Descriptive Adjective
Add detail or description to the noun.
The tall man thought he could reach the top shelf of the bookcase. TALL describes the subject MAN and TOP describes
the direct object SHELF.After the difficult surgery, the famous
doctors to a nap. DIFFICULT modifies the object of the preposition
SURGERY and FAMOUS describes the subject DOCTOR.
Predicative Adjectives
Follow a linking verb (after the verb BE, SEEM, LOOK etc).
People are interested in this game. ARE is a linking verb connecting the subject PEOPLE
with its descriptor of equal weight INTERESTED.The two teams look very similar in the tempo
that they play. LOOK is a linking verb connecting the subject TEAMS
with its descriptor of equal weight SIMILAR.
Personal Titles
Titles such as Mr., Mrs., Auntie, Uncle, Dr and Lord are attached in front of a name.
Did you visit Uncle Neil on your way back home?
“Uncle” is an adjective.
Possessive Adjective
Indicate possession.
Do not touch my diary. It is personal. “My” is the adjective.
Few other examples of possessive adjectives are “your”, “his”, “her”, “our”, “their”, etc.
Demonstrative Adjective
Demonstrate or indicate certain things.
Parents of only those students, who have not managed to pass in all subjects, will have to come for tomorrow’s parents-teachers meeting.
“Those” is a form of demonstrative adjective.
Other such adjectives are “that”, “these”, “this”, etc.
