    Extensive research and development has allowed AlltecCorporation to create a lightweight and low wind loading ESEsystem to provide a safe and efficient manner of controllingdangerous lightning energy before it damages structures or itsimportant contents, including human occupants. By utilizingadvanced technology, TerraStreamer® ESEs provide lightningprotection to facilities that would otherwise be difficult or costprohibitive to protect by conventional means.

    The TerraStreamer® ESE Terminals are externally mounted,proactive, structural lightning protection devices and aredesigned to activate in the moments directly preceding animminent direct strike. The installation of a TerraStreamer® ESETerminal combines the best advantages of two systems: thedirect path to ground of a conventional lightning protectionsystem, and state-of-the-art ESE technology employed in theTerraStreamer’s internal design. These combined advantagesensure that the TerraStreamer® ESE System provides a securezone of protection.

    TerraStreamer® ESEs are made of non-corrosive materials,utilize advance and sustainable technologies, maintain a 5-yearreplacement warranty, and are independently tested certified

    The ESE Principle

    The principle of operation for ESE terminals is to create anupward propagating streamer earlier than conventional airterminals or other objects on the earth. TerraStreamer® doesthis by collecting and storing ground charge during the initialphase of a thunderstorm development.

    Once a thunderstorm begins creating downward step leaders,the ambient electric field intensity in the area of the ESEterminal increases. When this electric field intensifies, it triggersthe terminal to release the stored ground charge, forming anupward streamer microseconds earlier than other objects inthe immediate area.

    This development of an upward streamer earlier in time andspace ensures that the TerraStreamer® ESE terminal will be thetarget of the developing lightning strike. The selection of theTerraStreamer® model, placement, and mounting height abovethe protected area all factor into formulas calculating thedimensions of the protection area.

    FRP M A S TAlltec Corporation FRP masts are comprised of a combination ofa polymer (plastic) matrix and glass fiber reinforcement materials.Such composites provide a wide range of desirable mechanicalproperties and durability including: exceptional tensile, flexural,impact, and overall compressive strengths. This makes Alltec’s FRPsystem ideal for use in mast supports for Early Streamer Emission(ESE) lightning protection systems and other significant uses.

    FRP is a nonmagnetic material which is nearly transparent toradiated electromagnetic energy such as radar. Additionally, studieshave shown that the environmental impacts, including energy costsand pollutants, are significantly reduced for FRP manufacturingover steel.

    Alltec Corporation FRP masts are specially designed to supplymore strength per unit of weight than most metals; they areinherently resistant to corrosion and galvanic effects. FRP mastsdo not rust and are formulated to provide long-term resistance toall environmental chemicals and temperature extremes, includingsaltwater ocean spray. Wind causes fatigue loads, where FRP hasproven to far outperform that of standard steel masts. Increasedservice life and decreased maintenance costs are key features inchoosing FRP masts.

    The ASC-6X Lightning Strike Counter is designedto monitor occurrences of lightning strikes tostructures and outdoor equipment. At any moment,there are almost two thousand thunderstorms inprogress all over the world.
