Introduction:
Our design comprises of a 3‐pinned portal frame structure for the warehouse. The columns and beams for it are steel I‐sections and the floor is a concrete screed flooring. As for the offices and showroom we adopted steel I‐sections for the beams and columns and for the flooring we opted to go with the option of a raised floor which comprises of glulam and steel decking as requested by the client
The warehouse spans 40mx60mx10m with no internal columns whereas the office is 5mx24mx40m on both floors and the showroom is 8mx24mx40m with 6 internal columns on all floors.
Advantages of adopting this design:
Pressure/Suction: As there will be a force of suction/pressure when the warehouse doors are open, rafter stays have been provided to prevent the rafter from failing.
Stability (warehouse): Steel cross‐bracing system has been implemented at 15m intervals on the north & south of the structure and at 20m intervals on the west and east of the structure to provide stability.
Stability (offices/showroom): The lift core will act as a form of stability system which will comprise of steel. It will also consist of masonry cladding as requested by the client. As this core will provide torsion on the other side of the building, Ancon tension system has been implemented to curb this whilst still maintaining aesthetics.
Economic benefits: by using steel beams & columns it is possible to use smaller sections in comparison to concrete & this in turn reduces cost.
Multiple trade avoidance: By constructing a vast majority of the structure in the same material there won’t be an issue of one contractor waiting for another to finish i.e. multiple trade avoidance.
Health and Safety: As the steel on site is pre‐fabricated, this reduces site activity & therefore contributes to safety on the construction site.
Also, as temporary restraints are provided during construction before the bracing is set up, this prevents the structure from collapsing.
Sustainability: As smaller sections are needed to take big loads, this has a positive impact on the cost as well as the environment.
Acoustics: The raised floors in the offices and showroom is insulated. This implementation not only help regulate temperature but also contributes towards the acoustics.

APPENDIXCMethodologyProgramme
Construction methodology
Retaining wall ‐Standard Mix Lean concrete of 5 cm which provides
uniform surface to the retaining walls concrete and to
prevent the direct contact of the concrete to the soil and cure
‐Brick layer to form a wall between the retaining wall and soil
and single coated with bitumen.
‐Reinforcement tied the at the base and wall.
‐Concrete casted.
‐Waterproofing the wall.
Show Room & Office Building
Detailed Connections for building.
(a) Shear connection to be made with 2 angles or a tab plate
4. Insert Bracings in North and Southbracings
5. Attach roof beams to columns 6. Connection between roof beams
7.Attach beam to Column 8. Install Drainage pipe on beams 9. Screw Bracings in place for rails and crosssections to go in place
10. Put the rails and cross sections in place and bolt
wielded to column (b) 2 angle wielded to beam web and field wielded to column (c) Shear bolts hold beam in place until wields are made (d) Stabilizing angle (e) Seat angle carries shear load
‐Steel slabs in are bolted and wielded to each other
and bolted to the beams.
‐Cross bracing placement in the building.
Raised floor on top of the steel slab
Engineered wood flooring by Placing spacers inside the expansion gap – the space between the wall and floor that allows for wood expansion from heat and humidity. Pre‐drill nail holes 1/4 inch from the narrow side of the plank at 1/2 inch from the wall. Continue at 6‐inch intervals for the length of each board.
Stair and Lift core
Lift
‐Lay brick masonry cladding
‐Guide Rail Brackets to steel partitions
‐Support rails and attached to the beams and masonry
‐Setup steel from the ground floor to the second
‐Floor and install Piston Jack
‐Assemble platform and pump
‐Cab and Doors
Stair
‐Place Steel column support in place
‐Put steel steps in place and bolt them to the
beams and columns then wield.
Roof (Timber flat roof)
‐Tape Vapour barrier on the steel deck
‐Tape the Insulation on top of the Vapour barrier on the steel deck.
‐Put the roof membrane in place and the on top of the timber beams.
Cladding and Doors
Tie the Aluminum excursions to the Rafters and
attach them to the beams and columns.
Warehouse
‐Use all terrain crane to lift and put the pre‐fabricated
steel columns and horizontal steel supports in place so
they can be bolted to the Base plate.
‐Lift and put the rafters of the 3 pinned portal frame in
and bolt them together with each other and place the
Eaves haunch in place to tie them with the columns.
‐Place and tie the vertical steel piles on the top of the
rafters and bolt them together
‐Put the purlins, side rails in place and the cross bracing on top of the steel piles and bolt the down.
Lay and bolt steel roof sheeting on top of the
cross bracing and rafters and bolt them down.
‐Mix and cast concrete of a large bulk with a big mixer
while a boom operated laser machine makes the floor
level.
‐Lay brick masonry between steel columns to 3 meters
by using a cement/aggregate mix.
‐Install the Insulated composite cladding around the warehouse starting from the top end of the brickwork 10m by 6m for the ware house doors.
‐Install the pre‐fabricated sliding doors.
