning and implementing their Girl Scout Leadership Experience, a process that fosters life skills and personal growth. After release, they can continue to participate in community troop meetings, making Girl Scouting a consistent and supportive presence in their lives. GIRL SCOUTS YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AND SUPPORT (GSYES) Through GSYES we provide a range of free services to girls residing in low-income or underserved neighborhoods and girls in foster care through staff- led troops. Studies by the Girl Scouts Research Institute (GSRI) shows that Girl Scouting influences academic success as much as, and sometimes more than, non-Girl Scout factors that are known to impact academics, such as positive relationships with teachers and other extracurricular activities. GIRL SCOUTS IN DETENTION CENTERS (GSDC) GSDC serves girls in the juvenile justice system, including those in secure detention, in residential treatment, on probation, at alternative high schools, and in community troops after their release. As the only national gender-specific program serving this population, GSDC encourages girls to view themselves as leaders full of potential. The program addresses prevalent issues including education, health, homelessness, gang activity, substance abuse, violence, and sexual exploitation. Girl Scouting challenges girls to nurture their inner leadership skills and break dangerous cycles of behavior. 82.5% of girls agree they are doing better in school since they’ve been in GSBB. SOCIAL IMPACT Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) 81.5% of girls agree they now have a better relationship with their mother.

GIRL SCOUTS BEYOND BARS (GSBB)GSBB equips girls whose mothers are incarcerated with the tools they’ll need to succeed, while strengthening the mother/daughter bond. Mothers and daughters take an active role in planning and implementing their Girl Scout

Leadership Experience, a process that fosters life skills and personal growth. After release, they can continue to participate in community troop meetings, making Girl Scouting a consistent and supportive presence in their lives.

GIRL SCOUTS IN DETENTION CENTERS (GSDC)GSDC serves girls in the juvenile justice system, including those in secure detention, in residential treatment, on probation, at alternative high schools, and in community troops after their release.

As the only national gender-specific program serving this population, GSDC encourages girls to view themselves as leaders full of potential. The program addresses prevalent issues including education, health, homelessness, gang activity, substance abuse, violence, and sexual exploitation. COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED Because of the initial start-up and continued support required, we estimate it costs an extra $535 per girl per year in these Social Impact troops. Over the next three years, we aim to increase the number of girls reached to over 3,000. With support from the community, we can serve more girls in a shorter timeframe. We know that investing in girls will produce a great return in economic development, social progress and public health, improving not only individual lives but the fabric of society overall.
