Before beginning reading, pose these questions to the
children:
Who are the author and illustrator?
What do you think the story will be about? What do you know about giants?
Read pages 1 and 2. Encourage children to read as much
of the text independently as possible.
Re-read the text to them. Please do not read ahead, as
some of the questions involve the children making
predictions.
Complete the questions relating to pages 1 and 2 of The
Smartest Giant in Town in the attached study guide.

paper.

Ask your child to correct any mistakes. Talk about what
they found tricky.
