  • Introduction:

    A smile goes a long way. When a person smiles at you, it probably would not even cross our minds to question whether or not that person is happy. Having good communication skills will help you a lot in the life and career. While communication skills, verbal and written are considered is an important research point out that non-verbal gestures occupy a volume a significant percentage of the daily communication of us. But it is also can cause misunderstanding. So that, today our group will talk about misunderstanding based on differences in nonverbal communication.

  • II. Content :Definition of nonverbal communication: Nonverbal communication is the process of communication through sending and receiving wordless cues between people such as facial expressions , tone and volume of voice, touch, eyes, symbol , the body signals ,as well as less obvious messages such as dress, posture and spatial distance between two or more people.

  • 2.The five characteristics of nonverbal communication( NVC)

    NVC is present in most interpersonal conversations, including cyberspace communication with the use of emotion.NVC often conveys more information than verbal communication. NVC is usually believed over verbal communication.NVC is the primary means of communicating emotion.NVC is meta communicative.

  • 3.In communication, people often use some types of nonverbal behavior: Body language include gesture, posture, head and hand movements or whole body language.

  • Facial expression can be conveyed with a smile or a frown.

  • Eye contact

  • Touch

  • Gestures

  • All of things, nonverbal communication is very important in daily life. Moreover, different countries have different culture, different using and meaning of nonverbal behavior. When they communication, they do not translate across cultures easily and can lead to serious misunderstanding.

  • For example:A smile is one of the most common examples of a facial expression in differ cultures.Russian do not smile. Because it is considered strange and even impolite.American smile freely strangers.

  • Hands waves used for greeting, beckoning, or farewell.Italian: good byeAmerican: come hereAsian, they use it for calling a animal.

  • Touching:American likes touch people while they talk and give hug to everyone they know and kiss their cheek.Asian dont like it. They feel weird to hug people and cheek to cheek social kiss.

  • Eye contact is one of the forms of nonverbal communication where the differences are most striking.South American during their communication they like has eye contact, smiling. They have about a foot of stand distance while talking. Asian is not. They feel uncomfortable of direct eye contact..

  • III.Recommendations:As a result, generate different interpretations and cause unnecessary misunderstanding band conflict. Solution: research the link that exists between communication, language, gestures, culture and the background from which people come. - It is importance of learning, knowing, interacting with other people and respecting their culture in order to reach a mutual understanding.
