About the Academy

Shankar Mahadevan Academy was founded under the guidance and leadership of the award-winning composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan. The Academy brings high quality Indian music education online for the first time. The Academy also delivers courses in classrooms in its own centers, schools corporates and other centers around the world.

We believe that music education is not limited to the few who can sing well. Music nurtures skills in every child which will be beneficial throughout their life. We want every child to appreciate music and take away life skills which will stay with them always.


What is Grow with Music?

The Academy's fundamental underlying philosophy of teaching and learning music lies in experiencing the "Joy of Music".

Grow with Music is a program a structured and progressive curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in music for children.The main focus of learning is vocal music accompanied by exposure to various instrument families and some music theory.

The program will culminate in a performance, either as a part of an annual day in schools or as showcase to the learning.The performance idea, planning and execution will be done through the program

The Grow with Music program has been successfully delivered to nearly 4000 children in schools all over the country.


Learning Outcomes

• Students understand the basic elements of music- Beat & its Patterns, Pitch, Notes and their Patterns, Dynamics, Articulation, Mood and Emotion in music and how each element changes the flavor of a musical piece

• Students acquire a repertoire of songs from diverse genres and build an appreciation for diverse cultures

• Students will be aware of the different kind of musical choices that they can pursue individually

• Students develop social skills like communication, confidence and presentation by engaging in musical performances

Grow with Music - Delivery Methodologies

Grow with Music can be made available to students as part of their academic curriculum or as an after-school hobby class.This program is available for pre-KG, KG1, KG2, Grade 1 to Grade 9.

Academic Year Program

This is a 34-week program offered to all students as part of the school curriculum

• 24 weeks of instructions - 6 concepts - 4 weeks per concept• 9 weeks of performance rehearsals• 1 performance• Weekly one class of 45 minutes


Grow with Music - Delivery Methodologies

After School Hobby Program

This program is held after the school hours for children who want to opt formusic as a hobby class.

• There are 4 levels based on age:• Level 1 – Age 2.5 to 4• Level 2 – Age 4+ to 6• Level 3 – Age 6 + to 8• Level 4 – Age 8+ to 10

• Each level will have 3 sets or modules• Each module is for 3 months or 12 weeks• 10 weeks of instructions - 5 concepts - 2 weeks per concept• 1 week of rehearsal and 1 week of performance• Weekly once class of 45 minutes

All Grow with Music Programs offer:

● Online Music Book (OM Book) - a multi-media music available online 24/7 ○ Contains all the lesson plans, curriculum, audio and video recordings of

lessons with lyrics○ Each student has 24x7 access to the OM Book via a unique login and

password○ A dedicated practice page where the child can sing and record the song and

have a self assessment, peer assessment and teacher assessment○ Each music teacher has online access to curriculum and teaching aids

designed by the Academy● Online support to students and parents● Regular reviews and trainings by the Academy for Music teachers● Grading and assessment for students

Flank with Music ™ is a simple but powerfully creative an idea that flanks time periods with music. The project calls for replacing the school bell with a Public Address or Sound system, playing specific music when necessary to signify the start/end of a school session, recessed/lunch break, and class periods.
