Issue Statement: Southwest Florida is faced with

impaired water bodies; a lack of stormwater

storage and groundwater recharge; and a loss of

both habitat and wildlife corridor connectivity.

Identifying Solutions: Regional partnership with

multiple public agencies/private entities to

proactively plan for:

water quality enhancements

storage solutions

recharge solutions

increased habitat

and enhanced wildlife corridor connectivity.

Regional Issue:Water

Environmental Impacts on

Caloosahatchee River

Watersheds have a need for improved water quality

The estuarine portion of the Caloosahatchee River has nitrogen impairment

Load Allocation to nonpoint sources (including Ag and non-MS4 stormwater) also have the same 23%

requirement.

Unbalanced seasonal freshwater flows

Page 7: GS -10 Caloosahatchee Cross-link Project...2015/08/06  · restoring hydro periods, flows Increased greenspace Restored Habitat and Connectivity GS-10 Caloosahatchee Cross-link Project

Regional Issue:Habitat

Development has eliminated habitat

Comprehensive effort to link parcels

Regional partners needed to make a larger, more timely impact

Page 8: GS -10 Caloosahatchee Cross-link Project...2015/08/06  · restoring hydro periods, flows Increased greenspace Restored Habitat and Connectivity GS-10 Caloosahatchee Cross-link Project

How do we make a change?

Regional private/public agency partnership

Proactively plan to reduce negative impacts on the Caloosahatchee River
